If you play yellow car. What are your rules.

I feel like people in our family are just making up rules now Grin and it gets harder to actually get a point.
The line between yellow and yellow /orange blurs depending on who sees it. Also now we have points taking away.
I have checked the offical rules ( I know I use that term loosely ) Smile and you are supposed to be able to hit someone. But I feel that could easily spin out of control Grin
What are yours?

There's so many yellow cars on the road now so we play green car or yellow mini. But the car has to be moving for it to qualify

Wardrobes123 · 19/12/2021 16:35

Oh we’re doing it wrong - we play green car with added yellow car points.

It’s got so bad that the DCs take pictures of green cars to one up me while on the way to school. Even though I’ve said it doesn’t count. Never gets violent though…

mangomama91 · 19/12/2021 16:37

We used to punch for minis too but there's so many of them around now so we don't, but one day a car transporter full of minis drove past. That was fun 😜😂😂

daisyjgrey · 19/12/2021 17:07

@RichardMarxisinnocent

I have had many a dead leg thanks to a passing mini.

Nillynally · 19/12/2021 17:09

As children we played Eddie stobart and then we learned of yellow car and although I'm not sure of the rules, there was definite leg punching

RandomDent · 19/12/2021 17:11

We also play the Shappey rules.
You are always playing yellow car.
No hitting.
Just say “yellow car”.

Those limey shades don’t count. Gold sometimes does.
Trucks, JCBs etc all count.

Vapeyvapevape · 19/12/2021 17:12

@Nillynally we used to look out for Eddies and Norbert Dentresangle .

Kite22 · 19/12/2021 17:14

Yes, punching someone when you see a mini gets interesting when you pass the mini dealership near us Grin

Noworneverever · 19/12/2021 17:14

We play for points not punches, it wouldn't be fair a child and two adults to add violence into the mix even if just light taps.
Any size vehicle but it must be moving. Even if driver is in the cab and stationary, that won't count.
Vehicle must be over 50 percent yellow.
When DH spotted a yellow low flying plane he won so many points it ended the game.

triceratopsatemyhat · 19/12/2021 17:16

Yellow cars only. Not vans. Not lorry's. Not orange. Not gold.

Must be moving, stationary does not count.

crj123 · 19/12/2021 17:21

Shappey rules here too. No question.

But AA vehicles always cause a row - adjudication??

AquaTofana · 19/12/2021 17:23

Anything goes with us but points not punches! Cars are 3, vans 2 and lorries 1. There’s another rule for yellow buses and taxis etc but I can’t remember how many points they are! 😂 And if in a town where yellow buses and taxis are the norm (my daughter’s university town!), they aren’t counted for obvious reasons! The driver also isn’t allowed to count a yellow vehicle spotted in the rear view or wing mirror.

The trouble is trying to not yell, “Yellow car!” when in the car with anybody other than my (grown up) kids…😂

greensnail · 19/12/2021 17:23

We learnt it in Australia so it's called spotto. Only cars count, no other vehicles. If it's not yellow or not a car you lose all your points. Shout snotto for green cars (because it's not a yellow car) but that's just for fun - no points allocated.
There's a spotty yellow car near us we've seen a few times so extra points for spotting that.

mugoftea456 · 19/12/2021 17:25

Cars only.
Has to be 'proper yellow'
If you get it wrong and punch someone, you get a punch back from the person you punched.

MoreHairyThanScary · 19/12/2021 17:27

Have teens we banned it as it was getting too violent ( and distracting for the driver).

We now play the foreign numberplate game ( have to recognise the letters and identify the country) ( can not be a French car in France etc tho')

Bunnyfuller · 19/12/2021 17:28

Only yellow car. Not van truck etc.

DH displays some worrying ideas of yellow.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 19/12/2021 17:37

Oh we have not done a it must be moving rule.

OP posts:
catwomandoo · 19/12/2021 17:43

We keep it simple.

Yellow car = 1 punch per person
If disputed car turns out not to be yellow (consensus in car has to be achieved) then the false shouter gets a punch from everyone else in the car

My DH did (jokingly) try to suggest a green cat version where you spit at the other person but it didn't catch on Grin

Pictures of yellow cars are fair game.

triceratopsatemyhat · 19/12/2021 17:45

We play for sweets. I'm starting to think I've been conned by my kids!

catwomandoo · 19/12/2021 17:47

My DS when much smaller proffered:

"Do you think that people who drive yellow cars have a disproportionate view of how violent the world is? I mean they must see car loads of people assaulting each other all the time"

A good point I think

FreezerBird · 19/12/2021 17:51

@iamaLeafontheWind

We’re not playing yellow car.
You are always playing Yellow Car.

Arthur Shappey rules.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 19/12/2021 18:22

@catwomandoo never thought of that. That’s funny !

I thought of this thread earlier when my DC started playing it in the car on the way to visit my mum ..... my DC are late teens/early 20s!!

Clearly you never grow out of playing Yellow Car

Nillynally · 19/12/2021 20:32

@Vapeyvapevape yes! I forgot about Norbertts!!

minou123 · 19/12/2021 20:42

Grin

In my family, it has to be a punch on the leg. The harder the better.
Every long car journey, me, my dsis and dbro unable to exit the car, because of dead legs.
