How can I hang my wreath?

ItsAllAboutTheLighting · 05/12/2021 17:39

Made a great wreath (if I do say so myself!) but I can't hang it.

The front door is UPVC and all the hooks I try are flat and the top of the door isn't flat.

I don't have a door knocker to hang it from either or a back door.

Are there tricks?

I saw someone online put a hook on the opposite side of the door but every time the door closes, it will put a sudden massive strain on both sides and I've no doubt it would yank the hook off.

I've got a heavy home made wreath, and I think I have the same door as you. I use a command hook with no problems - specifically one for bathrooms because they're waterproof, though I don't know if that is necessary. It's a big one and can take more weight than you'd think. DH uses the same ones to hang heavy tools in the garage

This is the inside of my door. Command hook, ribbon over top of door.

DH screwed a hook to the door. Obviously it will stay forever now. You could use super glue as well but again it’s forever.

I have Christmas ribbon on mine going up over the door and stuck with Gorilla tape on the inside.

I've got a glass panel on my door. My wreath is pretty heavy but a Command hook does the trick. This is the 2nd year I've used it. They're brilliant. Definitely the best option

RosieRoww · 05/12/2021 18:08

I'm having my wreath on this metal over the door hook- I just bent it so it copy the the upper door frame and the door can close and it works fine.
I have a upvc door too.

None of these doors are UPVC.

And I don't think those who suggest putting the ribbon over the top of the door with the hook on the inside understand what I mean about the lip or looked at my photo or read any of my posts.

Lots of people are saying the suction hook so I've bought one from Amazon. Fingers crossed it can handle the weight of the wreath! 🤞🏻

My door is UPVC with a lip. The ribbon works for us. It worked in the last house too. Sorry to have offered my advice on what worked for us Hmm

Gladioli23 · 05/12/2021 18:16

I think a command hook is more likely to be successful than a suction hook.

I have a command hook that isn't even that big and a homemade wreath in oasis which is soaked in water and it's absolutely fine.

Outlyingtrout · 05/12/2021 18:17

Wow. Rude.

You have actually had a couple of suggestions that would work but maybe you didn't read them properly Wink

HippyChickMama · 05/12/2021 18:18

I have a uPVC door that isn't flush at the top. I thread 3 long loops of strong twine (red and white striped so it looks a bit more decorative) through the metal wreath frame at 12 o'clock, 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock positions. I throw the 12 o'clock loop over the top of the door and tie it to a star decoration with a ring on top. I then thread the other two loops through either side of the letterbox in the upper corners, pull them through on the inside and tie them to the ring on the star decoration too. I hope that makes sense, I'd take a photo but ours isn't up yet.

Twilight7777 · 05/12/2021 18:23

Last year I used some strong string to tie the wreath and wrapped the string around my inside door with strong gaffer tape.

TSSDNCOP · 05/12/2021 18:24

On the inside hang an adhesive hook upside down. Pass the wreaths ribbon over the top of the door and look round the cup holder.

TSSDNCOP · 05/12/2021 18:27

Yep mines not flush either.

Then again, I'm a qualified florist and have hung massive moss based wreaths like this for 15 years.

Amateur me.

InTheLabyrinth · 05/12/2021 18:27

I think if you have a ribbon, the door shape wont be a problem, it will just fold itself into the right shape.

I can totally see the solid hook not working tho!

TSSDNCOP · 05/12/2021 18:29

I see fellow amateur Martha S does likewise.

Garman · 05/12/2021 18:39

I have a door with a lip like that. I use ribbon and hook it around the letter box on the inside for my heavy wreath.

Whatwouldnanado · 05/12/2021 18:48

Haven't done this myself but read the tip somewhere. Two wreaths equalish weight one either side of the door joined together with ribbon. Secure ribbon each side with a bit of gaffer tape out of sight behind the wreath.

TheOneWithTwoParties · 05/12/2021 18:49

I bought a suction hook for mine. It's been on my UPVC door for 3 years and held moss wreaths and more. The thing is so strong I've not managed to remove it so it just sits there year after year in all weather!

From one florist to another. I hear you Sister! I've been telling people the ribbon/ command hook or drawing pin method for years but hey ho. Hmm
Goldi321 · 05/12/2021 18:56

Having a lip on your UPVC door is not that unusual OP…

Choccyp1g · 05/12/2021 18:58

@BalladOfBarryAndFreda

Wide wired ribbon threaded either through the hanging loop at the back or around the top of the wreath itself suspending it and up over the top of the door, attached on the inside (wood door not upvc but would still work). Like in the attached pic
This is what I do, but I put an indoor wreath on the other side, so no need to drill a hook into the door. Usually needs a bit of strong sticky tape on the inside to stop them flapping when you open the door.
FazedNotPhased · 05/12/2021 18:58

Came on to suggest the upside down command hook.

Staying to discover how else the OP can be incredibly rude to helpful people who haven't applied the correct level of scholarly analysis to her posts.
