If you play yellow car. What are your rules.

I feel like people in our family are just making up rules now Grin and it gets harder to actually get a point.
The line between yellow and yellow /orange blurs depending on who sees it. Also now we have points taking away.
I have checked the offical rules ( I know I use that term loosely ) Smile and you are supposed to be able to hit someone. But I feel that could easily spin out of control Grin
What are yours?

We have to shout ‘Yellow Car Padlock’ no hitting involved and it’s just me and dd in the car ( we are both adults Blush )

Thunderpunt · 19/12/2021 13:43

What's everyone's thoughts on AA vehicles? Yellow or Orange?
Same for JCB ?

gothicsprout · 19/12/2021 13:45

But is the lemon also in play?

TinselTroels · 19/12/2021 13:46

We played it as Punch buggy Yellow. Thank god my boys are grown, I don't have to listen to that in the back seat.

ifherbumwereabungalow · 19/12/2021 13:51

My lemon is definitely in play.

Legoisthebest · 19/12/2021 13:54

How many points for this.....

Branleuse · 19/12/2021 13:56

Ambulances dont count, except for sometimes. Im trying to implement the rule that you dont thump the driver.

Fleemeister · 19/12/2021 14:03

Lemon retrieved and resited. On with round 2.

PhoboPhobia · 19/12/2021 14:03

Arthur Shapey’s is the only way to play!

daisyjgrey · 19/12/2021 14:15

@Legoisthebest

I knew the game as Punch Buggy (from The Simpsons) where you get to punch if you see a VW Beetle car (aka 'bug'). Then my niece taught me Yellow Car and all I could think is what happens when you see a yellow VW Beetle....Xmas Grin

We used to play this, then we had to call a truce after we both did it at the same time, clashed watches and cracked a watch face 😬

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 19/12/2021 14:56

Some of these ideas are amazing. I like the concept that it cannot be darker than w number plate. Sometimes my sons definition of yellow is a bit of a stretch Grin

We played "yellow car BANANA!" for ages. Then it got too complicated with endless spin offs and drove me nuts so I banned it.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 19/12/2021 15:30

My husband is currently really unhappy. We have been driving today. I’m currently on 8 and he is on 4 Grin

Anything goes in our family, but we play 'yellow car slap', so anything yellow means you can slap a sibling. What's not to like ? Wink

RichardMarxisinnocent · 19/12/2021 15:44

I got very confused reading this thread as have never heard of the yellow car game, and was thinking it might a Mornington Crescent type game as different sets of rules were mentioned. I've googled and found some rules, but still unsure whether it's a pretend game or it's genuine and adults and children really are punching, pinching and slapping each other when they see a yellow car. If it is real, presumably the punches etc aren't proper hard punches? Someone please enlighten me?

IloveJudgeJudy · 19/12/2021 15:44

Yellow car, one hit but yellow mini 5 hits. We're hardcore

Echobelly · 19/12/2021 15:47

I'm the only family member that doesn't play, but the rules seem to be it has to be a car (not van or lorry) and entirely yellow. If you call 'YC' but it's not (ie, just looked yellow in a certain light) then you can't call the next one. DS (10) was keen to hit the person next to him, usually older sibling, when he spotted a yellow car, but DH changed that to 'gently stroke the person next to you'.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 19/12/2021 15:49

@RichardMarxisinnocent it is real sadly Grin we don’t do hitting. We do one point for seeing a yellow car. Vans etc don’t count and u loose a point if you say yellow and it turns out not to be. It’s just for fun in the car. Used to do it when my son was little. But he started it up again as he does it with his girlfriend and now my husband an I do it.

First rule is 'Your always playing yellow car'. We did introduce citrus car 1 pt for yellow 2pt orange and 3pt lime green with an extra point if its a super car (porche, ferrari etc) vans count as long as majority of required colour. Normally though we just play yellow car.

Thank you! When I was a child in the 70s and early 80s we did play car spotting games, but none based on just yellow cars and none involved hitting. This thread is an eye opener!

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 19/12/2021 16:04

Vans don't count unless you're the King (or is it Prince) of Lichtenstein. Yellow NYC taxis don't count either.

Thesearmsofmine · 19/12/2021 16:07

It’s called cheese on wheels here and just involves shouting it out first. No hitting because w it u 3 ds sat in the back there would be carnage and crying.

Thesearmsofmine · 19/12/2021 16:07

with 3 ds

ThesecondLEM · 19/12/2021 16:25

We don't play now but when we did the rules became really complex.

Yellow are 1 point, motorbike 10, yellow lorry 100 but Morrison lorries weren't allowed. Yellow bike 2000 the same for a yellow bus.

It was the bane of my life along with I-spy!

MysteriousMonkey · 19/12/2021 16:32

We play a version we call mini doof, one punch for a mini, one for a yellow car and ten for a yellow mini. It causes so many arguments. It gets banned constantly and then starts again... I may or may not be responsible Grin
