Do YOU remember this perfume (ca. 2005)?!

Something about not being able to travel much over the past couple of years has made me seek escapism through... perfume! I've gone mad for it. I've got together quite a little collection now and am missing one I used to have, but I can't remember the name of it.

The facts:
I bought it in about 2004/5.
It wasn't expensive, just an impulse buy somewhere like Superdrug.
It had a red glass bottle, like a lopsided/squashed cube (?).
I'm no olfactory expert, but something deep in the mix reminded me of chocolate.

??????????

I have trawled the internet, including Fragrantica, looking for clues, but so far drew a blank and I wondered if anyone here could help!

Oh fabulous!!! So pleased you found it! (Suspect Mumsnet broke Fragrantica, as I tried to get on it before to look at the notes in Isa and it was just dead in the water.) I kind of guessed it was one of hers from your spectacular artwork. Pat yourself on the back! I just had to wrack my tiny pea brain (until I actually looked like your drawing) and remembered the name of the one in the red bottle.

Btw, you weren’t too far off with the “dirty slag” comment either… I’m one to chat to everyone. That fragrance was popular with a certain demographic (male and female) because it was inexpensive and the mens luvs it. Good to freshen up all over and get back to work. I hope you buy some more! It was really ahead of it’s time when you read the fragrance notes! (So was her original, Manifesto. It had basil in it…. mmmmm… I always said if you smelled like Pizza you’d have men falling all over you!)

You did brilliantly!!

I am also quite pleased that earlier in the thread, I said we were getting warmer when moving in the direction of, say, Coty.

Look at this!!! I don't think I ever turned the bottle upside down and saw this!

I have to say, So...? is what came to mind for me. This was the body spray version but they had a perfume too. Red bottle, black lid.

I've written to the eBay seller asking if they'd consider posting outside the UK... 😃

Fuck's sake, why are all the images gone from that? :o

Yiayoula · 06/12/2021 15:14

You were spot on with the S or Z sounding name, OP !
Love a happy ending ….

ancientgran · 06/12/2021 15:20

Totally irrelevant but looking at the photos of Isabella Rossellina and I never realised how much she resembled her mother.

StarCourt · 06/12/2021 15:21

Something by Jovan or Lacoste?

RandomMess · 06/12/2021 15:22

This has kept me entertained. Hope you manage to get a bottle of it!

MyDcAreMarvel · 06/12/2021 15:24

Great thread, please let us know if you get hold of a bottle.

I just glanced back through my posts and saw that I insisted on this earlier

It wasn't themed to a celebrity name or anything like that.

Ha!!!!!!!!!!!

...but yes, @ancientgran, she and Ingrid Bergman had the same sweetly perfect beauty. Nothing dirty slaggish going on at all there!!!!!!

I'm helpless with laughter at poor Isabella Rossellini and her dirty slag perfume Grin

CeeceeBloomingdale · 06/12/2021 15:34

I was just going to post that the shape reminds me of Manifesto by Isabella Rosselini but it's the wrong colour, then I saw your update. I miss that perfume, twas lovely.

Me too!

"I think the name has an S or a Z in it (or both) and that it conveyed a sort of posh/polite way of saying dirty slag."

Well I was right about the S's... (and a phonetic "Z") but I don't see IR's name as synonymous with "dirty slag" 🤐

OP posts:
ShinyHappyPoster · 06/12/2021 15:38

Maybe there was something in the advert that had those connotations Grin

BlueTongueSkink · 06/12/2021 15:39

I love this thread ....I am also snorting at poor Isabella being a dirty slag AND now we have a satisfying resolution!
Good work!

Hope you get a bottle OP!

StellaGibson118 · 06/12/2021 16:01

I used to wear Nina Ricci back then, she was quite popular. It was shaped like an apple but she had other bottles too.

StellaGibson118 · 06/12/2021 16:04

Sorry OP just seen that you've found it, I misread the post as having 10 posts in total not ten pages. Hahaha

Benjispruce5 · 06/12/2021 16:19

Lauren by Ralph Lauren. That was burgundy glass with 4 corners as you say but a tall slim bottle with a hold stopper. Not chocolates though.
