Just feeling a bit let down

Not sure what I'm after here to be honest, just feeling a bit fragile and a bit sad.

Basically I've had horrible painful swelling for a couple of weeks (assumed it was part of an ongoing problem- it turns out it's not) and I now have a hard lump in the same place which drs have suggested may be cancer and have fast tracked me to have a scan. I told my manager everything. On friday I recieved my date for the scan, it's this week and work wont allow me to take it off as they cant get cover.

Just feeling a bit unimportant as this could potentially be quite serious.

Do not cancel your appointment under any circumstances whatsoever. Also as soon as you are able to - secure employment elsewhere and tell your current employers to go and fuck themselves.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 24/10/2021 23:19

Op, this is your life possibly at stake. You go in tomorrow & say I think you misunderstood our last conversation. I am giving you the courtesy of letting you know I won't be in on this day due to my appointment. This may be cancer which is why I have such little notice. The quicker the tests are done, the better my chances are. I will not be cancelling this appointment. I am under extreme stress at the moment and my GP wanted to sign me off there and then. Out of regard for you I did not take that offer and would appreciate some consideration during this time.

Guys... I did it! I have the morning off to attend the scan.

Chewieboora · 25/10/2021 13:05

Excellent. Unfortunately the scan will over run by several hours due to the hospital being so busy, what a shame you won't be seen in time to get back to work...

Good luck OP. Your manager is a complete dickhead. I hope it all goes okay.

FreeChuro · 25/10/2021 13:10

It is in a city actually which is a long bus journey each way...

sakura06 · 25/10/2021 13:27

Glad you got the time off OP. Your work was being outrageous. Hope everything is ok.

HerRoyalWitchyness · 25/10/2021 13:33

Fantastic news! Well done

onelittlefrog · 25/10/2021 13:59

You have rights here, OP.

They can't stop you from going to a necessary medical appointment.

You have let them know and they will have to arrange cover.

thetesdybears · 25/10/2021 15:14

I wouldn't be asking for time off I'd be telling them I won't be in. If they can't find cover tough, your health is more important!

billy1966 · 25/10/2021 15:43

Well done OP.

Now you know who hasn't your back, think twice about being so obliging in future.

That manager is a disgrace.

Best of luck to you.Flowers

CoffeeBeansGalore · 25/10/2021 16:12

Well done Op and best of luck Flowers

jamsandwich1 · 25/10/2021 16:16

Attend the appointment. If it turned out to be the worst (I sincerely hope that it is not) and you delayed seeking treatment would you honestly hand on heart think that not leaving work in the lurch was worth it?
Please, please go.

AwkwardSquad · 25/10/2021 17:19

Well done, OP! We’ll be thinking of you - sending positive vibes :)

Bonbon21 · 25/10/2021 17:22

Well done... now you know you can do it!!
Take that courage and confidence forward with you.
Hope all goes well for you with the scan.

user1471538283 · 25/10/2021 17:33

I agree to get it in writing that your employer has refused you time off for this. It is outrageous.

Then go whatever your employer says. Bloody hell, I've heard it all.

I hope it goes ok.

FreeChuro · 25/10/2021 18:25

Thank you for the support everyone Flowers I was feeling very alone and a bit lost, just knowing I wasnt being over sensitive about the matter was a huge help for me, I was second guessing if I was being a drama queen and just felt a bit embarrassed to be turned down so abruptly.

I’m glad you got sorted @FreeChuro . I was outraged reading your op, how long did they think it was ok to wait for a cancer check!

I’m currently on the path too, I’ve had a biopsy and I’m waiting for results now, it’s feels like forever and I’m fairly certain you’ll be glad not to have delayed if you do need further checks following the 2 week appointment.

Very best of luck with it.

Cantstopthewaves · 25/10/2021 18:33

Well done standing up for yourself and best of luck at your scanFlowers.

Roselilly36 · 25/10/2021 18:35

You need to make that appt OP, it’s urgent, if you turn it down, you could have to wait a long time. I hope you keep the appt and have reassuring news. Good luck.

FreeChuro · 26/10/2021 20:21

@Ohhhthepain have everything crossed for you that it all goes okay Flowers
