Mine is just the M and S range. It looks good and I'm not naturally creative.

So not just any old Halloween buffet, it's an M&S buffet.
Badtasteflump · 31/10/2021 16:58

Love the idea of a Halloween Buffet! We're having beef casserole in a mo but will be having spooky cupcakes for dessert - and spooky cocktails later (aka any cocktails that are red in colour). Does that count? 🎃🎃🎃

SequinnedShawl · 31/10/2021 16:59

If people want to make Halloween fun for their children why not? We've had a shitty couple of years so why not let the children have a bit of harmless fun? Halloween Smile

There's too many misery guts on here.

Dominos followed by lots of popcorn watching Ghostbusters 1.

I have made spooky buffets in the past but I just can't be arsed this year.

The m&s stuff looks great!

ChocolateGingers · 31/10/2021 16:59

Unfortunately yes. Just.

It's often not harmless though.

Old people are often terrified of their door bells being rung at night.

Some kids can be really unpleasant (I'm talking trick and treat).

It's all so commercial now, and an import from the US.

It used to be a bit of harmless fun decades back, to an extent, but no one ever demanded sweets or did trick and treating. That's come over from America.

lollipoprainbow · 31/10/2021 17:06

Hot dogs, mini pizzas, spring rolls, crisps and chocolate eyeballs none of which has been touched as kids too excited to go trick and treating !!

Badtasteflump · 31/10/2021 17:06

@chocolategingers - It depends on where you live. I'm in the South East and I was Trick or Treating when I was a kid four decades ago... Same goes for family in Ireland. If it's done in a cutesy/spooky way I think it's lovely and soooo fun for the little ones.

elephantoverthehill · 31/10/2021 17:07

Years ago at least 50 my DM did a Halloween party for us and neighbours children. The crowning glory was a cake she had stuck sparkers in and then lit. The dining room table didn't fare to well. No such thing as indoor fireworks back then Grin

Noavocado · 31/10/2021 17:08

If I serve our sausage and mash on paper plates can I call it a buffet?

Never heard of a Halloween buffet before but it sounds fun so I'll remember for next year.

Just having a beef stew tonight, been in the slow cooker since 8am and is delicious

MadMadMadamMim · 31/10/2021 17:17

We've got roast lamb, roast potatoes and roast root veg (including squash, pumpkin, beetroot and carrot - so vaguely Halloween).

Also got sticky toffee pudding and ice cream.

There's no one little in this house to go trick or treating, but I did suggest to DS (17) that we watch Ghostbusters on Netflix and I've bought some Mr Kipling orange french fancies and some marshmallows to go with hot chocolate. It's cold, wet and windy so we've got a coal fire in the living room.

That's as good as it gets here.

@Badtasteflump I'm a bit older than you, and we used to roam our small cul de sac with a kind of lantern, but no one demanded sweets. The worst we did was knock on immediate neighbours doors and show them our lanterns. There was nothing demanded and the words "trick or treat" didn't exist.

Not just any old bangers and mash.
@FTstepmum I am with you all the way.

The thought of more plastic going into landfill or oceans is not one bit of fun.

It's all become a means for shops to make money by selling plastic masks, decorations, costumes, you name it, and people destroy the planet.
Couldn't agree more - like all the other commercialisation of things that seem to have crossed the Atlantic! And before anyone says the chat is about supermarket food- all mass produced and no doubt plastic wrapped so just as bad.

Tis not it's medival/ Celtic "souling or guising". I did trick or treat as a child (80's) as did my DM (50's)

No, All Hallows/ All Souls' Day is an ancient and semi religious custom.

Tricking and treating is an import.

ChocolateGingers · 31/10/2021 17:30

All Souls Day when you pray for the dead is Nov 1st. The day before is the evening (the 'een' ) of it.

butterpuffed · 31/10/2021 17:32

I'm truly glad that knowing about Halloween Buffets has passed me by until I saw this thread Grin

LadyCatStark · 31/10/2021 17:34

Jesus some people are getting their knickers in a twist over a buffet 😂. Which occasions is it acceptable to have a buffet for? We aren’t having one to be fair but we have done in the past when we’ve had family over.

SunShinesBrightly · 31/10/2021 17:35

Frogs eyes on Halloween headstones here.
(Beans on toast)

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 31/10/2021 17:35

Does red wine count? You know, blood…
