So learning to drive for around 2 years obviously covid happened which postponed lots and cancelled Theorys ect... I had my theory the start of this year passed with flying colours... I thought that would be the hard bit for me!! I am more hands on... anyway zoom on months later I had my first driving test the other week... I failed with a serious... i am so so disappointed in myself i needed this to be able to take my children to where they need to go while I work.. I have never felt so angry with myself... #1 I can drive... i would not have said this 1 year ago but i really can... i absolutely crumbled on my test i felt sooo shaky and i was breathing like i was in labour! How embarrassing lol... everything was going smoothly i pulled up to a crossroads... the one I had just done in my lesson previous to my test none the less... and I moved into my filter lane to turn right lights were green I edged forward and stopped there was 4 cars ahead of me turning left I obviously know I give way... it's there side of the road.. anyway.. the first two cars went and the next car was a learner and he pulled out stopped went stopped went stopped he was creeping so not stalling... I totally panicked in the moment and I went to go but so did he and I went to put the break on but it disappeared from my foot as the examiner pushed quicker... I'm such a bloody idiot I keep replaying it in my head... i have never in my the past two years felt like this or made a mistake like that.. btw i wouldn't of hit him i was breaking :/ i just dont know if to give up... it took me a good week to scrape myself back to normal after that test it's really knocked my confidence... I did everything I had seen to help with nerves.. good sleep practice practice banana rescue remedy no caffeine water positive thoughts... erghhh I just dont know why I felt like that I felt I could have died with anxiety... do I go on?! Anybody had similar nerves/anxiety situation?? How did you cope?

Congratulations @KLM19 !!

Janaih · 02/11/2021 22:48

Not a test scenario but I did manage to scratch my instructors brand new alloys that he'd got the day before and spent the whole hour talking about. And I mean scratched. He was not a happy bunny.

Janaih · 02/11/2021 22:49

Congratulations and happy driving! :)

I was third time lucky!! My sister was 5th!! Honestly keep going and you will pass Flowers

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 03/11/2021 09:11

I took 5 tests, although failed the eyesight check on the 5th. I passed a month later. I had a heavy cold, it just made my slow down and think a bit more. I’ve been driving 30 years since, largely unremarkably.

You’ve got this, you just need to persevere.

Boood · 03/11/2021 11:01

Took me four goes.
#1- failed on reversing around a corner
#2- failed on reversing around THE SAME CORNER
#3- cunningly got my boyfriend to park his car on that corner. The examiner told me to drive there and sit waiting for him to move. Eventually gave up. I was a bit rattled by that point, pulled in too sharply after going round a parked car and she grabbed the wheel off me. Dangerous fail!
#4- different test centre. All good.

That was 25 years ago, and honestly, I just wasn’t ready. I was a safer driver by the time I did pass- I could actually drive rather than just take a driving test. Don’t give up, you’ll get there.

vinoandbrie · 03/11/2021 12:58

Yay I’m so happy for you, and that the propananol was useful! Very happy driving to you Flowers

Janaih · 03/11/2021 15:41

@Boood that's so sneakily clever I love it Grin

dementedpixie · 03/11/2021 15:52

Well done @KLM19. I failed twice and one of them was for speeding up to get through a changing traffic light Grin. They put the brake on for me too.

When I passed I had 14 minor faults and the maximum you could get was 15 so I passed by the skin of my teeth

Acappuchinoplease · 03/11/2021 17:15

I failed the first one, had very few minors and one major which was a silly mistake because of nerves. Tried again and passed second time, although I thought I’d failed completely.
I know someone who didn’t pass until the 10th attempt so keep going, you’ll get there

user1471543683 · 03/11/2021 17:25

My DS recently sat his test for the second time. He failed 20 seconds away from the test centre. Absolutely gutted for him. He pulled out to turn left with a car coming down but had plenty time. His mistake was rather that confidently turning left he's snailed around causing the car coming to have to adjust their speed. So frustrated for him as he can drive and apparently even the examiner was gutted for him. Fingers crossed he passes next month

TroublesomeTrucks · 03/11/2021 17:33

I passed 4th time. First 2 were not being ready and silly mistakes. 3rd test I fell apart. I got over the number of minors to fail, plus I got 4 minors in 2 separate categories which each would have been a fail on their own, I also got 2 majors and a 'D' for dangerous driving. The examiner told me I needed a course of lessons before trying again. Instead I booked another test 2 weeks later and didn't get in the car again until the morning of the test and passed easily with 1 minor.

I've now been driving 20 years and never had an accident or a ticket for anything other than parking.

mrstea301 · 03/11/2021 17:58

I passed on my third test, and I got beta blockers for that one. I was absolutely fine driving but would just get caught up in nerves when a tester was sitting in the car with me. If you have long hair, tie it back, and make a point of exaggerating your mirror checks etc.

Something that I think also helped me was that it was really cold and icy the day of my third test, and when my instructor picked me up, she couldn't get the driving instructor sign to stick on the top of the car, so she drove most of the way to the test centre and I only practised for about ten mins before my test. I think it helped as I still felt fully alert and hadn't relaxed into driving, like I would have if I'd driven for the hour beforehand!

Peanut82 · 03/11/2021 18:08

@prsphne

I hit the wing mirror of a parked car on my second test. The person was in the car so I had to pull over, get out and apologise.

I passed third time though!!

I did this too 😂😂
ForkedIt · 03/11/2021 18:11

Congratulations! Read your first thread and when it popped up just now on active I hoped you had a happy update!

clarepetal · 03/11/2021 18:17

Don't be so hard on yourself, I passed second time round, think it took my dad 3 attempts and he was a great driver (I'm not great) You'll get there in the end x

DiaryofWimpyMumm · 03/11/2021 21:22

Well done op!! I hoped there would be a happy ending I bet you are delighted!

KLM19 · 08/11/2021 21:04

Over the moon still seems not real!! I had to update! I hate when you dont find out what happened lol!!! I was so shocked the test ran so smoothly! It was during rush hour! And cop26 made the traffic worse, it over ran by 10 minutes due to someone blocking the road ( the other learned on there test :/ ) but I totally nailed it!! Eeeppp...
