Could you give me an example of your weekly meal plans?

I’m looking for inspiration. I want to start being more organised with the food shop and start making a weekly meal plan. Teen DDs are getting bored of our usual dishes and younger DSs hate change so it’s a bit difficult to please everyone! Just wondering what other people’s weekly dinners look like! Thanks 😊

Nut roast with roast pepper sauce

Slow cooker turkey and butternut squash chili
Slow cooker maple balsamic chicken and veg
Slow cooker veg curry

birdglasspen · 23/10/2021 17:37

I would happily come round to anyone’s house and eat these meals! That’s my dream. I do all the cooking and meal ideas and with two young children it’s A hard to find time and B frustrating when they don’t eat it! Oh to be organised and have meal plans! I dream of a week where someone cooks for me (and I do/did like cooking!). Before anyone complains about DH he works 12 plus hour shifts with few of any days off.... going to try the division of responsibilities from now on wish me luck....new feeding regime 😂

fantastikko · 23/10/2021 18:01

birdglasspen, my DH started doing the cooking whenever he came back from work hungry and nobody else had started making it, then it just became the default (because why would I start making it if I knew he would do it, and had a zillion other things to do?) But I'm lucky as he's usually home by 6pm. Once he started doing the cooking it just made sense for him to do the online shop too - or it may have been the other way round, can't remember! Grin

Twilightstarbright · 23/10/2021 18:02

@Crepuscularshadows I’d love to eat at yours!

Thanks to those who shared their meal plans, I need some inspiration.

Chilli
Spaghetti and clams

We eat a lot of pasta!

Lessstressedhemum · 23/10/2021 18:12

Yesterday, I cooked some mince with onion, grated carrot, oats, beef stock, herbs and seasoning. So this week's meals are based around that.
Cottage pie - add peas, mash, grated cheese
Mince pie with chips and roasted broccoli
Lasagne - add tomatoes, garlic, pesto, a pepper and some mushrooms. And, obviously, lasagne, a white sauce and some cheese
Red and white bean curry and rice
Chipotle pepper soup and crusty rolls
Jacket potatoes beans and cheese
Potato goulash

Last week I cooked a one kilo ham an the meals were
Ham, wedges and peas
Ham and leek pie
Hawaiian rice
Lentil and ham soup
Pea and ham soup
Puff pastry ham and tomato pizza
Mushroom stroganoff
Potato curry and flat bread.

Lessstressedhemum · 23/10/2021 18:16

Should have said, I'm feeding 4 adults, 5 for the vegan meals because then I can eat those too.

Bbq1 · 23/10/2021 18:28

Samanabanana · 23/10/2021 18:45

steppemum · 23/10/2021 23:02

One thing I do is to make double quantities oof something, but servie it differently.

spag bol
same sauce for lasagne

beef casserole with dumplings
beef pie

chilli and rice
chilli and baked potatoes

chicken casserole
chicken pie

roast chicken
Indonesian chicken soup

roast beef
beef slices and chips

That way you feel like you are cooking one day less, as it is half done in the fridge

Titsywoo · 23/10/2021 23:20

Mine is slightly more vague as I know if I say we are having something specific I will change my mind. I shop twice a week and stick to this plan

Sunday - Roast
Monday - Pasta
Tuesday - Asian dish (usually a curry or Korean/Japanese dish like Galbi Jim with rice and veg)
Wednesday - Stew
Thursday - Freezer Day (so we can clear some of the old stuff from there!)
Friday - Fish
Saturday - Takeaway or eat out or tacos if we are out of money!

FinallyFluid · 23/10/2021 23:34

Next week looks like this...

DS up in London tonight, so will by his own admission be hanging....

DH does the roast, he can't be bothered for two (fair dues) so are off to Caffe Piccolo for dinner.

Only problem being no left overs for the left over roast stir fry.

Monday - Mince with honey, soy sauce, served with baby gem lettuce. There are shredded carrots in there as well as water chestnuts and mushrooms.

Tuesday - Pan fried salmon with sticky rice and warm teriyaki sauce and dry roasted sesame seeds (the black ones are the best) with fine green beans.

Wednesday - Chicken fatty eaters

Thursday- still under consideration.

Friday - out on the tear again.

Saturday we eat at the rugby club again.

FuggyPidding · 23/10/2021 23:39

SageYourResoluteOracle · 23/10/2021 23:57

I love this thread!

@WinterCarlisle your menu sounds delicious!

I’m a fan of batch-cooking, sometimes using a slow cooker:

Aubergine parmigiana with a green salad
Lamb tagine with cous cous
Sweet and sour chicken with rice
Chicken korma with naan and maybe some homemade daal if I’ve got some
Beef and mushroom stroganoff
Chilli either with beef mince/pork mince/turkey mince or just a variety of beans served with jacket spuds and guacamole
Homemade pizza (dough is prepped in bread machine in just 45 mins!)
Lasagne (meat or veggie)
Pasta bake with spinach, ricotta and Parmesan
I’ll often do a roast on a Sunday and there’s usually enough of everything the next evening.

Always on the lookout for more ideas, though!

Choconuttolata · 24/10/2021 00:10

We are 6 and often feed my elderly father to make 7.

Typical meals in autumn/winter include:

  1. Caribbean chicken curry and rice
  2. Spag Bol
  3. Left over Spag Bol with beans (pinto or cannellini) to make a version of cottage pie.
  4. roast chicken thighs (2kg) or whole large chicken with roast veg
  5. chicken breast in panko breadcrumbs with rice and katsu sauce
  6. pork schnitzel with mashed potatoes
  7. sausages and mash
  8. lamb stew with Yorkshire puddings
  9. air fried salmon and chips
  10. chicken/pork or beef stir fry with rice or noodles
  11. Thai curry and rice (kids have tikka masala or korma instead)
  12. Pasta and spicy garlic tomato sauce with either prawns, chicken or turkey/beef meatballs
  13. Tacos with Mexican beef and rice with salad and dips.
  14. Seasoned rice with chicken and vegetables

Easy dinners are either oven food (pizza, chips, fish fingers, nuggets or burgers) or jacket potatoes with tuna mayo sweetcorn, cheese and salad.

I would like to do more veggie meals but the kids all have their own veggie likes/dislikes that would make that more difficult.

AlexaShutUp · 24/10/2021 00:12
