How often do you dine out or get takeout?

I often find I struggle to find the time to cook as my LO keeps me busy. I end up getting takeout between 2-4 times a week.

Takeaway once a month sometimes twice. Rarely eat out now as have kids!
DC eat the same as what we have for dinner so no need to order takeaway unless we are treating ourselves.

rookiemere · 02/09/2021 19:43

Takeaway once a week during lockdown, normally once or twice a month. Eating out averages out about once a week.

CurryLover55 · 02/09/2021 19:47

We dine out very rarely, maybe a couple of times a year ( evening) & a few more times than that for lunch. Takeaways maybe fortnightly, usually fish & chips. Indian or Chinese less often.

alwaysstressed · 02/09/2021 19:49

We got takeout 4 times last week and I would've got it again if I didn't force myself to cook something. I absolutely hate cooking!!

JorisBonson · 02/09/2021 19:50

We get either once a week - dinner out if we fancy getting out of the house, takeaway if we're lazy.

Always get enough Thai to feed an army and a posh breakfast delivered around payday.

Whitewolf2 · 02/09/2021 19:51

We eat out on average once a week, takeaway once a month or every other month, but where we live we don’t have a lot of options! If we had deliveroo it would be different. Instead we make do with Ocado and M&S meals when tired.

Boombadoom · 02/09/2021 19:52

Once a week on average.

GoodnightGrandma · 02/09/2021 19:53

Take away - never.
Dine out - only on one of our birthdays if we want to.

Frenchforkids3 · 02/09/2021 19:58

I eat out 2-3 times a week. Generally one dinner during the week, one lunch (often work associated) and then once at least on weekends.
I love a good restaurant!
We rarely get take out.

HaveEyeRuinedTheCurry · 02/09/2021 19:59

We eat out 3/4 times a week

danadas · 02/09/2021 19:59

Two-three times a week because we have become lazy. Aiming to cut this down through winter as hopefully will feel less inclined to go out.

Gatehouse77 · 02/09/2021 20:00

I’d say we average about twice a month for either eating out or takeaway.
But, I enjoy cooking and all the kids have been taught to cook do we share it out now.

I began menu planning when they were younger as that helped me manage my time better. If possible, I’d double a recipe so could take from the freezer if needed. I’d also factor in easy meals - pasta parcels (as my lot call ravioli, tortellini, etc.), hot dogs and chips, etc. so I didn’t feel like I was chopping onions every day!

FreakinFrankNFurter · 02/09/2021 20:00

Dinner/proper lunch or takeaway probably once a week. Takeaway bacon butties with coffees probably two or three times per month
A cafe type lunch or coffee and cake probably once a week

Ragwort · 02/09/2021 20:02

Very rarely have a takeaway as the quality where we live is very poor.

I have a lunch out with my elderly DM most weeks she pays.

Don't often go out as a family, I would if we had better restaurants near us but a very mediocre meal, with indifferent service can easily cost £60 or more for three of us and I just don't consider it much of a treat.

Hope54321 · 02/09/2021 20:02

@Jessaas

How many children do you have?!
One 7 month old and a husband who can’t cook.

Once a month takeaway. We only really eat out if we're on holiday or it's a birthday.

RobinPenguins · 02/09/2021 20:03

Once a week, either/or.

charliebear78 · 02/09/2021 20:03

We are always out and about at the Weekends with the kids so we will find a cafe and get lunch.
Maybe once every other month to dine out at night( just us)- to be honest we have been disappointed in meals out so many times lately and it costs so much that we prefer to eat at home, we both like our food and cooking so enjoy doing so.
Take outs maybe 3 times a month- kids like Pizza, we like Indian so will usually get one or the other.

1forAll74 · 02/09/2021 20:03

I never have takeaways, and not eaten out for several years now. There is a pub in my village that does meals. and they are expensive, and from looking at photo's of their food on their website, it looks pretty horrible.

Maskless · 02/09/2021 20:06

Never eat out. Never have a takeaway.

I used to do both, rather a lot.

Then one day I was spitting the gristle out whilst eating yet another sweet and sour pork when I suddenly came to my senses.

£4.70 for 8 bits of battered gristle sitting in a tray of liquid sugar, and another £4.20 for a little box of oily rice. I'd also had to buy two spring rolls and some prawn crackers to make it up to the minimum charge.

Suddenly I was shocked at how much money I was wasting every year eating this unhealthy overpriced junk. I threw it all in the bin and have never had one since -- it's now been two years.

NatashaRf · 02/09/2021 20:07

We've not had a takeaway this year I don't think.

But do dine out maybe once a month on average. Nowhere fancy normally Wagamama/Comptoir/Yo Sushi. Generally if we're out shopping.

We're more likely to grab a coffee out than a full meal. Probably get a coffee out once a fortnight/once a week.

Blitzes · 02/09/2021 20:09

Fine out rarely maybe once every few months (although I did brave our fave local cafe with my 3 kids today as end of hols treat)

Takeaway has crept up to once if not twice a week during lockdowns but since Easter once a month unless there is a special occasion happening that month then sometimes two

My DH also can’t cook (gave himself and kids food poisoning from chicken chargrills and chips 🤦🏻‍♀️) so I do all the cooking in our house but I also love cooking. It’s my me time listen to a podcast or audiobook

If you’re wanting to cut down maybe batch cooking is a good idea? I do it once a month and then if I don’t feel bothered to cook I can just grab something from the freezer to cook (we’re a family of 5… 2 adults and 3 kids 9,2&1

imamearcat · 02/09/2021 20:17

Probably take out once a week eat out also once a week.

TweedePrik · 02/09/2021 20:22

Pre-covid - probably one takeaway and one meal out per week on average - not counting work lunches.

During covid - we generally have had 2 takeaways per week. To break monotony and to support local places during lockdown as we were both still working from home.

Since places have been open again, and with holidays, meet ups with friends etc we have gone a bit a mad. In the the last week I have had 5 meals out.

Ifailed · 02/09/2021 20:24

Last take away was fish and chips at the seaside in 2019, I have dined out but it was years ago.
