Washing machine

My nearly 18 year old Whirlpool washing machine has died and before I order a new one thought I would ask if anyone can recommend a good make/model that doesn't cost mega bucks? I'm flicking through pages of washing machines on Curry's website and they all look pretty much the same.

Any advice would be much appreciated,

Many thanks.

AEG, had 2, and they’re wonderful. I bought from a local supplier, rather than a chain, came with 5 year warranty. Iy was installed without fuss in a narrow place, old one removed for recycling. My previous WM was shit, I was scared of it. I think it was a Bush or some such.
Good luck, hope you find something that suits you.

@Granllanog yes Beko are vvv good. I’ve only replaced my old one because of new kitchen and washer/drier included.

I had mine second hand for 5 years, and the guys before me had it for 5. Never had a single issue at all.

Thank you, am adding all your suggestions to my list. Good to know AO do installation/removal, will take a look.

I am tempted by a Samsung. My TV is one which is still going strong after 18 years. I'll see what they have.

My Bosch broke down (irreparable) after approx 12 years and when I asked about getting a replacement Bosch, (cos I hadn’t had any bother with it) my repair guy said they are not as good as they were and he wouldn’t recommend them now. Said taken over by Chinese company or something. So I got a Hotpoint from AO and they removed the old and fitted the new (for a price)

If you’re anywhere near South Oxfordshire, there’s a Miele outlet centre in Abingdon. They definitely deliver and the website implies they install too (can’t quite tell if that’s just for ‘perfect’ appliances but got there from a link in the outlet FAQs).

current stock list

Most companies will install and remove old appliances for you at an extra charge for each service. Worth pricing up as they vary considerably. AO will also remove an appliance for £20 even if you haven't bought from them.

Also with AO, you can often order exactly the same product at the same price from Boots Kitchen Appliances. It will be delivered by AO as it's still them behind the website facade, only difference is you get Boots advantage card points which is worth having from the value of a WM!

i recently got Candy CS 149TE 9kf 1400 spin £249 in argos

i went for the highest spin and largest drum that was reasonably priced, I wasnt prepared to pay way over the odds for a trendy machine its not needed as they all have the same internal workings (so an engineer told me)

its great would highly recommend it

FayKnights · 07/09/2021 14:59

Do not use Currys, whatever you do!!!!
I ordered a new machine to replace a broken one a couple of weeks ago and they cancelled it on the day of delivery because it was out of stock!
Absolutely no contact and I had to chase.
I used AO instead and it was a fantastic experience!

I should have added that we went for the LG 10.5kg and it’s been excellent so far

safariboot · 07/09/2021 15:03

I'm unimpressed with our Bosch washer dryer, bought to replace an old Ariston. The Bosch is quiet and cleans well but it brutalises the clothes. Even if I turn the spin speed down, stuff comes out more creased than it did with the old machine and we're finding our clothes wear out more quickly.

Mistlebeem · 07/09/2021 15:06

@Felix125 yes we have a Samsung eco bubble, I probably use the 'forgotten sock" door every wash, very useful!

MrsPsmalls · 07/09/2021 15:14

Our engineer said definitely not to buy a new Bosch. The spec on the new builds has gone down hugely. Same with AEG. Said might as well get a Beko as even expensive brands are built to that sort of spec now.

TwooThirty · 07/09/2021 23:01

Ok I’m torn between a Beko (the cheapest of the three) an LG or a Haier.

I keep seeing other washing machines that add steam to your wash to kill germs which I think is so clever but I think I’m trying not to be swayed!

Ordered a philips one earlier this year..lasted 2 weeks. Exchanged for a samsung eco bubble 10kg. Fabulous machine loads of options very quite clothes spotless. Load is huge. Have bought about 10 in my lifetime this is by far the best. Cost about 400. Love it
