I am mid 50s. Opera & Country are the only music genres I can't stomach.
BBC World Service for news & analysis. It's great to get the global perspectives.
R5Live is better than R4 for chat or news analysis, imho, than R4. Sport & traffic I can tolerate inbetween.
R3 can be better for culture than R4 often, too.
I like the fact that R6 is often "weird". That it puts me out of my comfort zone. ditto BBC Asian.
Try local BBC radio. For instance, Radio Norfolk on a Friday night has local Indie bands on. Obviously they cover local stories nobody else would, too.
In general, I hate music-station DJs prattling on. Paul O'Grady or Lisa Tarbuck can do one. FFS, I want good music not hyperactive natter. However, there's a pair of presenters on R6 who do whirlwind biographical summaries of artists inbetween songs, this is cool, I always learn something from them.
Classic FM is good.
Just to hear different tones & gossip about other places, try the regional radio stations, like BBC Gaelic or Northern Ireland. I can sometimes get a bit of Dutch radio -- I like listening to rhythms of other languages.
