London restaurant

We want to celebrate a few occasions we've missed with a family meal in London.

It's for adult early twenties DCs, DH and I and MIL.

We don't mind splashing a bit but would rather not go too crazy, looking for a place we will feel welcome (mil doesn't like too posh) but also maybe a bit of fun/ novelty.

It'll be a Saturday early evening if that makes a difference.

Can anyone recommend somewhere please?

Any cuisine except Indian as one of us (guess who Wink) doesn't like it.

Thank you

I'm going to Brasserie Zedel this weekend, on recommendation of a Mumsnetter! I'll watch this thread and report back if you like OP.

I love dishoom but I think the MIL does not like Indian.

Burger lobster is nice but it's just a chain that sells cheap lobster, it's more meet up with friends than family detinstio meal.

How about yuatcha? Great food but not pretentious (it's Asian fusion)

Pollen street social is modern

Chiltern firehouse? They do good food but maybe too flashy?

I love hakasan (Tottenham court rd one is best) as I can't get enough tea smoked ribs.

Zuma for sushi, I'm hoping this is what they serve in heaven 🤣

Yes please! I'm thinking DH and I will need to visit on our own sometime.

Petersham Nurseries in Covent Garden. Gorgeous food, beautiful interiors, friendly service.

Just had a text to say she'd like somewhere with a view and a nice place to take a photo for her Facebook page ConfusedGrin

Blacklock, Hawksmoor, Sushi Samba, Le Relais de Venise, Flat Iron (apparently I stick to steak)

@IntermittentParps

I think Brasserie Zedel is meant to be nice. Lovely looking but relaxed atmosphere.
We went here the other week and it was very pleasant. There are stairs to get downstairs though.
CorianderAndCream · 13/10/2021 23:27

Bar Remo is an Italian just off Oxford Street. Quite small but cosy and classic. Good food and nice service.

thinkfast · 13/10/2021 23:29

Brazerie zedel - has a glamourous vintage feel. Lots of hustle and bustle.

Quaglinos lovely food. Posh(ish). Nice atmosphere.

Oxo tower - this might suit you best because of the wonderful views. The brasserie is cheaper than the restaurant. Both have great food and a special treat out feeling.

CorianderAndCream · 13/10/2021 23:30

No idea about places with a view I'm afraid. Bar maybe, Sushisamba but it's very expensive and really adds up.

Seabird has views but I haven't tried the food yet.

Helix in the Gherkin also has amazing views and lovely food but is quite fancy and expensive.

Palavah · 13/10/2021 23:35

Oxo tower brasserie or restaurant for the views. Something for everyone on the menu. Let them know it's a special occasion.

Stillfunny · 13/10/2021 23:37

Just back from London.Brasserie Zedel is as good as ever .Great backdrop for pictures too. Still reasonable for London. Also went to the Delauny where they even decorated a dessert especially for a birthday.

Stillfunny · 13/10/2021 23:38

Maybe go for a rooftop bar for a cocktail before dinner.

gelert5619 · 13/10/2021 23:49

Sarastro on the corner of Drury Lane is a favourite of mine. You'd walk past it as the outer has small windows and is covered in ivy.
Continental/middle east food. Something for everyone.
Inside is decorated, absolutely bonkers. Two levels. Theatre boxes of various sizes from old theatres that you walk up steps to and look down on everyone, velvet table cloths like jewels, masses of gold everywhere and opera in background. Nice staff. Do check the website, or better, have a look before you book, you won't be disappointed. Food great and not expensive.

HundredMilesAnHour · 13/10/2021 23:55

What about the The Swan at The Globe? Good food and a stunning view for MIL's Facebook page. Wink

Btw The Ivy is just as wonderful as ever. No idea why people go the the Ivy cafes when you can go to the real thing (which is infinitely better).

Oxo tower brasserie.
lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 14/10/2021 01:16

Restaurants with a view. Any of the ones inside the shard, duck and waffle or sky garden.

lemonsaretheonlyfruit · 14/10/2021 01:18

Duck and waffle is lovely. Not too expensive and the highest restaurant in London. Also city social. Amazing toilets with a view!

fashionSOS · 14/10/2021 08:20

@CorianderAndCream There is a lift... If you have mobility difficulties or you're just lazy like me you don't need to walk.

TrueRefuge · 14/10/2021 09:03

The Swan at the Globe might be a good shout! Great photo opps!

ShuddaBeenMe · 14/10/2021 09:33

I've had another text.

Can there be celebrities there?

(They once booked a last minute holiday and sent us a photo saying look who we bumped into to, and the photo was MIL with her arm around the waist of a rather bewildered long haired man. We were all baffled until BIL said give us a clue, and she said it's Bill Nighy! She got the right hump when we asked why he was at a 3* all inclusive in Tenerife.

So as long as there's the possibility of a vague look alike we should be good Grin

I recently went to inamo in soho which was good. They have interactive tables that you order from. They also do really good deals on bottomless food and drink which is really good value
