How long does a bacon sandwich keep you going for?

I had a glorious bacon sandwich at about 11am - back at home in Ireland for Christmas, and the bread and the bacon is WRONG where I live ordinarily so can't just have one whenever I like. How I savoured my sandwich.

Still not hungry. 4 rashers of bacon and 2 slices of bread (standard white pan) which is probably vital information.

I've just looked at all the delicious stuff in the fridge and cupboards, but cannot do it justice yet.

How long does a bacon sandwich stave off hunger for you?

My friend sent me a link to this thread.
This was my reply, before even reading it Xmas Grin

@ISpyCobraKai Grin

Is it even possible for too much salt to be a thing? I love salt. I get massive cravings.

My old cardiologist told me to eat more crisps cos my blood pressure drops crazy low. I think he'd approve of the bacon.

Did you actually eat all that? Four slices of bacon nd two slices of bread? That’s a shit lot. No wonder you’re not hungry.

No. No it's not 🤣

My ds is an electric swimmer.

Bacon and egg muffins seem to be the thing that keep him going!

Unfortunately not for long though as some days he swims for 4 hours and does an hour gym work 🤣

But certainly it's a food that lasts him longer until he's starving again WinkGrin

itsgettingwierd · 18/12/2021 17:41

Elite!!! Electric would be very dangerous 🤦🏼‍♀️

jupitermars1345 · 18/12/2021 17:42

It really is.

How do you make one then ?

UpCloseAndPersonalWithGlenda · 18/12/2021 17:46

I would have two rashers of bacon and one slice of thin bread (only ever white with bacon).

NMC2022 · 18/12/2021 17:49

1 slice of bread is not a sandwich
Standard sandwich is 2 slices of bread surely Confused

jupitermars1345 · 18/12/2021 17:49

:O

jupitermars1345 · 18/12/2021 17:50

That sounds miserable sorry 🤣

BarbaraofSeville · 18/12/2021 17:50

My appetite is really weird as in sometimes I can eat something like that and go for hours and then other times have the same thing and be hungry an hour later, so I really can't say.

But I don't think that sandwich is particularly massive for a meal. It's about 5-600 calories tops, which is perfectly normal for one meal, or on the light side if you only eat twice a day.

But what i wanted to say was that I had a bacon sandwich in Sainsbury's cafe the other day and the bread was particularly nice. It was only some sort of white sliced, but it just seemed better than normal so I need to go and study the white sliced bread that they sell, to see if I can see what it could have been.

BarbaraofSeville · 18/12/2021 17:52

At the risk of starting another argument, what do people put on their bacon sandwiches? For me it has to be brown sauce. I know a lot of people have ketchup, which is just wrong to me.

Strokethefurrywall · 18/12/2021 17:53

Courtesy of this thread I’m now making sausages which I’m going to squeeze between a lovely big chunk of French bread with butter and ketchup…. 😋

waterlego · 18/12/2021 17:53

Probably depends on what type of bread and then how active I am after said sandwich. I had a bacon bagel at about midday today and then began to feel hungry about half five. Got a burger and chips arriving shortly. Grin

jupitermars1345 · 18/12/2021 17:54

White bread. Four rashers. Three if adding a fried egg.
Butter and brown sauce

BiddyPop · 18/12/2021 17:55

Well, also Ireland, had 2 Superquinn sausages in white bread toast with grainy mustard yesterday for breakfast and that kept me going until about 3 easily.

waterlego · 18/12/2021 17:55

@BarbaraofSeville, yes brown sauce is the way to go IMO, if the sandwich is made with ordinary bread.

I had mine on a sesame seed bagel today, and I like that with some spinach leaves, mayo and sweet chilli sauce. Delicious.

That sounds like a punishment - a bacon sandwich should be enjoyed!

I would use 2-3 rashers of smoked back bacon, butter and brown sauce on Warburtons ‘toastie’ bread.

I’ve just put that into the Nutracheck app (using 3 rashers) and it’s 485 calories. I wouldn’t eat again until dinner time so, in the grand scheme of things, it’s really not a lot of food.

Pangolin44 · 18/12/2021 18:10

I am assuming that you live in the US if the bread and bacon are wrong for a bacon sandwich.

Four rashers of bacon is standard or you're doing it wrong. Also white bread is obligatory. A bacon sandwich on brown bread is the work of a diseased mind.

Butter on one half, the other half needs soaking in the pan fat.

If I had it for breakfast it would sate me happily until lunch. So 4/5 hours.

dubyalass · 18/12/2021 18:23

It would keep me going to mid morning, maybe a bit longer if I added a fried egg. And usually three rashers, or five if it's streaky. Don't mind what type of bread.

Pret used to do a bacon and warm egg mayo breakfast baguette which was among the tastiest things I've ever eaten. Loads of black pepper.

dubyalass · 18/12/2021 18:24

My mind is probably a bit diseased 😁

This reminds me of the day of my Mum’s funeral. To my shame, I was hungover (I hadn’t slept well in days and thought two large brandies the night before might help). Asked my brother to make me a bacon sandwich as I dried my hair and he fried one rasher and plonked it on one slice of bent over unbuttered bread.
NMC2022 · 18/12/2021 19:42

I mean if I'm having a bacon sandwich it's such a rare event I'm doing it well Grin
Toasted bread, butter, brown sauce, crispy bacon, fried egg
