School holding whole-school assembly

Are your schools holding assemblies at the moment? School have removed all covid protocols. First day back, and all 600 kids were squeezed into the (unventilated) school hall. Seems unnecessarily risky.

I’m pleased the kids are back at school, but why the need for an assembly? (Boring at the best of times! Seems pretty foolhardy at the moment, rates in our area are high)

Are your schools holding assemblies and carrying on as if everything is back to normal?

Ours are at a primary school of 200 pupils and they're sticking to the year bubbles they had before the summer holidays.

Yes apparently they had a singing assembly today according to my child.

Yes, they are. I really don't see the need and wish they weren't.

PersonaNonGarter · 09/09/2021 04:15

My DC are currently off with coronavirus (12&14). They have been really unwell with Delta variant, the 12yo particularly. I cannot stress enough how fit and healthy and sporty they are otherwise.

The ‘it’s great singing with gusto’ just seems deluded from where I am. FFS this is not the illness of last March, this one DOES come for young people and many will be very sick with serious complications.

SpringRainbow · 09/09/2021 05:03

According to the welcome back to school email I received the only measures they are keeping is the extra cleaning and windows and doors will remain fully open where possible.

Apart from that everything is back to how it was pre Covid. So I assume they are doing assembly’s, although to be honest I haven’t asked and my children haven’t said.

I frankly am past caring about it all. They are both fairly happy at the moment, and that is all I care about. I haven’t got the energy to care about anything else.

PersonaNonGarter, hope your dc are better soon Flowers

Given your concerns OP, raise it with the school, suggesting they be outside.

Well how many will have "serious complications"? really? What are the stats?

My teens plus my 9yo have all had delta variant. All are fine. Many of their friends have too (the 16 and 18yos) - all are fine. What are the stats about serious complications?

I do not agree that school and normal school activities should end for this. At all. My dcs need to be at school. The last 2 school years have been awful for them. It's enough.

(and no, I'm not talking about clinically vulnerable children).
