What are your go to sides and salads?

I have this vision of a heaving farmhouse table full of delicious dishes, some that I’ve whipped up that day and others leftover from previous meals, maybe served in beautiful dishes and home grown in my garden.

Actually that does sound like quite a lot of effort and washing up. But indulge me for a moment and give me your easy side dishes or salads for such a spread.

My current repertoire

  • roasted broccoli/asparagus with lemon/garlic/Parmesan
  • cauliflower cheese
  • roasted kale
  • beetroot and feta salad
  • roasted butternut squash with rocket, pomegranate seeds and goats cheese

I’d love a good lentil or chickpea recipe as often have a in in the cupboard I don’t know what to do with

Meera Sodha has some good recipes for chickpeas, dal etc. Roasted kale though? It's just a bit of cabbage in the oven. It's fine as far as it goes, I guess.

My go to is good quality tomatoes sliced up, with basil, torn mozzarella, olive oil & salt - takes seconds to make but looks pretty!

Old fashioned Waldorf. Torn salad leaves, walnut halves, pink lady apple slices dipped in lemon juice. Bread, brie and lemon dressing on the side. Yum.

Something simple please... tomatoes straight from the greenhouse, warmed from the sunshine, with salt and pepper and homemade bread to mop up the juicy goodness.

(And no coriander! Yeeeeuk. Some of us have a gene that makes it taste like soap, nothing worse than thinking it is flat leaf parsley and getting that taste that lingers...)

Joe wicks does an amazing giant couscous and carrot salad with halloumi, it's so good! Have a google for the recipe

Thanks again everyone I’m going through these now and making notes of some ideas

@midsomermurderess sorry you were offended by my roasted kale 😂
