Toasters. Why do they not have lids?

Just that really Grin

However clean your kitchen, there isn't really anything else I can think of that you just leave open and uncovered, never wash or clean (except for the occasional decrumbing) but still put food in.

I do quite often have recipe books on top of mine, but really just more for a surface for them to be, than as an intended lid

@spotcheck I think that could be the very same one my mil has 😂 I will take a photo next time I’m there.

I think the fact that no-one on earth has ever been ill/died from dusty toast means toaster covers are just not necessary.

StarDrawers · 16/08/2021 15:41

Now I'm scared of accidentally toasting a spider

Tablow · 16/08/2021 15:46

We buy tiger bread and you have to rotate it multiple times to get it toasted. I've never seen a toaster apart from one of those conveyer belt ones that would work properly to toast it all.

There’s a toaster cover crochet pattern on Ravelry if you want to make your own

Must be a safety thing. We had a toaster with a lid for a brief time when I was growing up. The casing was plastic. Someone accidentally pressed the plunger with the lid down one day and the lid melted.

My dm had a cover for the toaster, she nearly set the house on fire the day she put the toaster on then absent mindedly put the cover on...

Thankfully she smelt burning before it caught fire
