DS1 is almost 13. He's spent the summer pondering his future.

He's decided he wants to be a flight attendant. He has looked into entry requirements for a few different airlines and has told me his plan going forward.

He's going to continue learning German as an extra language will come in handy, do travel and tourism at college followed by tourism management at the local uni before applying for jobs.

He's been reading up accounts from actual flight attendants and absolutely loves the idea. I've never seen him so enthusiastic about a career before.

13 year old wants to be a lawyer ever since I said with exasperation "you should be a lawyer, they get paid to argue"
11 year old wants to be a zoologist or marine biologist

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 05/09/2021 16:30

Dd1 (10) First female manager of Tottenham, actress or chef/Baker or architect are the most recent declarations.

Dd2 (6) Reception teacher, mummy & astronaut and Olympic gymnast.

Who knows where they'll end up....it's exciting to see them develop interests.

DS(14) wants to be the next Zuckerberg/Gates/Bezos.

Aim high, kid!

BikeRunSki · 05/09/2021 16:39

That’s amazing @HerRoyalRisesAgain. My DS is 13 next week, and has no idea. Maybe a “futurologist” (not sure what this is, is it forecasting trends?), possibly an archaeologist.

DD(9) is very good at maths, and asked me what job she could do where yiu had to be good at maths and made a lot of money. I told her an actuary, so she is strategically planning how to do that. I have a cousin who is an actuary, so we have a bit of a clue.

BooksChocolateAndSleep · 05/09/2021 16:40

My ds 13 wants to be a pilot because he just wants to travel and my dd7 wants to be mounted police (she loves a horse and having a bit of power)!!

I thought actuary before I read the rest of the post 😂 she needs to look into being an investments actuary rather than basic insurance, better pay.
CaptainSpirit · 05/09/2021 16:46

My DD1 wants to be an Astronaut-Hairdresser. She is only 4 though.

Mydogisagentleman · 05/09/2021 16:47

DD is going into her second year of her maths degree. She plans a masters, then PhD then world domination.
She is thinking actuary or accountant, ideally an accountant for a rock band. In a perfect world, Oasis would reform and she’d do their work.

bodgersmash · 05/09/2021 16:49

DS14 wants to either be a YouTuber 🤦‍♀️ or to "have passive income like vending machines".

DomPom47 · 05/09/2021 16:55

I also have a 5 year old who wants to be a spy.
Friend who is a doctor said her child will be a doctor whether they like it or not. Think if your child has a career in mind and is enthusiastic about their career then let them be. Would never push my child into a career as I am doing it or I think it’s best for them. Guide and advise but don’t push.

16 year old DGD is planning to be an a actuary. It surprised me she even knew what an actuary is.😊

TeamSpike · 05/09/2021 17:07

Dd(6) says she wants to be a gymnast. Never had a lesson but I'm hoping that I can afford to send her soon

trilbydoll · 05/09/2021 17:10

DD1 (8yo) wants to be a famous film star. She is going to have multiple mansions, limousines, private jets etc and generally live a life of luxury.

I'm not sure whether to keep paying the Stagecoach fees or channel this financial motivation drive into something more realistic Grin

GrasswillbeGreener · 05/09/2021 17:30

I had a friend who was planning to be an actuary in order to fund his wish to play golf. We met at a maths camp and I think he had a putting set in his room!

DD - 18 - is on a gap year then studying English, has made vague noises about publishing most recently but honestly I've no idea where she'll end up. Anything from intelligence work to opera singer is possible still!

DS - just 16 - is currently leaning towards studying maths. A career profiling thing he did at school a few months back reminded us how we've always thought he might make a good engineer; judging by dinner table conversations he could do really well in aeronautics or computer engineering. But a maths degree should still allow him to pivot in lots of technical directions.

However - when we first started discussing A level subject choices and the need to think about what you wanted to do in the future - "I just want to write music". (he has been improvising and composing for near enough 10 years) I think he's appreciated the hint that some sort of STEM career may make it easier for him to do what he wants to do musically until such time as music pays him enough :)

DoingTheBestICan · 05/09/2021 17:34

DS (15) wants to be a scientist concentrating in forensics

TotheletterofthelawTHELETTER · 05/09/2021 17:38

DD wants to be a Police Officer and has her plans mapped out. She’s only 11 so unsure whether she will change her mind or not yet. She’s been dead set since she was about 8 though.

When she was younger she wanted to work in a sauce factory as a ketchup taster.

TokyoTammy · 05/09/2021 17:43

DS (8) wants to be a scientist or an engineer with a specialism in chemistry, but also wants invent stuff as well Grin

DD (5) wants to be a vet. Smile

honkytonkheroe · 05/09/2021 17:48

DD(27) is a Solicitor and decided she wanted to be at about age 14. DD(19) wants to be an Educational Psychologist and is about to embark on a Psychology degree. DS(10) spends most of his spare time in dance lessons where all his dance teachers assume he wants to be a dancer. He is adamant he doesn't want to be though but has no idea what he wants to be though is quite academic.

Yellowbowlbanana · 05/09/2021 17:57

DS (16) has no idea. He wants to travel the world so he's going to do camp America and try and get some work after in a ski resort. He's got a PT job in a hotel already to get some experience.
DD (14) wants the money. I think she'll go into banking or finance. She likes the idea of being an architect too.
DS (11) wants to join the military. He doesn't care what at the moment
DD (9) would like to be a horse ride or dog trainer. She has also said a vet. She adores animals.

Namechangerextrodinaire · 05/09/2021 18:21

My DD9 wants to have a pink ice cream truck with a big donut and a unicorn on the top of it that I drive her round in while she sells donuts and ice creams. We're going to have a pink uniform and a hat each. Confused
