Can I canvas opinions on teen bedtimes please?

Y9 & Y11, what time is bedtime term time and then weekend/hols?

Have a feeling I’m being played!!

My 13 yo self regulates. Sometimes I am asleep before she is yes because sometimes I'm in bed for 9.

Year 11..bed around 10 30 school nights as he would keep everyone awake.
Weekends and holidays whenever really. But if I feel he's becoming too tired when he then starts attitude or being rude and obnoxious then he has a 10pm bed for a night. Seems to work. Helps him regulate himself as he realises what will happen so automatically goes to sleep earlier.

Y11 around 9.30pm
Y9 slightly earlier around 9.00pm

Tbh during the hols, they still go to bed at a similar time. Both if mines seem to think going to bed late and then getting up is a waste of a day….
(Aka not imposed by me iyswim)

FWIW I’ve tried to teach my dcs to self regulate. My message since they were tiny was that if they were tired, they needed to go to bed.
Same if they couldn’t get up in the morning etc….

Talking to my dcs, it seems that few of their friends are going to bed that ‘early’ though!
But they are also over tired and struggling to get up in the am 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Y8 and Y10 here. Termtime, screens away 8.30 - 9pm, lights out 10ish. Later in the holidays and weekends. Occasionally DS1 has a late night session with his friends which is fine.

I don’t remember when I stopped enforcing bedtimes - maybe year 8? Ds is a total night owl in the holidays, will stay up til 2 and sleep in, but in term time he has to get up at 6.30. He’s very physically active in the day too, so he’s usually in bed by 11 out of choice.

Ds is year 11.
