What does your Christ Eve look like?

I've spent the day making cheesecakes, salads and laughing with my teenagers in the kitchen. Cranked up the music and danced. By mid afternoon I was praying for a storm as it was so hot. This evening we went for a swim after dinner, in fact I've been in 3 times. I've had a few glasses of wine and feeling really festive now.

I’m sat at the window waiting on DD, SIL & DGC to arrive, I’ve not seen them since Feb 2020. I’m so bloody excited!

Wickywoo1984 · 24/12/2021 15:22

Had a lie in, tidied up, parents came over for brunch. Prepped roasties, ham and stuffing, then cuddled on sofa with dc to watch the Santa clause. Heading out in an hour for an Indian meal. We'll come back, light the fire, pour a wine and watch Elf. Managed to get all wrapping done last week when dc out so nothing else to do :-)
Enjoy everyone. My favourite day :-)

Our normal Christmas Eve would involve me preparing the veg for Christmas Day whilst DH visits his relatives, then carol service at 6 pm and seeing friends in the evening .

Not doing any of that this year ! Our friends have Covid in the house, and we've decided not to go to the church service which is normally packed . Will watch some carols on TV instead. Eating in a restaurant tomorrow (hopefully) so no veg to prepare !

There's just DH and I here today, I went to visit my mum this morning (she lives in a care home) and we are just relaxing now, although will have to brave the rain to take dog out again . Buffet tea, nice and easy Smile

I've also counted the feral pigeons on the rooftop opposite. There are 73 and probably room for about half that again.

Paleodiet · 24/12/2021 15:30

Made a quick visit to shops then to see DD & her bf for last minute bits. Home for lunch and have hoovered the entire house. Now lying on sofa listening to Carols from Kings. Will prepare the vegetables in the morning (no children in the house). There will be five of us tomorrow - plenty of hands to help which is great, as the dishwasher is kaput.

Newrunner29 · 24/12/2021 15:34

Just finished our annual Christmas eve fondue 🫕🍫

lissie123 · 24/12/2021 15:40

Been to the supermarket. Car broken down in car park AA to rescue. Went to see a friend who is having some issues.Prepped a Jamie Oliver veggie crown whilst DH prepared Jamie Oliver gravy. Spoke to my parents. Opened a bottle of champagne cos life is too short. Watched Frozen in front of fire with DH and Dd and now having a cuppa. DH distributing last of Christmas cards to friends now.

LadyNell · 24/12/2021 15:49

Would have been working tiday and over Xmas but son tested positive this morning so I'm now off until pcr result comes in. Christmas ruined as was spending with my parents but can't now as dad's vulnerable. Hey ho

LemonMuffins · 24/12/2021 15:51

DH is asleep on the sofa. I'm watching Back to the Future. Should be wrapping...

Lipsandlashes · 24/12/2021 15:54

Last minute food shop at 7am then coffee in Costa with DDs (is a tradition). DH was working at home until noon, so I went to my parents to pick up their presents to bring back to ours (they are coming to us tomorrow but my mum always buys piles of presents so I thought I’d bring them over today). Then we played board games and ate Pringles and Quality Street for an couple of hours. Now we’re watching Christmas films before an easy dinner of pizza and snacks. We’ll go to early Mass tomorrow morning rather than this evening. I’m also contemplating prepping some veg this evening but I’ll see how I feel.

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 24/12/2021 16:05

I'm still cleaning and running myself ragged as I only had yesterday and today to be at home and get jobs done.

Ham is in the oven and I need to think about beginning preparations for our dinner tonight for 8 people.

My husband came home at 2pm and is sat guzzling beers and watching television.

I'm resenting the lack of effort and support really to make everyone else's Christmas 'merry'.

I'm having a quick cuppa before I remake the beds.

Crunchymum · 24/12/2021 16:18

Very relaxed for us as we are out for dinner tomorrow so I don't have all the usual prep to do. In-laws popped in for brunch before heading off for a few days (we cooked eggs, bacon and sausages and let everyone construct their own "brunch rolls")

Kids are bathed, in Xmas PJ's and we'll go for a walk around the block after dinner (I'll throw wellies and coats on and we'll go Santa hunting!!). Then it's Home Alone and popcorn!!!

Am just roasting my M&S turkey crown as I want turkey for sandwiches. We'll have some of the turkey for dinner tonight with dips, salad, pickles, stuffing, nice bread and red wine (I have coleslaw and potato salad as well as a nice leafy salad).

Kids will be a nightmare to get to sleep but I'm all wrapped and organised and can sort out stockings and gifts as soon as I am sure the coast is clear.

It's been a lovely, calm, relaxed day... with lots of food Grin

SarahJessicaParker1 · 24/12/2021 16:19

We have a Christmas Eve birthday in our house. Strictly no Christmas stuff till bedtime here! I have made some soda bread and cooked the ham for tomorrow though

plinkplinkfizzer · 24/12/2021 16:33

Visited my Father , opened wrapping of Turkey, prepared for the oven , back in the fridge in a roasting tray . Prepare the veg while watching Carols From Kings , with a Sherry . Sit back wait for Santa . Kids no longer small . Heaven .

SilenceOfThePrams · 24/12/2021 16:34

Morning spent prepping for tomorrow and hoovering.

Nice lunch (we always have fish on Christmas Eve).

Children’s church service this afternoon (online sadly but still nice).

About to go for a wholesome walk in the rain to look at the town’s Advent Windows.

And then home and tea and apparently it’s not fair that I always choose the muppet Christmas Carol, so tonight we are watching the Lego movie instead. Joy.

Early night for children (their request). So probably bath, Christmas chocolates and the Muppets for me later on

ifonly4 · 24/12/2021 17:06

Quick tidy and hoover downstairs, washing machine in. Walked around to BILs for a couple of hours, then walked back via Tesco to pick up forgotten items. Afternoon spent playing games with DH, older DD didn't want to join in. DD cooking a feta/beetroot/squash/spinach pie sometime this evening!!! I'll probably have a glass of wine and nibbles while waiting, and no doubt it'll be served later than planned, so another glassGrin. Inbetween everything playing xmas music and tracking Santa on Norad. I planned a quiet afternoon/evening at home as I'm working early Boxing Day and wanted sometime for just us.

CurryLover55 · 24/12/2021 17:09

ifonly4 that pie sounds lovely

LeQuern · 24/12/2021 17:12

Up at 6am to finish the food shop.
Travel to parents with food.
Prep the food.
Cook Christmas Eve dinner.
Eat dinner.
Clear up dinner whilst they watch the Soaps.
Go to bed around 9pm through boredom.
Repeat again tomorrow.

Is it the 27th yet?

CrimbleCrumble1 · 24/12/2021 17:13

I did a buffer lunch for my DM and I’ve just ordered a curry for dinner. Then Christmas TV and a glass of champagne

CrimbleCrumble1 · 24/12/2021 17:13

Buffet

hollyivysaurus · 24/12/2021 17:18

Pretty nice and surprisingly calm overall day here! 5yo and 3yo to entertain, they were super excited for their Christmas Eve box this morning and we’ve done Christmas crafts, tracked Santa online, been tor a long walk to see all the Christmas lights, played games and looking forward to having a party food dinner and watching a film with DH when they’re eventually in bed!

FourTeaFallOut · 24/12/2021 17:19

We've been bowling and then hit the arcades, ds organised a festive theme dungeons and dragons game when we got back, and then I made a pavlova. I still have to tidy the place up a bit, watch an episode of Hawkeye with the kids and then sneak all the presents out of the loft, two presents still to wrap. I don't think I'll have time for a bath between dinner and getting the little one to curb his excitement long enough to sleep. DH is out of action after his covid jab the other day and has developed an armpit boob that the GP isn't too worried about.

ifonly4 · 24/12/2021 17:20

CurryLover55 hope so, she hasn't cooked it for us before, only uni friends. I'm sure the wine will certainly help either way!

icecreamgirl94 I do sympathcise, I'm working Boxing Day and already know we're understaffed. No one on main tills and only me for self serve until 3pm. There are a few others in specialist areas and they're not obliged to help unless they're quiet. They'll be lots of moaning as s/s will be my priority and I suspect it'll be the least helpful manager in.

Gertie75 · 24/12/2021 17:22

I've walked the dogs and played a couple of board gashed games with dd's, they're 6 and 8 and bursting with excitement.

We're watching the Jungle Cruise film to hopefully calm them down a bit.

I'm making the most of it because it might be the last year the eldest believes.

iklboodolphrednosedpaindear · 24/12/2021 17:25

Burgers ordered in
Arthur Christmas with DS. He's 16 now but still wants to watch it
Love Actually - just me & DH

A few festive drinks, some nibbles if we're peckish later. Fill DS's stockings with his silly presents.
