How much does everyone spend on fuel?!

AwFeebs · 04/08/2021 16:30

I know it obviously depends on a lot of factors but I'm just trying to see if we're spending more than average.

We have a petrol car and live quite rurally. We can't get anywhere without the car. We also tend to short local journeys often.

I think we're spending around £200 a month in petrol.

TIA

Diesel. London.

Pre Covid £50 a month. 10 miles to work, come of days out and short trips in the local area.

Now, about £15 a month

imnotsure1 · 04/08/2021 17:45

About £60 a week on school runs, to the shops, days out etc. Range Rover, does well on the motorway but guzzles diesel in traffic.

LavendulaAngustifolia · 04/08/2021 17:46

We're rural but work from home so its weekend jaunts or trip to nearest shop about 20 miles away. About £60 diesel per month.

Commute is circa 25 miles a day.

I get 600 miles from a tank and it costs me around £80 to fill it. Diesel 4x4

Itsanewdah · 04/08/2021 17:50

£40, toyota yaris hybrid. we walk most places (if it takes 45 minnor less, we walk) and get shopping delivered once per week. 2 adults, 2 kids. one adult commutes by car (20 miles)

irresistibleoverwhelm · 04/08/2021 17:51

Probably about £30 per month - but I have a teeny super mini which is v efficient and don’t use it much - just pottering in town, school runs, shopping, day trips nearby etc.

Namechangeforthis88 · 04/08/2021 17:53

Blimey, I used to spend about £50 a week back in about 2007/8. I think prices were quite high at the time. But I did 100 miles a day for work. I kept the cost down by getting a more economical car and worked quite hard at improving the fuel efficiency of my driving. It does make a difference!

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 04/08/2021 17:53

Nissan Micra, about £40 fills the tank depending on petrol prices when I fill up. That will get me about 350-400 miles depending on if it's all city or motorway driving.

Normally that will last me more than a month as WFH and walk DD to school. This month we're driving to holiday club everyday so it will last about 2 weeks.

SpiesRUs · 04/08/2021 17:54

I've got an electric car. Out of curiosity I just logged into the app to check.

I spent the princely sum of £12.26 to do nearly 800 miles last month.

£100+ a week.

Nissan Navara, work miles plus dp lives 200 miles away.

SpnBaby1967 · 04/08/2021 17:57

DH spends around £100 on a normal month, if he has a lot of late shifts though so has to drive to work as no trains running at those times he'll use a half a tank each day. His tank fills at about £70.

Mine I fill up once a month, sometimes with a top up so anywhere from £80‐£120 a month. Wfh certainly helps there.

Saidtoomuch · 04/08/2021 17:58

An eye watering £300 pm during term time. A quarter of that when they aren't at school. Lockdown saved me a fortune. I've got a large 4x4 (necessary for business) but I keep toying with the idea of keeping the 4x4 at the business premises and using a little electric car as a run around.

DoorMatCat · 04/08/2021 17:59

As a rule I fill up my diesel car one per month. It costs about £70 give or take, depending on what the price of fuel is doing at the time. I get 650 miles out of one tank which is around about 56 litres when it's running on empty.

When DH was working (recently retired) it wasn't unusual for the combined fuel spend to be £300. He now has a £££car sitting on the driveway catching bird shit!

Also we have a little run around for the kids to use. Recently filled up £55 petrol and would expect to get 450miles out of that. Again that would be approx once monthly.

NotAnotherPushyMum · 04/08/2021 18:01

In a normal work month, where I do about 1000 miles, I fill it up £45ish every 4/5 days roughly. So about the same as you I guess.

Pegasusmail · 04/08/2021 18:04

I've a small car. Live rural and need car for everything. Approx 30 a week.

Chewbecca · 04/08/2021 18:05

Very little.

I wfh / commute by train in normal times. My car is diddy and costs about £37 to fill up and last me a couple of months usually.

My car is 6 years old with 12k on the clock. Thankfully the insurance is only just over £100 pay year too as I wouldn’t be without it!

cushioncovers · 04/08/2021 18:05

Do roughly 200 miles a week and spend around £70 a month on fuel

That's amazing!
Chasingsquirrels · 04/08/2021 18:19

Pre-covid, 1 tank a month, about £80.
Now, mostly working at home, 1 tank every 2 or 3 months.

Waveafterwaveslowlydrifting · 04/08/2021 18:21

£0

Electric hybrid car plus solar panels on the house roof. Never filled up my car in 4 months. Just plug it in when I get home

AbsolutelyPatsy · 04/08/2021 18:21

i had to wfh due to self isolating for 2 weeks, what a difference that made!

Berkeys · 04/08/2021 18:27

@Mirrorxx
