Superking beds

Spent another night with DS squished in the middle, sweating to death and hanging off the edge of our double dreaming of having more space.

I really want a superking and am tempted to go online and order one right this second now Grin

But will it really make a difference? I have young 2 DC, both clingy little things (not ruled out number 3 either) and a tall DH.
Are they worth the money and hassle of not being able to find sheets and bedding easily?

It will fit in my room, just, if I sacrifice my bedside tables Blush

It’s just the two of us and ours is SK. If I was by myself I’d still buy a SK.

there’s a double in our spare room and it looks so titchy by comparison.

FinallyHere · 22/12/2021 09:14

Don't bother getting a super king duvet

We now have a double duvet each. Plenty of space when ahem you want to snuggle up together. Perfect freedom to sleep tucked in without anyone moving.

Leonberger · 22/12/2021 09:14

I’m sold Grin

Our DC are still babies so I predict many years of bed sharing yet Blush

We have one and it's wonderful! We co-sleep with our 3 year old and it means we all get a good night sleep.

GrendelsGrandma · 22/12/2021 09:15

DC rarely get in with us but we have a super king that makes me happy every time I get into it.

The only problem is that it spoils you for double beds when you stay away from home!

sparklyblue81 · 22/12/2021 09:18

We have one & it’s awesome- plenty of room for us and which small person needs to pop in for a cuddle 🥰 Asda home do bedding so it isn’t a problem x

frazzledasarock · 22/12/2021 09:19

We got a super king bed. I chose a low ottoman style one.

As it’s low it looks deceptively small and doesn’t fill the room.

But it’s the most comfy roomy bed ever. With occasional toddlers trespassing and all the cats piling in it’s enormous and roomy and I love the space.

And I have had no problems finding bed linen for ours. All the usual places that sell bedding sell them in superking size too.

I would not go back to a smaller bed. Invest in a super comfy mattress as well.

Our only drawback is I keep finding my teenagers lying in my bed. They claim they got tired on the way downstairs/upstairs. 😒

Trixiefirecracker · 22/12/2021 09:20

Asda do great, very reasonably priced bedding! Super King has been our saviour. We actually use two duvets instead of one big one because one of us is a hogger.

Lux523 · 22/12/2021 09:20

I have had a Superking bed for the last 20 years, I would try my very best not to go back to a smaller bed.

For context, I have 3 children and when I was married, all 5 of us could comfortably fit in the bed. My 3 daughters and 2 nieces regularly will sleep together in our bed AND I can still get in.

For what's it's worth, we've just bought a brand new Superking, it's a Tempur and my god, the best nights sleep I've ever had. My previous bed was a Simba and this is even better than that. I'd rather sink money in a bed that I'm sleeping in every night, than in a holiday.

Do it!!!!!! You won't look back.

Leonberger · 22/12/2021 09:22

I’ve seen a reasonably cheap frame online but I was going to spend ££ on the mattress and duvet etc.
I can’t have a divan as the cat used the last one as a scratching post Angry

Hopefully that would be comfy enough!?

Had one for 20 years now - would not buy a house that couldn’t accommodate one. Enough room for a poorly child and now the dog joins us.

Weloveoptimus · 22/12/2021 09:25

You won't regret it! They're amazeballs.

VictoryLap · 22/12/2021 09:48

When we were looking for our last house we turned down a perfectly nice and affordable house for one that was a bit out of our budget for the sole reason that we wouldn't have got our bed in! Everything else about the house was almost perfect 😆
SallyWD · 22/12/2021 09:52

Definitely worth it! We had a king size bed before and I felt that was too small. We now have a super king size bed that has 2 mattresses that zip up in the middle. Perfect! I definitely have my side and I'm not so bothered by DH who thrashes around in his sleep. I could never go back to a smaller bed. There's space for both our children too (not that they ever sleep with us).

violetbunny · 22/12/2021 09:57

Just be careful the bed frame is still sturdy if you're going cheap, especially with 2 or more people sleeping in it. We made the mistake of skimping on our last bed frame and it literally started coming apart after a few years. A sturdier design probably would have been ok.

PotatoGoblins · 22/12/2021 09:57

100% do it.
Only issue I have is changing the sheets by myself because I am basically a garden gnome Blush

Ginius · 22/12/2021 09:58

Do it!! We regularly have bedtime visitors and the extra space is a godsend.

We had to cancel our camping trips due to covid so "camped" in our bed instead. 4 of us slept reasonably comfortably!

We also sacrificed beside tables but recently found some very slim ones on Amazon that fit. Just. I mean they're not beautiful but fit my morning cup of tea so that's all I need!

itsutterlyshit · 22/12/2021 10:00

The only problem with a superking bed is if you stay somewhere with a smaller bed you feel claustrophobic!

Our old house had an awkward shaped master bedroom that only just fit our bed in with about a four to spare on either side, at no point was a smaller bed considered.

Bedding is readily available and not crazy expensive either.

I wouldn't be without our bed and it's only me and DH

Shmithecat2 · 22/12/2021 10:04

Do it. Both DH and I are over 6ft, and 6yo ds is more often than not in with us. I'll never go back to a smaller bed.

Totalwasteofpaper · 22/12/2021 10:04

I cannot tell you how much you will never ever regret it and it will change your life for the better.
I sleep SO much better so does DH

We get bedding sets fairly cheaply and easily like £40-60

I would recommend buying a decent frame - you need a strong base.
We got one from JL in the sale for about 400 it's very solid.
Also bought an AMAZING mattress from dreams clearance section was £3k we bought it for £400!!!

U8976532 · 22/12/2021 10:04

Our super king bed is probably the most life changing purchase I've ever made apart from the house itself! Even going from a king to a super king, you'll be amazed the difference that 30cm makes, it doesn't sound like a lot but it makes a world of difference.

U8976532 · 22/12/2021 10:05

(Changing the sheets is a fucker though, but still worth it- we got our bedding from soak and sleep).

Winterlove · 22/12/2021 10:08

I have one and would never get a smaller bed. Me, DP and the medium sized dog all sleep in it comfortably. You can buy superking bedding in most places and reasonably priced.

ThreeB · 22/12/2021 10:12

Do it! I adore our super king bed, bags of space for me, DH and 2 rather large dogs. Ours is the princess bed of my childhood dreams and it makes me smile every time I see it.
Re bedside tables, I got two lovely slim bathroom storage cabinets (I think they were from Dunelm) and they fit the space perfectly. 4 little drawers for odds and ends and enough space on top for a lamp and a cuppa.

There will be lots of SK bedding in the Jan sales. I'm after some more 600tc ones - they are a game changer!

SunsetSmartmeter · 22/12/2021 22:10

Absolutely without question. I will never downsize from a superking unless there is no other option. There's only me in mine much of the time & I love being able to spread out! For me it's like dishwashers & tampons - some things you try & there's never any going back!
