Mine is just the M and S range. It looks good and I'm not naturally creative.

@ChocolateGingers

All Souls Day when you pray for the dead is Nov 1st. The day before is the evening (the 'een' ) of it.
It's all saints day on November 1st and all souls on November 2nd.

I hosted my first Halloween themed dinner party 20 years ago so, as far as I'm concerned, this isn't "new", just a bit of fun.
10 or so of the DC's friends over for tea tonight. Choice of mummy's fingers for tea (hot dogs) or brains and blood (spaghetti with tomato sauce) followed by jelly with jelly worms and spiders. M&S vampire fang crisps and (more) brains (popcorn). Doughnuts on strings and apples from apple bobbing.
Had 20 or 30 T&T'ers so far and we're just off out ourselves leaving DH at home with another 100 or so bags of mini sweets. We'll blow out the pumpkin at 7.30ish.

It pre-dates the Christian All Saints Day / All Hallows' Eve.

Its origins go back to Samhain which is a traditional Celtic celebration where the veil between the living and the dead was perceived to be at its thinnest.

There would be a feast in honour of the changing seasons and ancestors.

Costumes would be worn to ward off unwanted spirits.

Some still celebrate Samhain.

@ChocolateGingers

It was a very lovely tea! Grin

DS has declined the opportunity to watch a film with me - and taken the ice cream I bought up the stairs to his room. I have got some Old Jamaica Ginger Beer and am vaguely wondering whether to make myself a Dark and Stormy (which is Rum and Ginger Beer). I have lit a gingerbread candle and the thought is tempting.

I probably won't watch Ghostbusters on my own. I wasn't very interested, but thought I ought to make an effort for the only child still in the house. We are very rural and no one will be knocking on the door!

What’s everyone’s spread for bonfire night?? 😂

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 01/11/2021 19:39

Bonfire night? Pie and peas, mint sauce and Parkin. Obviously.

This thread is so sad, full of "ooh, golly gosh, never heard of that". Please, you've never heard of party food or Halloween parties?

Sausages cooked on the bonfire, toasted marshmallows and bonfire biscuits. We won't stay outside too long though as my little boy hates the loud bangs!

I think it's probably the assumption that everyone is having a 'Halloween Buffet' like it would unusual not to. It's not really 'sad' though, is it ...

NigelSlatersXmasTaters · 01/11/2021 23:05

Not sad as in Long Lost Family sad no.

Sad as in other posters pile in to try and make OP feel inferior because "oh gosh, is this a thing now". Yeah, it's that kind of sad. Just another reason to bash someone and it's the same old usernames too. Predictably sad
