When you kind of hope that a new thread meanders on quietly because it means that life is being fairly stable...

What are ADs?

Here's the copy and paste job...

Definition of AD
^AD stands for anti dementor.
There are creatures in Harry Potter called dementors, who suck all hope and happiness from you and eventually take your soul. Way back at the start of the pandemic thread after thread was posted on by posters like this and anyone who'd dare question anything or disagree with anything (like putting cheese in your coffee) was bullied off these threads. And so any actual discussion disappeared and it became an echo chamber of misery.^

We are the antidote to that. We follow the rules, but not the "roolz" and we question and discuss with respect to each other. It's all very civil.

Entirely reasonable. Dementoriness ruins everything.

My reaction to belong locked up for 10 days is that I'm going to be thinking very carefully about who I spend time with and when.

I'm not vaccinated, which means if someone names me as a contact I have to isolate. I'm not against it, as such (I was delighted when my gran had it, and told my mum that if I were her - she has some lung damage from what I suppose we must now call long pneumonia - I'd have it, though she didn't!) But I was breast feeding, and there were all the concerns about AZ (which stopped being given to my age group about a week after my vaccine appointment would have been) so I thought I'd just wait a bit. Now I don't feel I can make a proper informed decision because I won't be sure I'm not choosing it because of passports and such. So I'm still waiting until such time as I can make a proper decision.

So my decision is that I will only be spending time with people who I either know won't be testing, or in situations where there's a clear benefit to DD (like toddler group). I just can't afford to risk anything else.

110APiccadilly · 17/11/2021 09:18

Also, they can forget me giving blood. Mask and I might have to isolate if the person taking it is positive?!

Worldgonecrazy · 17/11/2021 11:37

I’m also not booking anything abroad whilst the threat of ‘two vaccinations is no longer fully vaccinated’ remains.

The bribery and coercion to get Pfizer into everyone stinks. I am strongly against the lack of choice.

thenightsky · 17/11/2021 11:44

Just had a look at booking my booster (even though I'd decided yesterday I wasn't having it). Looks like the decision is out of my hands... anywhere remotely close to me is coming up as 'unavailable'.

justasking111 · 17/11/2021 13:45

Booster in Wales hahaha they'll contact us when they feel like it. No point booking anything Dripford is wittering again on Friday, he's gonna go for hospitality, even though Cardiff figures are ahem bloody rugby related. Rhondda and Caerphilly god knows, poverty, perhaps

thenightsky · 17/11/2021 14:17

That's the stupid thing... They DID contact me. I got a text telling me to book my booster. Then, when I go to book they have nothing at all available that doesn't involve and 3 hour round trip! And that's by car. God knows what people without a car would do.

amicissimma · 17/11/2021 14:31

"The bribery and coercion to get Pfizer into everyone stinks. "

I've been feeling vaguely smug that I've had 2 x AZ and 1 Moderna, but couldn't understand why. Thanks to you I realise that somehow 'everyone's having Pfizer' (they're not, of course, but it feels like it) and I don't like to be part of the 'in crowd'.

Sometimes I wonder if my head will ever get the message that I have actually left school!

Mirrors, do they have them?

ISaySteadyOn · 17/11/2021 17:19

And random question, anyone besides me indulge in watching the guilty pleasure that is Riverdale?

BogRollBOGOF · 17/11/2021 20:59

@Worldgonecrazy

I was going to go shopping in Cardiff this week then remembered welsh rules, so have decided against it.

We also have a weekend booked near Dolgellau. I have said if it’s too dementoring I am going home.

We went out that way in May and August. It was all having to book anything in advance so we stuck with naturally outdoors activities and takeaways. In August it was bliss compared to Ireland! It was just good to be somewhere that was not my house/ county.

In half term I did a one-night road trip to catch up with some extended family, that was amazing to have a Premier Inn breakfast Grin

I'm surprised I haven't heard more about boosters for 40+ since the start of the week. I am really not enthused about the prospect of a third jab in 8 months. My area was ahead so my second was already 5 months ago. I had AZ and the first one hit hard 24 hours later, as in couldn't walk 500m home when my energy drained out on a little walk. Second one was fine. But switching brand also doesn't enthuse me incase there are side effects again.

I don't have imminent travel plans, but there is the risk of a family crisis triggering short notice travel.

I did... but lost interest this last series...
ISaySteadyOn · 17/11/2021 22:15

They've gone all Wickerman/Midsommaar on this new version. I like it.

My experience too, apart from the first one hitting me bang on 12 hours later.

Worldgonecrazy · 18/11/2021 07:04

My guilty pleasure is Hallmark Christmas film channel !

Worldgonecrazy · 18/11/2021 07:41

Don’t know whether to be paranoid or proud that the social manipulators have their best team on mumsnet? GrinGrinGrin

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 18/11/2021 07:58

I'm so cross just how. I'd reluctantly given permission for DS2 to have the vaccine at school this week having spent ages saying up the pros and cons. Now the advice has changed and he shouldn't have it because he only had covid 6 weeks ago and I have to faff about withdrawing permission as he'll get really anxious about what to do if he's on the list to have it.

It seemed obvious to me that he didn't need it so soon after but was trying to do the right thing!🙄

Luckily my other 2 are too old or young to have it in school so up to us to sort out (or not)

Taswama · 19/11/2021 10:57

Hope this is sorted now @MrsDeaconClaybourne . Presumably DS can just say no on the day, although I understand the anxiety this can cause.

The thread on 'why things are kicking off in Europe' makes for interesting reading over in the C zone. Some intelligent debate which makes a nice change.

justasking111 · 19/11/2021 12:14

Kicking off in Europe, we can only dream of their low figures. The whole of Austria has lower figures than Wales.

MrsEWeatherwax · 19/11/2021 13:53

Europe is scary, so easy to take away our civil liberties. In a click of their fingers.
I can’t believe they still seen obsessed with zero covid, it not going to happen is it?
At the moment I’m more worried about having to self isolate than any thing else. Being stuck in house takes me back to my past period of depression.

Worldgonecrazy · 19/11/2021 14:01

Europe just makes it so obvious this is no longer about a virus Confused

MrsEWeatherwax · 19/11/2021 14:32

Control.

WouldBeGood · 19/11/2021 15:01

It’s really terrifying

I don’t understand why people think it’s ok

Worldgonecrazy · 19/11/2021 15:30

Perhaps people think if they are ‘good’ then bad things won’t happen to them? A bit like why we like to believe rape myths? If we are not ‘that woman’ we won’t be attacked.

There are actually people still saying ‘if we all would just [insert random sign of compliance] then we would have our normal lives back’ and they actually believe what they are saying. Absolutely crazy!
