I am taking a good friend out for lunch in a few weeks to celebrate her 50th birthday. I would be really grateful for some suggestions for London restaurants with decent vegetarian options. Thank you!

Dalloway Terrace, fabulous for a girls lunch and the most beautiful flower displays.

Murano - has a vegetarian menu and is really lovely (as you would expect from Angela Hartnett)

I would recommend ottalenghi Nopi or rovi for veg food. It’s not only vegetarian but they are often the stars of the meal.

Verite1 · 15/11/2021 14:35

Rules is known for being very traditional, meat based. It is not somewhere I would take a vegetarian!

Pollen Street Social

@Letsallscreamatthesistene

Rules. Hawksmore.
Hawksmoor for a veggie?!!!!! GrinGrinGrin

Pollen Street Social has by far the best vegetarian options for your price range. Believe me, I hunted for weeks and weeks (and asked on MN) to find the right place for a family celebration post lockdown. PSS was recommended on here, and both my veggie DS and me came to the same conclusion that it had the most interesting menu of anywhere we could find in London.

DS still says it is the best meal he has ever had and he's been to a few Michelin starred places.

The Gate (Marylebone), Gauthier (Soho), Farmacy (Westbourne Grove), and Mildred's (Soho) are all great plant based restaurants.

Is your priority amazing, exclusively vegetarian food or a special occasion destination type restaurant with something extra eg a view, beautiful building etc? I'm not sure you can have both. You'll have to pick between an excellent but limited vegetarian menu with just a few options and a fantastic location or a fantastic vegetarian restaurant with a smart but not super special location.

Mmm, just been investigating all of these great options. I am particularly taken by the Pollen Street Social menus!! Grin

Kerridges bar and grill is epic

TheDogsMother · 15/11/2021 16:03

Another recommendation for Ottolenghi. Also Look at Chiccetti or San Carlo Chiccetti. Wouldn't recommend Hawksmore for a vegan friend, it's very meaty.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 15/11/2021 16:11

Ok, neither one of my suggestions are good for a vegetarian! Both very meaty.

Does Ottolenghi and the Ottolenghi recipes books come from the same person? The recipe book is my fave!

Hoolihan · 15/11/2021 16:13

Rules & Hawksmoor are terrible recommendations for a veggie. Ottolenghi would be great, or how about the River Cafe? Pricey but fabulous. Moro is also wonderful, or Nutshell. Brasserie of Light? Claridges? Dishoom is nice but not special occasion in my opinion.

Tulipomania · 15/11/2021 16:13

Does Ottolenghi and the Ottolenghi recipes books come from the same person?

Yes.

Hoolihan · 15/11/2021 16:14

The Ivy isn't brilliant for veggies either tbh.

1990s · 15/11/2021 16:16

LOL at Rules and Hawksmoor.

Wild by Tart (Victoria)
German Gymnasium (Kings Cross, is meaty but also has v good veggie things)
Second the suggestion of Six by Nico.

tiltedworld · 15/11/2021 17:14

Yuatcha soho.
Informal Michelin starred dim sum.
Plenty of veg options
Lovely atmosphere
What's not to like

defnotadomesticgoddess · 15/11/2021 17:46

Dishoom

Crispyduckandpancakes · 16/11/2021 00:03

Thank you, all of these sound fabulous!

Benihana [[https://www.opentable.co.uk/benihana-chelsea link here]] is fab - Japanese syle cooked v theatrically at your table. One of my daughters is vegetarian and really enjoyed the veg option while the rest of us ate steak, salmon etc
