This cake - yes or no?

I fancy one of these frilly vintagey cakes for my 30th birthday party but not sure if they're stylish granny-chic or just a bit granny? What do you think?

I must be very selfish but I go for the things I like and do not care what others may think.

Demerara icing sugar is worth buying whenever you see it imo. It is a bitch to sieve but creates the most gorgeous fudgey icing; as a buttercream you can get a salted caramel effect if you like. The icing is beige obviously, so it needs colouring to look nice. Above cake would be fine but you won't get a pretty pale pastel with it.

Looks like too much icing for my taste. I would probably chose one with chocolate decoration or a thinner layer of icing. But if you like icing then that's not an issue.

Love it. The colours are a bit too much for me so wouldn't go for it but it looks pretty still.

I also wouldn't care if its granny-chic, just granny or old-timer. If I/you like it, that's all that matters.

Is it a Lily Vanilli cake? I had one a few weeks ago (not a massive icing fan), but my goodness it was delicious

Love it! My wedding cake was not dissimilar and it was bloody lovely!

I didn't even know you could get demerara icing sugar, I'll keep an eye out for some to try, it sounds fab!

I am a cake fanatic but that one just looks sickly to me I'm afraid. Its over decorated.

Surely there’s no such thing as an ’over decorated’ cake?

I love this. And taste is subjective, I wouldn’t find this sickly at all looks lush.

From personal past experiences , these cakes are just too sickly sweet and flavorless.

Cakes like that are why we have cake forks
