Side dishes to go with gammon

I’m cooking gammon (for the first time!) at the weekend for a family dinner, but I can’t decide on the best side dishes to serve with it.

I’m looking for inspiration, please

Fried egg and chunky chips.

Was coming to suggest this. One of my favourite meals is gammon, egg and chips

Is it absolutely necessary to soak a gammon or bacon joint in water before roasting, or not ? I guess it's done to reduce the saltiness.

The Ham, potato dauphinois and Delia’s braised red cabbage are the holy trinity of Boxing Day dinner and no one will ever convince me otherwise.

Dick about with other stuff and you might as well throw the whole thing out onto the lawn.
