Do you recognise names on here?

I saw someone call someone out a while back for mentioning something they had previously said on another thread, calling them creepy or something to that affect and it just got me thinking.. By now, I have been lurking and posting for such a long time that I do in fact remember many names on here and certain things they may have said in the past. I have been told I have a remarkable memory at times, but I never realised this made me creepy!

So, do you recognise names on here and remember certain things you have seen from them on other threads or am I just an oddball? Grin

I tend to remember someone if they are very argumentative. Also there are a couple of posters who are obvious trolls, and I remember them because they hold such outlandish opinions that it sticks in my head. Generally these types will repeat the same nonsense on thread after thread so quite memorable.

Yes. Folk used to joke about keeping spreadsheets - I don't know if anyone ever did. There is a prolific poster on one of the sub-forums who name changes regularly but is nevertheless instantly recognisable. Certain topics are absolute cat-nip to them.

One poster was unspeakably vile to me a while ago. The post where they told me I should kill myself was deleted but they weren't banned. They still use the name and post fairly prolifically and the more I see of their posts, the more it's clear that they must be really quite odd.

They said what?! How is that not an instant ban? In some countries, that's even an actual crime.

No I don’t.

I name change frequently, I like the anonymity of mn and the ability to name change.

@DramaAlpaca

Yep, I've a good memory for names on here. It's handy because it means I know who to avoid or ignore.
I remember you, because I absolutely love your name and have thought a few times that we’d probably get along nicely IRL. Similar senses of humour. Hope that’s not weird! :-)

I recognise people whose opinions I tend to agree with, who write reasoned opinions/advice, or who have a very specific posting style (sometimes even though they name change).

If it helps OP - and I realise this could go either way! - I don’t recognise your name/style at all.

I mostly don’t namechange because I CBA. And as I’m answering as myself, I don’t need to remember background etc. so it’s easier just to keep one name. On here, my ‘persona’ is just an opinion, when all’s said and done.

BIWI · 08/12/2021 01:28

I don't name change (apart from seasonal competitions).

So guilty as charged. Hmm

KloppsTeeth · 08/12/2021 01:45

I recognise some as I have been around for a long time. NC every now and again. Some names stand out because I might have a connection to the name, others make me laugh, or they just crop
up a lot and have been here for years.

I don’t keep track of who said what though as I don’t have the memory for it and cba.

Augo · 08/12/2021 03:01

There's a couple that I recognise even with name changes as they lifestyles that they post about are fairly out of the norm and some just very prolific posters, I see their name on most threads.

YouGotThisKeepGoing · 08/12/2021 03:37

Kind of. I tend to recognise writing styles and then look at the name and it chimes.

stayathomer · 08/12/2021 03:43

I can't remember their names now but yes there's times I'll think 'oh yay it's x' because we have similar opinions or else 'oh it's x, I should have known.' I have to admit I do find the thread generally gets dragged down by someone saying 'didn't you post about this before?' Or 'you said X months ago' etc, then people pile on, I just find it uncomfortable

Hoesbeforebroes · 08/12/2021 04:56

Some names look familiar but I can never remember anything they've posted, or whether I agreed with/admired them in the past.

There's one exception, a prolific poster who is almost always rude and inflammatory. Literally the only poster I remember, but not in a good way.

TheLovelinessOfBaublyDemons · 08/12/2021 04:59

Well yes, I have friends here. But also people who've been here longer than me.

A580Hojas · 08/12/2021 05:30

I've been on Mumsnet 15 years but would probably only recognise about 20 names now.

IAmTheLovechildOfYvesAndIsabel · 08/12/2021 05:55

I've been here on and off for ten years ( which is shocking to me) and I have had probably 5 NC at the most. There's some posters that I still wonder about - are they still here under a different guise? Some that I really like either there sense of humour or their opinions. There are at least 4 that I just cannot believe can be so consistently vile.😁

IAmTheLovechildOfYvesAndIsabel · 08/12/2021 05:57

Their not there ffs! Still would love an edit button.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 08/12/2021 06:10

I recognise and remember a fair few names and generally remember whether I tend to agree or not.

There’s one poster’s name I always remember and I look out/wait for on the teaching threads. I always agree with her and she writes what I want to say but in a much better way than me. I try not to be embarrassingly gushy when I post quoting her though.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 08/12/2021 06:14

As an aside, I do wonder though why MN allow NC. I do see for some people they don’t want posts linked. However surely it would cut down on trolls and fake posts.

I am very attached to my MN name and would hate to be ‘outed’ with it. I have an alternative name I use for things that run that risk so I’m very glad MN allow NC.

IncompleteSenten · 08/12/2021 06:14

I recognise some posters because they have had the same username for years.

Sparklingbrook · 08/12/2021 07:12

Yes but as a PP said you have to maintain you absolutely don’t. Wink

IhateBoswell · 08/12/2021 08:12

Of course. Not every name, but some are just memorable.
Some make me 🙄 when I see their name before I've read their comment.
