Apple Watch SE - questions

I am torn between a Fitbit Versa 3 and Apple Watch.

Can an Apple Watch last a whole day yet? I had the first Apple Watch and it became a pricey paperweight because the battery was awful.

I sold my Apple Watch as it only lasted a day. I have a Fibit Versa three now. The functionality is similar to Apple Watch and the battery lasts approx 4-5 days.

To be honest if the battery on the Apple Watch lasted longer I probably would have kept that. Pure laziness won for me!

Lakeshore6 · 29/08/2021 13:19

That is my worry. I currently use an original versa and whilst I’d love an Apple Watch the battery is the one thing that kills it for me

I have an Apple Watch 4, for me it lasts a whole day, usually I have half - quarter battery left by the end of the day depending on usage. I could probably stretch it to 2 days with just using it as a watch (no exercise/ workouts etc)

Xiaoxiong · 29/08/2021 13:49

Same for me @applepineapple - my Apple Watch 4 is usually just under 50% when I take it off in the evening to charge, if I forget to charge for whatever reason it will run out around dinnertime the next day. I don't use it to track my sleep so it's no big deal, I just put it on the charger every night with my iPhone and airpods.

Auntycorruption · 29/08/2021 14:38

This is astonishing!

I was planning on getting one whenever the new version comes out in September but it never occurred to me the batttery would be so rubbish! Are you saying you really can't wear it all day & night without charging? My old fit bit lasts 5-6 days.

Mendeleyev · 29/08/2021 14:51

I’ve got a series 3 that I use everyday. It lasts all day and overnight. I then charge it in the morning between getting up and going out to work. It gets used for fitness tracking (classes and running) and seems fine for what I want.

Lakeshore6 · 29/08/2021 16:07

I think my needs have changed and I seemed to have given up on sleep tracking and calories but need more usage of a watch , reminders and messaging

I charge mine overnight (I don't want my sleep monitoring) and if I forget it goes flat by early evening of the second day. I actually find it easier to keep to the routine of overnight charging compared to my old Fitbit which lasted 5 days or so, I was always letting that go flat accidentally.

chipsandpeas · 29/08/2021 16:18

im about 16-18 hours between charging my series 5

Toddlerteaplease · 29/08/2021 16:39

My Apple Watch SE lasts two days.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 29/08/2021 16:41

Mine lasts about a day and a half, but it charges really really quick. Less than an hour gets it to full charge, so I'll plug it in while I'm sorting dinner, or having a bath and then it will be good for another day and a half.

thecapitalsunited · 29/08/2021 16:44

My husband has the SE and it lasts a full day no problem.

FrenchFancie · 29/08/2021 17:30

It depends how you use it I think. I have an SE, I took it off charge this morning early at 5am, I’ve been walking round with it but not streaming music or anything - it’s been passively counting steps etc. It has 72% battery now (5.30pm so about 12 hours?). I’ve stretched it to two days between charges before although it was down to about 10%. Doing things like music or workouts uses more battery.

I had a versa 2 and hated it as it never ever connected to my iPhone.

StartSelect · 29/08/2021 17:38

I have the Apple Watch 6, came out at the same time as SE I think. Lasts a day no problem, I charge it while I’m having my morning cuppa and putting make up on each morning, and it’s ready to go. It charges incredibly fast too.

LBOCS2 · 29/08/2021 17:41

I fully charge mine every other night. I also stick it on charge when I'm in the shower each morning and that keeps it going in the interim. It definitely does a full day!

Mylee · 29/08/2021 18:02

I have the SE and get at least a day and a half each time. I use it for workouts and step tracking and also reply to messages on it so it gets a lot of use

eatthepineapple · 29/08/2021 23:08

I have the SE too and I was also worried about this. I either charge overnight or in the morning while I'm having a shower. I can squeeze 2 days out of it I would say, but it's better if I can charge in the shower. It doesn't take long to charge so this seems to work for me. I like how I can set reminders and use as and extension of my phone. However one thing that surprised me is that I can't get a whatsapp app on it - though you can read and reply to messages but only really when they come to you, you can't write one first or come back to it (if that makes sense)

ErrolTheDragon · 29/08/2021 23:21

I stick mine on the charger overnight. I put it on at about 8 this morning and it's at 54% now. DH wears his 6 at night for sleep tracking but mainly because his does the arrhythmia detection (he gets atrial fibrillation). So he just does it when he's in the bath or odd times.

CovidCorvid · 29/08/2021 23:26

There should be a new Apple Watch launched this autumn, possibly next month….rumoured to have a better battery.

Or have you looked at the Garmin venu? Much better battery life.

EastWestWhosBest · 29/08/2021 23:30

I charge mine overnight as I’m not interested in sleep tracking. However when I have worn it overnight it would fully charge while I was in the shower etc.

I also recommend looking into Apple Fitness. It has loads of great workouts.

Thank you everyone

I caved and got the SE and so far I’ve been really happy with it and used it in ways I could have only dreamt with my Fitbit

but the battery is giving me the fear , I’m sure that’s just the novelty of me pressing buttons and trying things 😂

I’m happy to get the more budget friendly SE right now as I’m in the market for the next iPhone next month and I hear it could cost more than usual (ffs )

Just noted the WhatsApp thing which is a bit annoying !

I still think the Fitbit Versa is a reliable lil one if you don’t expect to do a lot with it

I use whatsapp all the time and hadn't noticed this, I just check the messages on my watch if my phone's not handy or I'm busy and if I want to do anything other than a very simple reply just get my phone out.

ElleEmDee · 30/08/2021 13:54

Make sure background app refresh is off- that drains battery quicker if it’s in (mine was on by default when it got it)

Lakeshore6 · 31/08/2021 22:42

I’ve managed to only use roughly 50% per day - i probably could sleep with it on but it seems pretty pointless. I’m glad I gave it a chance, its certainly been handy and Siri is a great help

OP posts:
MadeForThis · 08/10/2021 11:13

If I don't need it for fitness etc is it just a watch that show me iPhone notifications? I imagined it did more - like a mini iPhone I guess.
