What has happened to Boots No 7?

I bulk buy their Stay perfect compact foundation, Flawless pressed powder and Stay perfect concealer and am about to run out.

I have used them for years and it was by far the best budget range foundation for my skin.
Great range of colours, lovely creamy foundation - perfect for my skin.

I went to buy more and No 7 have redesigned everything.

The packaging is so awful, cheap, tacky and screams true ‘budget makeup’.
It used to be all black (like Chanel 😀)

The ‘Medium’ pressed powder I have used forever is now orange and doesn’t come with a pad to apply it, the foundation compact I have relied on for years is ‘not available in store’.
I daren’t order it without seeing it first in case the colour has been changed too.

Has anyone else noticed?

Why do companies mess with products that have been brilliant for so many years?

Can anyone recommend an alternative?

I know! It looks smaller too

NinaDefoe · 16/12/2021 09:33

Yes, smaller quantities, same price.

I’ve used No 7 for decades. I just don’t understand the huge change.

Noooooo! I've only just discovered the compact powder and thanked my lucky stars that after decades of searching I finally had the perfect powder.

WHY ME, GOD, WHY?!

Every time someone makes decent makeup they go and change it to be shit!

I dont understand it either, they've put the mascaras and foundations in boxes. I dont understand why, its just packaging to throw away. Im sure they've changes the formulations aswell

QforCucumber · 16/12/2021 09:37

I use the day and night creams and they've said they've changed all of the packaging to be 100% recyclable, you can also return empties now for money off and boots points.

thebabessavedme · 16/12/2021 09:37

They have done it with the maat foundation too, it used to be a pump action bottle, really handy, didnt make a mess and you could use every last drop, now it got a screw top with a kind of wand attached, hopeless!

TolkiensFallow · 16/12/2021 09:38

Also. It’s become bloody expensive

thebabessavedme · 16/12/2021 09:38

'matt' foundation

SheWoreYellow · 16/12/2021 09:39

I remember around 1990 having a lipstick from them which was dark grey packaging, with a dark pink band around the middle. So they haven’t always been black.

Not that it really matters Grin

thebabessavedme · 16/12/2021 09:39

or even 'matte' ffs

NinaDefoe · 16/12/2021 09:39

I’ve just panic bought Avon compact foundation because not only is the No7 one not available in store, the colour I usually use is out of stock online.

Whoever made the decision to change it needs sacking. Not a clue.

Arghh I bought some new foundation last week and noticed the packaging was now ugly but I haven't used it yet so I'm really hoping the colour hasn't changed!

HibiscusIsland · 16/12/2021 09:41

I use the concealer, mascara and powder but have only needed to replace the mascara recently. The mascara still seems OK, but when they got rid of the lilac mascara not long ago i wasted money trying to find a replacement one. Eventually settled on the volume one. Not sure why they keep changing them though

Ostryga · 16/12/2021 09:42

If they change Hydraluminous foundation I will riot. It’s the only foundation I’ve worn since they released it, my skin loves it.

WHY do companies do this? To save money? Surely they lose more by pissing their customer base off?

I think I still have that lipstick…

I'll be right there with you! I replaced ELDW with hydraluminous and never looked back. They better not bloody change it!

Mascara and limited edition lipsticks come in different coloured packaging. I can’t remember what it was like before it was black.

This awful advert from the ‘90s shows black.

TBH, the packaging is the least of my worries. The change in colour, formula & bright orange compact powder is the main problem! 😅

Yes this is what I use! I only discovered it in May so this is my first repurchase but I love it and have binned of Armani luminous silk in favour of it!
NanTheWiser · 16/12/2021 09:47

They have discontinued my favourite eyeshadow, I’m really pissed off! I’ve been buying it for years, and now no more. I found a few on their reduced shelf which I snapped up, so will have to try and find on eBay now.
Why do they do this!

I think they get new people in charge who think (wrongly) that it’s time for a re-brand.

No7 is staple makeup for middle aged women like me.
Here’s a thought for anyone in charge of decade old brands:
Never piss off a peri-menopausal woman.

I’m getting all nostalgic now!
Boots No7 was a real step up when I was a teenager. I had a gorgeous brown, slightly shimmery eyeshadow called (something like) Truffle ♥️

What has happened to Boots No 7?

Yes! WTH have they done this? The only good thing to come out of this was during their change over, they were selling all their old stuff for a fiver each but still why mess with it??

I’m so angry I missed this! I would have bought it all! 🤣

I used Stay Perfect foundation for years and went online to buy more about a month ago. Saw reviews since the product change had dropped to 1* so didn’t buy them but went instore. The service there was perfect. I explained reviews had said new product was bad and colours didn’t match and she told me they were told it was the same as before. I had my old bottle so showed her and she agreed texture different, colour different, ingredients different. She then made up pots of product in similar colour to my old one to try at home. I’m now used to the new texture and worked out my new colour so bought one.
However it shows they haven’t even trained their staff or thought about their customers at all in the change. I’m looking for a new product but will keep going with what I have until I find one to move to.

MaryHingey · 16/12/2021 10:18

What???? They've changed the colour too? It's called the same
Ive bought it for years after a colour consultation with their beauty staff, will they refund if ir doesn't match anymore?
Ive just bought two foundations so £30 I can't afford to lose
