I am determined to stick to y meal plan this week. I need to be more frugal.

Tonight - Poached chicken with vegetables (I am trying a proper poule au pot).

Tomorrow- Freezer surprise (which I think will mean salmon and veg for me and pizza for the DCs)

Tuesday - Tuna fishcakes with peas and honey sesame carrots

Wednesday - corn chowder

Thursday- freezer surprise

Friday - Roast beef with all trimmings.

I am also planning on buying mini marshmallows and glace cherries and squirty cream to make ice cream banana sundaes.

mmmmmm.

Everyone else's plans always make me feel like mine are very simple!

Today - roast chicken and couscous salad

Monday - beef mince stir fry

Tuesday - leek and bacon pasta

Wednesday - out for lunch so sandwiches or pot noodles for dinner!

Thursday - leftover chicken curry

Friday - pizza

Hellohah · 08/08/2021 20:18

Sunday - Chicken tray bake with mash
Monday - Chicken pasta bake
Tuesday - Risotto
Wednesday - Pasta & pesto
Thursday - Cottage Pie
Friday - Salad
Saturday - Seabass
Sunday - Burgers
Monday - Spaghetti and Meatballs

Gone to Monday as they only had massive packs of mince, so needed an extra meal

@MissyB1 they look so yummy!!

Ours turned out good - it’s always nice when a meal that’s been cobbled together works out well.

@Marmite27
Thanks for the info

Tonight was roasted sausages and onions with roast potatoes, broccoli, carrots, corn, Yorkshire puddings and gravy

Tomorrow we have DH family here for an afternoon tea style lunch so today I've made a carrot cake and tomorrow I'll make sausage rolls, sandwiches, scones and I've bought eclairs, little chocolate pots and shortbread. Oh and some fruit Grin If anyone is hungry in the evening they can have left overs!

Tuesday - slow cooker chicken curry and rice and poppadoms. Side of sag aloo style dish using left over roast potatoes from tonight.

Wednesday - peri peri spatchcock chicken with tomato and avocado salad

Thursday - a hodge podge of anything left in the fridge as we go away Friday!

I too love these threads! Getting inspiration from others meal plans is great!

Like a PP I need to go through my freezers (we have two) and use up lots of odds and ends. We have so many possible meals in there and would be nice to see the shopping bill go down a bit for a while!

Weenurse · 09/08/2021 10:04

@Hopeisallineed Marley Spoon is a meal delivery box.
Recipe card and ingredients for 2 meals.
Australian version of hello fresh, I think.

theneverendinglaundry · 09/08/2021 10:34

I do like these threads!

I meal plan every week. This week has gone like this:

  • roasted vegetable risotto
  • crispy chilli tofu and rice
  • pizza
  • mac and cheese
  • burgers and wedges
  • lentil bolognese
  • thai mushroom tofu broth

Husband and I are vegan, but I usually tweak meals for the kids and add meat to theirs.

BlueLobelia · 09/08/2021 14:59

loving the starter ideas thanks everyone! I really like 'grass soup' and the smoked salmon with horseradish cream. mm.

I ended up doing a tomato and avocado salad last night with some balsamic as the starter. It went down very well.

Today was 'freezer surprise' and I am now defrosting a beef stew. I will put them under pastry for a pie for the DCs and for me I will just have with sweet potato mash and peas. The Dcs will have peas and fries. I REALLY need to eat down my freezer. I tend to use it more as a storage system and things never come out again!

How do you do your crispy tofu @theneverendinglaundry ?

I LOVE tofu. My like tofu schnitzels with apple and horseradish sauce as a take on Viennese schniztels.

I like just nice bread, oil, balsamic vinegar and olives as a 'starter' although we only have a starter when people come round for dinner.

I LOVE tofu. My like tofu schnitzels with apple and horseradish sauce as a take on Viennese schniztels.

It was a Bosh recipe which, to be honest, I didn't really like! The sauce has orange juice in it and it was too orangey for me. But the tofu itself was good - I cut it up and coated it in oil and then cornflour, and then air fried it.

Thanks Marmite & bluelobelia :-)

Great thread! Giving me lots of ideas.

BlueLobelia · 10/08/2021 07:53

Thanks everyone! I am also getting loads of ideas (and thinking about getting an air fryer!).

I like the idea of 3 veg pasta with cheese. Endless combinations and if i blend the sauce I might even get DS2 to eat it!

Can I just say that I made Nando's spicy rice tonight for the first time and it was bloody lovely! Definitely recommend.

I'm decorating my house this week so I have less time for meal planning. I haven't put any thought into desserts. I went and picked some blackberries and apples yesterday and still have lots of strawberries and cherries from the garden. So probably lots of pies, crumbles and definitely some cherry muffins.

Today - fish tacos
Thur - I have some oyster mushrooms so will make Chinese clay pot rice.
Fri - we're having friends over so will make Japanese hotpot.
Sat - duck with hoisin sauce and pancakes
Sun - Vietnamese lemongrass beef summer rolls

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 11/08/2021 11:32

I love a menu thread. We are low tech and have a blackboard with the days of the week on it in the kitchen, but I do a sort of running two week plan on my phone.

This week’s menu:

Monday - chicken satay curry and rice
Tuesday - cheese and ham omelette with salad
Wednesday - roasted veg with grilled halloumi and pitas
Thursday - pea, pesto, and feta pasta
Friday - chicken fajitas
Saturday - supermarket Chinese “fakeaway” box
Sunday - spaghetti bolognese

Looks delicious! Thanks for the link, I am printing it off right now

theneverendinglaundry · 11/08/2021 14:45

Starting a new meal plan tonight.

  • Freezer lucky dip (vegan pie for me and DH, fish fingers for the kids, homemade mash)
  • Tofu Raisukaree (using a jar of Wagamama paste from the supermarket)
  • Lentil Ragu
  • Sausage and gnocchi bake
  • 'Meat'balls and spaghetti
  • Ramen
  • Chickpea burgers and potato wedges
BlueLobelia · 11/08/2021 16:54

I swapped my planned for sweetcorn chowder today for chicken and vegetable soup because I found chicken thighs in my last freezer rummage.

It feels a bit warm for soup, but if I deviate from the plan I will deviate from everything this week so i am determined!.....

This week ours has been is:
Sun - takeaway chicken
Mon - chicken tikka, veg curry, rice
Tues - pie, sweet potato mash and peas
Weds - egg, mash and beans (with Wurst for DH)
Thurs - ribs, potato waffles and coleslaw
Fri - mussels and baguette

aiming for easy meals after a family bereavement and trying to get back to work.

Hopeisallineed · 16/08/2021 09:50

I tried the butter chicken recipe some poster kindly linked. It was delicious and really easy ( and quick). My DH makes a curry, it takes him all day practically but think this was nicer.
