Panorama & Pandora - what's the point?

Watching Panorama last night, regarding political party donors. Also the Pandora papers is in the news today (after research dug up by the BBC).

But despite all this stuff being "exposed" and in the news, what is the point? No-one is ever accountable for anything. No-one is ever shamed into undoing their actions. In fact it seems to confirm that people of power, wealth and privilege can get away with anything to the detriment of all the "little people".

But so what ? Tories are in power. Numerous episodes of tory mps exploiting their position. Jenrick's dodgy dealings with property developers, Sunak managing to get an affluent place like Richmond levelling up support above places like Barnsley...too many to mention. What's your opinion on those ?
As I said before, this is my opinion.

All this sends out a powerful message that it's okay to do whatever it takes, screw over whoever it takes, to look after number 1. All sanctioned by politicians, business leaders, celebs and generally all the "great and the good". There is a fat seam of moral bankruptcy flowing within society.

I feel terribly sad for poor old Tony Blair having to buy a whole company to get a house he liked the look of. There's a couple down my road that probably would have been cheaper. Poor bugger [sad0

I'm not interested in it really. I don't think it's possible to write tax law to avoid loopholes so of course where the amounts of tax are big enough it makes sense to get professional advice on how to legally reduce the tax you pay. HMRC have really cracked down on convoluted arrangements to avoid tax in recent years anyway plus the government's introduced new laws to widen the tax net where overseas companies/individuals are involved. You can't close all the loopholes though.

I think this illustrates the problem that I have with the reporting (not a criticism of anyone on this thread) but the focus on Tony Blair etc detracts from the really bad stuff that's in the files that we should care about - bribery, corruption, exploitation, the mafia.

Agreed re tony blair. He's irrelevant. It's what's going on now. And nobody cares sadly. Just universal apathy.
@Neveratruerfriend absolutely. There's a moral vacuum. Even down to tradesmen getting people to pay cash in hand. Goes on all the time. That's why Johnson is so popular. He breaks the rules, pushes the
boundaries. He's a likeable rogue.

@mynameiscalypso yes you're right. I'm sure there's a lot more dodgy stuff in there but I'm not going to read it because the headline is all about Tony and his stamp duty and I cba to wade through it to the stuff that probably actually matters (and I'm sure lots of people feel the same).
