How many meatballs do you serve per person?

DC think they should have 6 meatballs per person. I think 3 is sufficient. DH says the number is 5.

I usually try to make mine but when I buy them they come in packs of 12 - what does that mean? 12 for a family of 4?

How many do you serve?

@MissOrganisedMe it is this recipe although I have tweaked it ever so slightly for my family

www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/pasta-recipes/meatballs-and-pasta/

We use dried rosemary, not fresh and breadcrumbs as we always have those in although blitzed up crackers of any kind can also be used. I also don't fridge them, roll them and straight onto a baking tray with a little squish down to increase the surface area and into the oven. Turn half way through so you get that lovely crunchy bit on both sides.

ChristmasFluff · 03/12/2021 15:44

It depends how hungry each person is.

Kite22 · 03/12/2021 17:41

I'm confused by 12 pack too!

I don't understand what is confusing about a 12 pack of meatballs. It is a pre-packed tray thing with 12 meatballs in it, that is sold in most (all?) supermarkets. How can it be confusing ?
@Whadda - what are your measurements for your recipe?

@SpoonWhereArtThou - just a teaspoon of mustard, oregano and rosemary?

Thanks.
I eyeball it because i make them regularly but a rough recipe for a large batch for the freezer is-

500g minced beef
150g sausage meat
100g breadcrumbs
50g shredded parmesan
Enough chopped fresh parsley to put a little bit of greenery throughout
Dried red chili flakes depending on your preference
1 egg (may need a second depending on how it’s coming together).

I mix then roll into balls. I then put them, separated apart, on lined baking sheets and into the freezer. Once frozen, I then portion into freezer bags (freezing them on the baking trays stops them clumping together).

To cook, I defrost, fry until brown all over, then into pasta sauce in the oven for about 25mins.

My 3 Yr old had 5. Average
2 Yr old has 3. And he's tiny and underweight
15 Yr old has about 9 as do myself and dh all average. .

3WildOnes · 03/12/2021 22:33

I buy the Waitrose ones which are quite small. 300g 20 meat balls serves 5 of us. My littlest probably has 2, next 3, oldest 5, DH 5 & me 5.

@ShirleyPhallus

My god the greed on this thread!! Shock 2 for an adult and 1 for a child is absolutely sufficient, especially when served with 8-10 grams of pasta and a massive salad

No wonder there is an obesity crisis

i was thinking that, but since i don't eat meatballs nor known anyone who does, i thought maybe i have misunderstood what they are. isn't it too much meat anyway, esp minced meat which contains much fat ?
3WildOnes · 03/12/2021 22:44

@ShirleyPhallus Surely it depends how large they are? Although me, my DH and my oldest all have 5, they are all quite small and that is about 75g of meat each. Waitrose pack of 20 300g

I know, horrendous isn't it Wink
ISpyCobraKai · 03/12/2021 23:18

It's winter, it's not a massive salad, its a huge pile of vegWinkGrin

Thank you @HaaaaaveyoumetTed 🤦🏼‍♀️

Monday55 · 04/12/2021 07:00

It's just 2 of us and I always cook a pack of 24 and refrigerate the rest to be eaten randomly in the week. Sometimes we serve them with rice or with mash potatoes and veg.

I usually have 3 or 4 and DH has 5 meatballs.

Ducksurprise · 04/12/2021 07:11

I got it too, and was getting very confused by all the people who seemed to think Shirley was being serious.

Grin and don't call me Shirley

But a portion according to the pack is four meatballs. So it's sold to feed three which is an odd portion size.
tigger1001 · 04/12/2021 07:18

@Leafsontheline

4 each. There’s two of us, so we get a pack of 12, have 4 each then have a portion for the freezer. I add loads of veg to bulk it out a bit..
That's what I do too. Lovely thick sauce with lots of veggies in it
Whadda · 04/12/2021 10:09

@alexdgr8, how do you know whether everyone you know does or doesn’t eat meatballs?

I don’t eat courgettes but I don’t think anyone apart from my husband knows that.

Do you know very few people?

middleager · 04/12/2021 10:11

5 or 6 each for teens and DH.
