How often do you dine out or get takeout?

I often find I struggle to find the time to cook as my LO keeps me busy. I end up getting takeout between 2-4 times a week.

I don’t know how people can justify the expenditure! We’re really not badly off at all (I’m a moderately high earner an DH is a high earner) but a takeaway is a once in a blue moon treat for us, usually when Deliveroo are trying to entice me with a hefty discount.

Oblomov21 · 02/09/2021 21:21

Rarely. One every other month? Takeaway, an Indian, costs us £80
For 4 curries, 4 rice, 2 naans, popadums etc. Extras. Onion baji.

I can justify it as it's £20 a time for 2 of us and we can afford it. Other people have different priorities but a takeaway from local Thai or Lebanese is far better than anything I can create (this is London zone 3 so it's all authentic takeaways)
Oblomov21 · 02/09/2021 21:24

2 - 4 times a week?
ShockShockShock
How the fxxk do you afford that?

ufucoffee · 02/09/2021 21:56

Once a week for a takeaway. Eat out usually once a week too.

NotMyCat · 02/09/2021 22:01

I get a Starbucks coffee probably weekly, and a burger takeaway (they're amazing!) every 2 weeks
The odd McDonalds
I do a LOT of batch cooking and prepping so there is always food
Stuff like
Tuna mayo (with chopped tomatoes, gherkins, onion) in a tub, egg mayo etc so I can make quick sandwiches
Cottage pie, beef stew, pasta bake etc all cooked and frozen in portions

NotMyCat · 02/09/2021 22:02

And buy your husband Jamie Oliver's ministry of food and he needs to learn to cook as a grown adult!

Different priorities I guess? I don't drink, don't have a car and haven't been on a foreign holiday for years so £20 a few times a month on a take away is fine for me as a treat.
Bluntness100 · 02/09/2021 22:17

That’s quite a lot op and it’s likely very unhealthy. Soon you’ll both have to start cooking to introduce healthy foods to your child and normalise eating dinner together if possible. And everyone can cook. Even your husband,

Deeandwizzy · 02/09/2021 22:20

Takeaway 2 or 3 times a month, eat out once or twice a week.

RosiePosieDozy · 02/09/2021 22:22

Every other week we will have a takeaway or eat out.

It's very easy to get in a rut like you have done, especially when you're the one responsible for cooking. Have you tried batch cooking like a pp suggested? Or easy meals like jacket potatoes, rice and chicken etc?

largelen · 02/09/2021 22:36

We have a takeaway scheduled once a month (each adult takes turns in choosing the restaurant). Only started the habit during the pandemic, we never got them before that. DS gets his own takeaway more often on top of that (once a week) but he's a young adult and it's his money. Restaurants about once a month or so, we usually have an excuse like someone's birthday or we want to try a new one that's opened. We're financially comfortable but it feels a bit of an extravagance, plus it's not really convenient with our dc.

At home we often have partly pre-prepared meals to make it easier to sort dinner, things like chicken breasts with sauce/toppings already added, then we just steam some veg to go with it (washed and prepped the night before). Or I will batch cook things like pasta bake, curry etc so we eat the same thing for a couple of nights.

EllaPaella · 02/09/2021 22:44

Eat out three or four times a month, sometimes more. Takeaway once a week.

TheChosenTwo · 02/09/2021 22:45

Quite a lot of eating out, takeaways less so.
During the holidays I was taking the kids out for lunches about 2-3 times a week, just if we were out for the day or if we went for a walk and there was a pub on the way or something.
I like eating out with my dc.
Evening meals with dh we do once a month, we all take turns choosing a restaurant. We’ve done this for years now and I think it’s helped the dc broaden their culinary horizons!
They do get choices about what’s for dinner at home but it’s not the same as looking through the menu for your own dinner!
Anyway, what with everyone being back to school/college now the lunches will go back to none or just one at the weekend sometimes.

HeronLanyon · 02/09/2021 22:45

Pre Covid eat out 3 or 4 times a week. Takeaways 3 or 4 times a year.

Quornflakegirl · 02/09/2021 22:46

On average one take away a month and we eat out every 6 weeks roughly.

99victoria · 02/09/2021 22:46

We never get takeaway. TBH I find it quicker to rustle up a quick meal - salmon, jacket potato, salad - than to decide what we want to order and wait for it to arrive.

I eat out with my girlfriends a couple of times a month. We don't eat out as a couple at all except when we're on holiday (which is quite often :) ) We like cooking

Jenniferturkington · 02/09/2021 22:47

Take away once a week. Eat out a couple of times a month.

HeronLanyon · 02/09/2021 22:48

I will add I live in central London with restaurants all around me and on my street - of all types and prices etc. Partly explains high usage.

Ikeeponkeepingon · 02/09/2021 22:49

Too bloody often, at least two or three times a week. More if you count sneaky nuggets from Mcdonalds when I take ds.

MrsJBaptiste · 02/09/2021 22:51

Drinks out - twice a week
Take out - once a week
Dinner out - never (we try to but the drinks take over...)

stevalnamechanger · 02/09/2021 22:52

Gousto 4 nights
Eat out 1-2 nights a week
Maybe 1 takeaway a week or if not something Easy cooked

NannyAndJohn · 02/09/2021 22:54

Pre-Covid we ate out every couple of weeks. Haven't set foot in a restaurant since Feb 2020 though.

Never get takeaways.

Megan2018 · 02/09/2021 22:54

I live in an area with no takeaways nearby (none deliver), so almost never. Occasionally we will get McDonalds or fish and chips if we are in town, but it’s a 40 min round trip so rarely go specially for that.

We ate out probably once a month on average pre Covid. Not got back in to it yet.
