Superking beds

Leonberger · 22/12/2021 08:50

Spent another night with DS squished in the middle, sweating to death and hanging off the edge of our double dreaming of having more space.

I really want a superking and am tempted to go online and order one right this second now Grin

But will it really make a difference? I have young 2 DC, both clingy little things (not ruled out number 3 either) and a tall DH.
Are they worth the money and hassle of not being able to find sheets and bedding easily?

It will fit in my room, just, if I sacrifice my bedside tables Blush

We went with a superking zip and link because it would have been difficult to get a superking mattress up the stairs and a 180 turn to get it into our bedroom. We realised this when we moved in with our king sized bed so did the zip and link. The mattresses as separate 3fts are bloody heavy.

We have a mattress topper and no you cannot feel the zip, it is not on the top but tucked down the side slightly. The children are 18 and 15 and we can fit all 4 of us in it, last time was the morning Ds1 was moving to uni so we had a last big family cuddle.

Had ours about 9 years. Still super comfy. No issues getting bedding, ever. All major places do it, M&S, Next, Dunelm, Amazon etc.

How on earth do you manage without a bedside table?? Mine's got chargers, iPad, book, glass of water, cup of tea in the morning etc etc. Where do all these things go?

Davros · 22/12/2021 22:21

We have super king with single mattresses and therefore single bedding. Super king bedspread over the top.
I never let my kids come into our bed though, the space is for us and the cat only

Any other size if bed should be banned.

And top tip - 2x single duvets are far easier to change and you can choose different togs and you can curl yourself up in it without having a fight. Complete marriage saver

Tayegete · 22/12/2021 22:25

It’s life changing. The only problem is that it makes it really difficult to adjust when you stay somewhere with a smaller bed. We have an Emma mattress which is super comfy.

PartyPrawnRingGames · 22/12/2021 22:27

Love my superking it's true that kids and dogs do still squish up against you and lie horizontally but it still gives you that extra room to wiggle away. For a bedside table you could set up some kind of shelf or one of those things that hangs down the side of the bed with pockets depend on what space you have.

Newbabynewhouse · 22/12/2021 22:27

I am soooo desperate for a superking bed😓 we recently moved from a small 1 bed flat to a 2 bedroom house and all along id dreamed of having the space for a superking or even at least a king size... but we have fitted wardrobes and the soace between wont allow any bigger than a double! So im still dreaming! We even sleep in seperate rooms at the moment because im jusy too uncomfortable...its so bad really!.... id say yes get one! 100% so good for your health having space to sleep well!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 22/12/2021 22:30

I LOVE our super king. We have 2 single duvets as I hate sharing with dh who rolls over and leaves me with nothing! Makes it easy to get bedding but these days everywhere has super king bedding.

Sheets in Asda. All Sorts of wonderful sheets and bedding in Asda for super king for under £30. I'm in a pink and grey spotted brushed cotton duvet cover with pink teddy bear fitted sheet and pillows.
newtonsthirdlaw · 22/12/2021 22:40

Do it. You won't regret it. I've got a SK bed and a ginormous mattress topper I got custom cut. Don't underestimate the weight of a SK mattress when you are trying to get it up the stairs though. And as for the mattress topper, well that was an experience in itself. It takes up most of the room in my room though but I don't give a damn. And I have bedside shelves, not tables.

Changing the bedding is a PITA though. Unless you have arms like popeye or superhuman strength a winter weight duvet is hard work. The burrito method (youtube it) makes things easier.
Another thing I have found is that even though I have a 9kg washing machine, occasionally the washing machine doesn't spin with the bedding in it (600tc ex hotel cotton stuff) and I need to rebalance the machine before it will. If I am tumble drying it I have to split the load in 2 but that's mainly because I have a crap dryer.

Garman · 22/12/2021 22:46

The bedding is easily available? It costs a bit more but not a lot. Biggest cost for us is that the duvet doesn't fit in our washing machine so have to take it to a big laundry thing, doesn't need it often though obviously, just with baby projectile pukes etc.

RandomUsernameHere · 22/12/2021 22:46

Do it, I love mine. I'm spending the second night in a row in a standard double at the ILs' house and absolutely hating it, I don't see how two people can possibly be comfortable in one, it's tiny! You won't regret upgrading!

Chronicallymothering · 22/12/2021 22:52

You won’t regret it. We upsized when it became apparent the 7 year old visitor in the night was not going to stay in his own bed.

Burnamer · 22/12/2021 22:53

@Leonberger

Our dogs are 80kgs each- no chance of them being allowed in Grin

I’m about 3 seconds away from pressing buy it now thanks to you all Grin

I was just about to ask what breed of dog you have but then noticed your user name 😍 How many do you have? Are they worth it? Any chance of a picture? We have rescue mastiffs and they are adorable but hard work. I can’t imagine how the jump up in weight / power changes things.
LuaDipa · 23/12/2021 11:07

Do it. Bedding is not an issue, in fact it is often available when other sizes have sold out.

Leonberger · 23/12/2021 11:39

@Burnamer we have two and they are definitely worth it! Hard work but probably not much different energy wise to a mastiff! They have really chilled out personalities.
I can’t say I’ve noticed any difference in the size of them compared to having a smaller dog other than we needed a bigger car and things cost more. I can easily control them although they do wear headcollars just incase a squirrel pops out. They don’t pull on leads thankfully or I would be gone! Females are a fair bit smaller than the males.
They are impossible to lift though and have to do 3 point turns out of certain rooms Grin

This is the view I see most, when they aren’t asleep upright they are asleep upside down instead…
