It's for a big family gathering to celebrate a golden wedding anniversary and it has to take place in the late May / early June school holiday next year as this is the only time that works for everyone. Due to the wide range of locations that everyone lives in, we're looking at Scotland and the whole of the North of England. One of the guests is a wheelchair user and will need a downstairs accessible room with a fully accessible bath / shower room. We have looked at loads of places but this is a pretty tall order and we're not having much luck finding anywhere suitable with availability! Does anyone know of anywhere that might fit the bill?

Could it be two adjacent properties?

This looks lovely but can’t figure out how to check availability, and you’ve probably already seen it

I stayed in this place a few years ago with friends. It was specially kitted out for disabled people and had a special large bedroom/ bathroom which were particularly disabled friendly

Ooh that looks gorgeous but as far as I can work out I think it wouldn't quite fit us all in, unless I've misunderstood the listing! Definitely worth a call though just to check, thank you Smile

Sorry got cut off. Everything was on the level with plenty of space and Seahouses is nice for families and young kids. Bamburgh is just up the coast and is fab too.

There are several Facebook groups- such as Book direct with the owner- have a look on there.

This is in Melrose on the borders, accessible has equipment including hoists etc?

FelicityBeedle · 27/08/2021 21:32

Oops I misread that first one as 5 bed with extra beds available. Sorry!

MichelleScarn · 27/08/2021 21:32

Would be over separate properties though

WordInYourShellLike · 27/08/2021 21:33

Thank you everyone, just going through the suggestions now. Totally forgot to say we were hoping for a week but some places look like they would cost over £7000 for that long so maybe that's unrealistic! I guess a couple of years ago it would have been less than half that...

Although it doesn't list itself as such, I'm sure this property www.cottages.com/cottages/halls-bank-cottages-berwyn-bank-15825?start=20-05-2022 has accessible ground floor bathrooms as they're done as wet rooms and level with the bedrooms. Might be worth checking with the owners to confirm.

The property itself is fine if not luxurious- you may wish to book more than one of the cottages ( there are smaller ones as well) for a bit more space.

Beautiful location around there too

Crieff hydro has an accessible house that sleeps maybe 10 ( might be 8) and other houses next door. Is nice place to celebrate.

No worries, it was a bit hard to work out from the blurb!

Meant to say has ensuiite accessible room downstairs, hoist and kitchen living room all well set out so wheelchair users can get around / sit under dining table, get into kitchen unit and sit as part of the group in the lounge area ( often not thought about when planning disabled access).

This one looks awesome and so much cheaper but no availability! Sad I'm going to check out that area though as it might have something else suitable, thanks Snookie

Calvert Trust at Kielder I’m Northumberland has availability in 2 lodges on 30th May. Kielder is lovely and the lodges are fully accessible.

Here’s the link, hopefully

Lagganlife.co.uk have snugs and I'm certain they have disabled facilities in some of them. I have stayed in one and they are really lovely. It's not all in one building but they are close together and views are stunning!

Impatientwino · 27/08/2021 22:10

I came on to suggest Bainland too - we stayed last May and friends stayed in one of their massive lodges that sleeps about 25 but there were only 14 of them.

Two were a disabled couple and while over there for dinner one night I noticed there are plenty of bedrooms and bathrooms downstairs with a wet room style bathroom I saw.

It was called Stamford I think. Had two massive swim spa things and garden and loads of space plus a pool table! I think they paid circa £3K

autumnboys · 27/08/2021 22:14

We have stayed here several times. It’s mid-Wales, so not the area you’re looking for, but worth considering.
