Seriously Sainsburys?

You honestly have no substitution for three different bottles of white wine in the whole huge shop? Really?

Ha I did wonder at first if this was their new luxury branding advertising campaign in the style of M&S's "This is not just ANY x,y,z......"

"Luxury gooey orgasmic chocolate torte with praline made from almonds and hazlenuts handpicked by Oompah Loompahs, accompanied by delicious freshly-whipped cream from ecstatic grass-fed and massaged Jersey cows - Seriously Sainsburys"

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 31/07/2021 10:47

all MrsSkylerWhite. no but if he was he would choose a different pinot grigio to sub the missing ones 🙄

@1990s

I'm really trying not to be a dick, but I can't imagine a situation where bottled water is ever necessary.

I didn't say it was necessary but I'd hazard a guess a large amount of items in peoples shopping aren't "necessary" but a choice to have Hmm

Sillysop92 · 31/07/2021 11:06

If they do run out of white wine in supermarkets (shudder at the thought) there is always Majestic, loads and loads of wine there!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 31/07/2021 11:12

Re bottled water, my dh used to work in the water sector, and once remarked that a litre of bottled water was 1000 times more expensive than what came out of our Thames Water tap.

Needless to say, we buy bottled only occasionally, like the other week when at Legoland with Gdcs on a stinking hot day, when our own supply had run out.

I noticed their ‘refill’ points too late, dammit.

Pinkandpink · 31/07/2021 11:13

I also find your husbands comment about a lazy picker rather rude.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 31/07/2021 11:31

It doesn’t necessarily come from your nearest store ... or any store at all. Sometimes it’s straight from the warehouse.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 31/07/2021 11:36

Well something wrong when a picker cant sub a white wine for another white wine

OP posts:
rantymcrantface66 · 31/07/2021 11:38

To be fair if it came from a warehouse or a larger city store it's even less likely they did t have any white wine at all, although even during the great loo roll shortage of 2020 even my tiny Sainsbury's local managed to supply me with wine of some description or other so I doubt any stores are totally out. The ship didn't fulfil the order despite substitutes being switch on. There isn't really a good excuse for that however hard you try to find one.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 31/07/2021 11:45

Thank you ranty, its never happened before and to be fair to sainsbos they are usually really good but when it comes-to being wineless, well thats a whole other ballgame ! Its Saturday, i like a wine on a Saturday 😁 and as i said in store there were plenty other white wines they could have subbed.

Crunchymum · 31/07/2021 11:54

Well my order (due this afternoon) disappeared last night. I couldn't amend it and my account didn't show any orders pending.

Got the email today to say it is coming (less the few bits I had wanted to add last night, but it wasn't anything important) and thankfully the wine we drink is in stock Wine

Formaldeheidi · 31/07/2021 12:04

I don’t know if you’ve been following any news at all but there’s massive issues in the supply chain of everything at the moment with products from the continent (white wine!) being affected the most.

I read an article from somebody that looks into all that sort thing (don’t ask me to link, it’s long gone in the wormhole of everything I read during the week) at beginning of the week predicting that the supply chain will have completely broken down in 3 weeks, should the lorry driver shortages and contact isolation rules continue.

clickychicky · 31/07/2021 12:08

I buy bottle water as we keep getting water supply issues.

As for the wine shortage. If you go in the supermarkets at the moment there are often whole sections empty .

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 31/07/2021 12:09

Yes have seen the news and have stated i understand the shortages BUT the point i am making is not about lack of stock it is about the fact that they said no suitable sub available when there is plenty of white wine on their shelves

OP posts:
Formaldeheidi · 31/07/2021 12:11

Isn’t white wine to personal to sub though? If I choose a whine I want it to be that one because another could taste awful to me. Maybe there weren’t any at the point of picking or there were no compatible ones.

36degrees · 31/07/2021 12:12

@1990s

We're buying more than usual for long distance car trips in the heat, camping, hotel stays, things that involve multiple days away from home.

Long car trip - once you've bought bottles of however much you need for this, and they are empty... they are refillable!

Service stations - have water taps
Camp sites - have water taps
Hotels - have water taps!

Sadly none of those dispense sparkling water, in my experience.
OverByYer · 31/07/2021 12:14

They’re really low on all white wine in my local Sainsbury’s. I ordered a box of Chardonnay last weekend and they substituted for one bottle.
Poppped in store a few days ago, no boxed wine and only 2 bottles of Sainsbury’s Chardonnay and low stick on most varieties.
Loads of red though

OverByYer · 31/07/2021 12:15

Also I wouldn’t want Chardonnay to be substituted for Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon blanc

DrFoxtrot · 31/07/2021 12:16

There was absolutely no white wine in my local Co-op yesterday so not impossible that there was nothing to substitute it with.

rantymcrantface66 · 31/07/2021 12:18

@OverByYer

Also I wouldn’t want Chardonnay to be substituted for Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon blanc
I'd take it though, everyone is different so it's better they give you the option so you could refuse rather than just assume you didn't want it despite you saying you DO want subs. Compared to all the crazy subs they do come up with Chardonnay for Pinot is perfectly normal
clickychicky · 31/07/2021 12:18

no suitable sub available when there is plenty of white wine on their shelves is there though?

And maybe they only sub certain types of wine with each other as they know it all tastes different. Did you write in the sub box "any white wine"?

At least you didn't end up with 3 bottles of white wine vinegar.

WTFUterus · 31/07/2021 12:21

This happened to us the other week, no dog food in the entire store apparently

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 31/07/2021 12:24

Yes been in store and there are about six other types of pinot and loads of other white wine. If i didnt want a sub i would have ticked the box and if it was subbed with one i didnt fancy i would have the option of sending it straight back for refund, its the whole no subs available that riled me.

OP posts:
rantymcrantface66 · 31/07/2021 12:24

They'll sub a coconut for coconut shampoo but you think they'll think carefully about which wines pair together? Stop making excuses 😆. A pp down thread got a bottle of pouilly fume in place of her house sauv so not buying that one either.

ilovesooty · 31/07/2021 12:24

We're only seeing the beginning of it. The covid situation is exacerbating the problem of course.

Perhaps those who scoffed at 'Project Fear' are starting to wake up.
