It's not even September yet!

Even if it is the beginning of the August Bank Holiday weekend...

The thermostat of my heating is set at 20c.

This morning I was woken by the sound of the radiators creaking on!
The house is now warm & snug which is how I like it but still... I'm in the South East which is usually quite mild!

Has anyone else's heating come on?

(The heating came on this time last year as the weather was torrential rain but it's due to be dry, cloudy with occasional sun this weekend).

I'm spending my days wrapped in a blanket, I'm not impressed with this cold weather. Thought they promised another heat wave?!

QuestionableMouse · 27/08/2021 11:02

Been pretty chilly here (County Durham) for the last couple of days. Car said it was down to 14°c yesterday tea time, with some lovely drizzle.

ThanksIGotItInMorrisons · 27/08/2021 11:05

No not yet. And I’m in Scotland. Had a few chilly nights but not put heating on. I try to leave it as late as I possibly can but now the kids have started to turn the thermostat up to 36 at the first sign of a chill I’m not sure it will last much longer.

soughsigh · 27/08/2021 11:06

I'm 8 months pregnant and still having a heatwave in Scotland. These temperatures can fuck off now. I wish it was cold enough for the heating to come on, we are still sleeping with the windows wide open.

DiscoDown21 · 27/08/2021 11:08

Mines set to 18 hasn’t been in since early May. Our house is currently 21 degrees.

Luvacuppatea · 27/08/2021 11:09

Mine is set at 19 and the heating has come on a few times recently. In the South East. This has to be up there as one of the most miserable summers (regarding weather) that I can remember ☹️

grapewine · 27/08/2021 11:15

I'm not trying to be competitive, personally. I can't afford to put the heating on sooner. It's a fact of my life.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 27/08/2021 11:20

I want mine on but it's broken! Can't wait for next week when it will hopefully be fixed. Found myself putting the portable heater on the other day. Last night I was in full long sleeve and trousers pj's with blanket on.

Odisia · 27/08/2021 11:28

I'm in London. It's grey and overcast and currently 18 degrees. August here has been grim, grey and depressing.

Wandawide · 27/08/2021 12:20

@HeronLanyon and @AlmostSummer21
I am on Laptop Microsoft stuff, thanks for trying I shall have to Google it myself. I need to find the way to get Euro sign up, my 4 has $ and Euro.
Have a good day and keep warm/cool as appropriate.

TheChosenTwo · 27/08/2021 12:36

Mine is set to come on when it drops below 22. Our house is really well insulated and it hasn’t come on yet, but I like a warm house and hate being cold.
I know September is round the corner though because last night I discovered the biggest spider in the world lurking at the bottom of the stairs last night, obviously waiting for me to bugger off to bed so he could march in and put what it wanted on tv Shock

TheQueef · 27/08/2021 13:49

I'm from Yorkshire so I'm being competitive on thermostat and cheapness and hardiness/ layer wearing.

Just thought I'd mention that.

Hemingwaycat · 27/08/2021 15:14

Yes, mine shocked me by coming on yesterday. It’s set to 18 degrees for Heaven’s sake.

gogohm · 27/08/2021 19:09

My is turned off manually because the younger residents seem to think shirts and crop tops are the only way to lounge around the house and crank the thermostat up to accommodate their clothing choices (23+) - despite studying for degrees in various subjects they seem incapable of switching the heating on manually thankfully and keep telling me the thermostat isn't working Grin

MaintainingPositivity · 27/08/2021 20:08

20 degrees eeee by gum!

Yes, I'm a hardy Yorkshire lass, chuck on a jumper - no heating here until October at the earliest!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 27/08/2021 20:15

I triggered ours on yesterday for an hour, but that was only the second time since early June.

LowlandLucky · 27/08/2021 20:25

Here in S,W Scotland it was 26 degrees 2 days ago. The heating will be turned on next week when the engineer does the annual check then will go off until the 1st of November.

QuestionableMouse · 27/08/2021 20:32

Hasn't been above 14c all day here and felt distinctly chilly earlier when I was outside.

MrsDThomas · 27/08/2021 20:44

Heating?!

Mine is off. Can’t remember when it was last on.

EileenGC · 27/08/2021 21:07

It won't stop raining where I live (northern Germany, where the weather at the end of August is normally quite good). It just won't stop.

Max temperatures are 16º, I'm freezing and tried to put the heating on but of course it's still turned off for the whole building (because who needs heating in August??) so I'm here with an extra blanket and a hot cup of peppermint tea hoping I warm up before going to bed.

Off to the south of Europe next week and I can't wait. It's August, I shouldn't be needing extra blankets and an October coat to go out.

Caspianberg · 31/08/2021 07:01

It’s really cold here also, And usually it’s 30+ all summer. My phone pictures tell me that this time last year Ds was 3 months old and in just a nappy in heat. Today it’s 7 degrees, and in warm clothing.
Even dh said he couldn’t get warm last night.
We are all out of oil, delivery due this week.
