I'm in my early 50s and just can't find anything I want to listen to. Radio 4 seems depressing (tho really it's just I can't cope with news/current affairs any more!) radio 1 and 2 dont do it for me, radio 6 I find a bit too out there....I just don't know what to listen to any more. I used to be fairly broad minded in terms of musical tastes, having had all manner of phases, from rock to heavy metal to folk to blues to indy to dance to classical, to the stuff my teenagers listen to. Maybe thats my problem, I don't have a genre! I know there are all manner of radio stations out there that I could access with my Alexa, but I just don't know what or where to start. Can anyone inspire me by sharing what stations work for them?? Thanks!

@NeedToKnow101

My top 6 Music DJs (for music) are: Craig Charles ❤️, the Blessed Madonna, Tom Robinson, Cerys Matthews, Guy Garvey, and Giles Peterson when he's not too esoteric. Iggy Pop is great, as is whssime

Oops.. continuing radio 6 theme.. in the week I love whathisname more for his humour than his show.. funny Northern DJ. I love them all tbh, even the ones whose music I don't particularly like. And Peaky Blinders actor has a lovely voice and taste in music when he's on it. Im banging on sorry 😂

I tend to ask Alexa for whatever genre I feel like at that moment... classical, rock, decades, rock, metal etc.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 28/08/2021 18:52

I listen to a few of the above but often switch over to Times Radio which is news and affairs but with presenters that laugh a lot!

Centreforce is great for old house and acid house bangers... nostalgic dance around the kitchen while cleaning music for ex-ravers.

Triple j or triple m via internet.

IndigoApple · 28/08/2021 18:56

@cungryhow

BBC 6 music for me, agree, find the shows you like and stick Absolute on for the ones you don’t.
This is exactly what I’ve done since WFH
altforvarmt · 28/08/2021 18:57

I like Scala Radio for chilling. It has lots of film soundtracks, plus classical or orchestral versions of contemporary music.

KateTheEighth · 28/08/2021 19:06

I'm a fan of Times radio

No music but lots of chat

Enough news to keep you informed and lots of other interesting stuff

LavendulaAngustifolia · 28/08/2021 19:08

BBC World service is quite interesting at times. It's a bit more talky talky but not as depressing as R4

OrangeBananaFish · 28/08/2021 19:09

My radio alarm at home is set to Greatest Hits. In the car its either Radio 2 or the local Bauer media station.

Mostly though I stick on spotify. I only really have the radio on in the car if someone else is in it with me.

JennieLee · 28/08/2021 19:13

Jazz FM.

PennineWayinSlingbacks · 28/08/2021 19:17

Cerys Matthews on 6 on Sunday morning is fantastic!

spotcheck · 28/08/2021 19:48

Is Sean Keavney still on Radio6? He is fab.

Radio X?!

CoffeeWithCheese · 28/08/2021 19:52

Absolute 90s on the digital radio for me, Gem 106 in the car.

Poocalypso · 28/08/2021 20:04

www.fip.fr/
This is the best! French. Soothing. Eclectic. Try it please :) you'll never go back and explore genres and find loafs of new faves.

Mardycustard123 · 28/08/2021 20:18
  1. Greatest Hits Radio
  2. Love 80s Liverpool/Manchester

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/08/2021 20:31

FIP on the internet. It’s a French station and really eclectic. I started listening to it in Paris and just carried on!

MrsSchadenfreude · 28/08/2021 20:32

Just seen that @Poocalypso got there before me!

world service
Planet Rock
podcasts like The Infinite Monkey cage, The curious cases of Rutherford and fry, Science hour

Catname · 28/08/2021 20:45

Radio Paradise. No genre - themes perhaps and extremely varied. There is very little talking.

Blueuggboots · 28/08/2021 20:45

Greatest hits radio is great!
