Even if it is the beginning of the August Bank Holiday weekend...

The thermostat of my heating is set at 20c.

This morning I was woken by the sound of the radiators creaking on!
The house is now warm & snug which is how I like it but still... I'm in the South East which is usually quite mild!

Has anyone else's heating come on?

(The heating came on this time last year as the weather was torrential rain but it's due to be dry, cloudy with occasional sun this weekend).

We're on holiday in the SW and it's gorgeous here too.

FedNlanders · 27/08/2021 08:52

Mines off Completely now no matter the temp! I've still got the fan on.

Blitzes · 27/08/2021 08:56

20?! Bloody hell ours comes on at 16 but perfect temp for me on our house is about 17/18 🤌🏻

Parky04 · 27/08/2021 08:59

Mine is off and won't be put on until at least November! Anyone who is cold can put on a jumper!

EmpressSuiko · 27/08/2021 09:12

I don’t understand how so many people can be comfortable at 16-18 degrees, mine is set at 23! Our house is very old though so it doesn’t actually reach that, we may get it up to 20 but that’s not warm enough for me!
From September to March I wear so many layers as well as needing the heating/fire on! 🥶

Ah the annual Mumsnet competitive thermostat competition is back on I see
It's almost touching in its regularity
I live in an igloo
Naked
And have ice blaster fans set at me at all times to ensure I am perpetually hypothermic
My heating would only switch on in the event of a fourth ice age and then only if everyone within a thousand miles is wearing a jumper
My thermostat is set to -3000000000000000
Radiators are for wimps
Do I win?

Colder weather always means a competitive heating thread along with the traditional orange and chocolate coin only for Christmas or children will be spoilt for ever!

I finished a late shift last night and noticed a definite chill in the air. We have no central heating so the season of constant fire tending looms large.

HardStaringBearFromDarkestPeru · 27/08/2021 09:53

I was out for a walk yesterday in jeans, T-shirt & hoodie & didn't feel cold. I even had some windows open in the morning as I love to air the house. It felt ok inside last night yet bloody cold this morning.
I think it's just one of those days when it'll be warmer outside than inside - the sun is coming out now.

I grew up with coal-fired then oil-fired central heating that wasn't lit until October-November. It was freezing & I remember ice on the inside of the windows every winter.
I vowed that once I had easy-to-start central heating such as gas or electric & was paying the bills myself, I would set the thermostat & if it was chilly, the heating would come on, regardless of date.

I feel the cold & as soon as the temperature drops I get out my thermal vests, long johns & tights which I will wear inside the house as well as outside.
Inside I have a hot water bottle at night & sometimes during the day stuffed up my jumper plus a warm blanket for when I'm sitting down.
People tell me I've lost weight each Spring but it's because I'm no longer wearing my thermals under my clothes... It's most noticeable in my jeans as long johns & tights bulk things up.
I'm not lounging around in T-shirts & shorts here - I do my best to keep warm with lots of layers.

To those of you currently with warm weather, especially those areas where you usually having shoddy weather whilst we bake in the South East....
Enjoy it whilst you can!!

I'm in The North.
My kitchen said 14 degrees this morning. I clicked my heating on for 10 minutes.
Says 18 now

tiredanddangerous · 27/08/2021 10:03

Im in the midlands with thermostat set to 18 and it hasn't come on yet.

Wandawide · 27/08/2021 10:09

In Bournemouth, cold night, greenhouse went down to 9 deg.
Shorts and t-shirt day time till evening.
(Btw anyone help, where is symbol for degrees?)

Palavah · 27/08/2021 10:12

@IceCreamAndCandyfloss

Mines been on too as it’s dropped below 21 already on a few occasions. Definitely feels colder and damper in the air.
Jeez, no wonder the ice caps are melting!
bunnytheegghunter · 27/08/2021 10:14

Mines off and the windows are all still open! It was a bit chilly first thing but is warming up now!

Depends on your device maybe? Mine I hold down the 0 and it's there!
HeronLanyon · 27/08/2021 10:20

wandawide great question. Found answer. Thanks ! °

AlmostSummer21 · 27/08/2021 10:27

I turn mine off over the summer as I have the windows and doors open all the time and I don't feel cold, even when the temperature really drops. Shutting the windows & doors it soon gets too warm.

It's chilly today (SE) but I'm still in shorts & t shirt. I hate being over heated.

I did put the heating on, on one chilly day, but only to check everything was working ok before all autumn rush to get someone in if it's not & to deal with it when it's not needed (if necessary)

It heats up here quickly so I just put it on when I feel I want to until winter when it's predictably cold then I set it to come on in the evening about an hour before I get home from work.

💁🏻‍♀️🍁

But it shouldn't be this chilly in august, no

FedNlanders · 27/08/2021 10:29

Why are people putting heating on at 21° or less?unless disabled or old.

randomsabreuse · 27/08/2021 10:31

Mini heatwave in Glasgow (kids back at school of course!). Been mid 20s most of this week, toasty warm once the sun burns through and still using an empty duvet cover in our (newish and quite warm) house...

dementedma · 27/08/2021 10:31

I have no idea what ours is set to, we just turn it on and off manually.
However as we are still enjoying sunny days and temps in the high teens and low 20’s - in SCOTLAND - it won’t be going on any time soon.

stepupandbecounted · 27/08/2021 10:32

day time it is beautiful here, evening yup heating is now on!! Aaaaahhhhhhhhh can't stand the thought of winter this year.

OneAugustNight · 27/08/2021 10:38

Cloudy here but boiling hot/humid and has been all summer (South Wales coast.)

AdmiralCain · 27/08/2021 10:43

If you try and touch the thermostat in my house before November I'll slap your hand away from it!

Daisyhoney · 27/08/2021 10:44

We don't switch ours on until October - we're in the south and our house still feels warm. We are still using our bedroom ceiling fans every night too. Wouldn't dream of putting the heating on in August and if it gets chilly we just put extra layers on.

FedNlanders · 27/08/2021 10:45

Surley it's warm enough just for extra layers still?
