Hi all
My aunt is clearing a house for an elderly relative. She has been told the attached furniture is "worthless" and she has listed it in Freecycle. There has been a lot of interest in some of the pieces and my worry is that she could get something in eBay or the like. Would you be kind enough to have a quick gander and see if giving it away is the right thing to do. Thanks

No, it's highly desirable and goes for a lot of money. Don't give it away.

gsaoej · 20/01/2022 21:19

Fucking hell!
Get that off freecycle
It has value

I'd take it to an auction house pronto (with the owners permission)

Scrunchcake · 20/01/2022 21:20

Who told her it is worthless? Sure she'd be able to sell it.

gsaoej · 20/01/2022 21:20

Just go on eBay and search “vintage g plan” or similar. It’s definitely got value.

Mundra · 20/01/2022 21:21

The middle item on first set of pictures (the credenza/buffet/sideboard) and the third in your second set (the coffee table) would probably go for a decent amount.
The other items, I think, are far less likely to sell. You could list them, but they may hang around for months/years. Perhaps the bookcase (middle photo) would sell a little quicker.

BloomingInformation · 20/01/2022 21:21

That’s beautiful.

goteam · 20/01/2022 21:22

I paid £300 for a sideboard similar to that one, £150 for a similar coffee table and the dining set will be worth around £400

SpinningCat2 · 20/01/2022 21:22

Or not .......

The items in both first photos, you've v little chance of selling via eBay

My mother tried to sell her mid-Century Stag wardrobes (very similar to G plan). No one bought them, she offered them to the BHF charity furniture shop and they refused them. Tried to give them away on FB. They ended up in the tip.

Rotherweird · 20/01/2022 21:23

I am no expert, but I wouldn't say that is worth loads of money. It looks to me like more recent G-plan (late 70s onward). I love mid-century furniture but I wouldn't be interested in that. So don't get your aunt's hopes up too much! It could be a lot of hassle to sell it for not much £££.

SpinningCat2 · 20/01/2022 21:24

Please ignore my last post !!;

Beautiful!! We have a lot of mid century in our house and honestly they go for a lot of money!! Certain shops in north London would sell GPlan sideboard for £2k...!! We got a 7ft 60s sideboard for £220 7 years ago and thought it was a 'steal'.

Defo don't let her be ripped off Smile

ASimpleLobsterHat · 20/01/2022 21:26

The right kind of G plan is definitely desirable at the moment. I’ve got a couple of pieces in our living room that I paid £350 for in total.

SpinningCat2 · 20/01/2022 21:27

Thank you for all the posts , really helpful.
She didn't really want the "bother" of eBay etc but if it's 100's of £ then that would be different.

Definitely has value. I would advise emptying the cabinets and displaying against a neutral background/styling them a bit for photos to give them a more mid century modern look as I think this will increase interest —and show people with no imagination what they’d look like in their home— . They look like beautiful pieces of furniture.

the sidebioard second photo at top is worth most the glass unit probably the least but send these photos to your local auction house they can advise from a few photos they might even collect particularily if you let them look around rest of the house

SpinningCat2 · 20/01/2022 21:28

Not sure if it's stag actually , I will see if can get back to the property and check.

The butterfly dining chairs are worth at least a hundred pounds each. That’s before you even consider the rest of the furniture.

Georgeskitchen · 20/01/2022 21:35

My mums house is just being cleared Has some 1950s G plan furniture. We were told by a man that came to look at it that it's very big in Japan. ( good condition) have a look on ebay for price comparisons and DONT give it away free!!
