You honestly have no substitution for three different bottles of white wine in the whole huge shop? Really?

So a quick run to the store has shown you are all correct, many empty shelves but there were several other pinot grigios in stock so i am justified in my moan 😁 i bought a couple and some ice cream so all is well in my world, would not have minded a sub for a pouilly fume though like TheDogsMother

I am also mystified by people buying bottled water. It seems to incredibly old fashioned/retro. And unnecessary and a waste of money.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 31/07/2021 10:00

And on another note, when did cornettos get their little plastic sombrero hats instead of the cardboard lid?

@FloofyCushion

Why are you all buying bottled water? I'm not being goady, I'm genuinely curious. I've been suspicious of my tap water for a while now but feel guilty buying the extra plastic.
We're buying more than usual for long distance car trips in the heat, camping, hotel stays, things that involve multiple days away from home. We could use every refillable bottle and flask in the house but it's one more thing to have to worry about leaving behind, checking that everyone has theirs before we move on, cleaning regularly etc.
StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 31/07/2021 10:01

I admit to buying sparkling water because i like cold fizzy drinks and even i cannot drink that much prossecco.

The tap water where I live is not particularly pleasant, often cloudy and even though we use a filter jug it does taste different to bottled.

Sainsbury’s online picker here! Shopping starts at 4am and lasts until around 10am at the same time shelves are being restocked. Assuming you just got your online order it means your shopping would have been one of the first to be picked and so it’s plausible that the wine was not available/had not been restocked when your order was picked but is now available as it will have been restocked. Also plausible that it just wasn’t available due to the extreme shortages in delivery’s at the moment- bleach as someone mentioned, drinks, pasta and crisp/cereals have all been effected recently
Not plausible that a fairly large Sainsbury’s had run out of all white wine though. Not in a million years.
MrsSkylerWhite · 31/07/2021 10:14

Has your husband worked as a picker? Maybe he should for a while, might open his entitled eyes. Rude.

Thewiseoneincognito · 31/07/2021 10:15

If you live near to beauty spots or coastal areas where a lot of camping takes place this is probably a major contributor to the bottled water demand. When we camp we get through 3-4 2 litre bottles per day.

Big supply chain issues all over the country. Yay for Brexit, driver shortages and Covid. This will get worse.

hiredandsqueak · 31/07/2021 10:20

I didn't get a substitute for a white sliced loaf last week. Seems inconceivable that there was no bread instore. Mind you I got a cockroach baked into one of the instore bakery rolls the same week so it's curbed my liking of bread now.

When you buy the soft cornetto ones I think. I gave my husband and son one yesterday...and I washed up the plastic.

Lots of things missing from our local sainsbury. I think it's a combination of lack of drivers, people in isolation and people/kids on holiday and providing snacks and drinks throughout the day

“ ha ha ha“

So he is a picker?

And Brexit. Not being solved anytime soon. Warnings were repeatedly given.
WeAreTheHeroes · 31/07/2021 10:31

I do click and collect and know that morning collections are usually picked before the day's delivery has arrived. This means that items missing from my shopping are often available in store if I nip in for them. I don't mind this as someone has done the rest of my shopping for me. The picking system might suggest the suitable substitute and if that then isn't available you won't get anything for that item. Annoying though it is, it's not as if you can't make a meal if the wine isn't there.

islaviolent · 31/07/2021 10:35

I was in Sainsbury's yesterday and noticed a lot of empty shelves .

I spoke to the lady at the checkout and she said that 60% of the delivery drivers
Had been pinged by NHS app and were isolating resulting in no deliveries. They are prioritising fresh stuff but other things are not being delivered . Now the rules have changed they are trying to catch up , but with the amount of shops now needing redeliveries it's going to take a while . She said she thinks it will take
a couple of weeks before they get back to normal service .

Sorry I don't believe for a second a large Sainsbury's had no white wine at all. I don't even believe the had no Pinot Grigio seeing they stock so many different ones. Fair enough a small co op might get depleted quickly but nope, not having it for Sainos, not plausible at all 😆. I too have seen some low stock on shelves (not wine thankfully) but it's not just a patch of an aisle like pasta or fizzy drinks either . They have entire aisles dedicated just to white wine
AuntieMarys · 31/07/2021 10:37

No House wine yesterday, tinned tomatoes or sweetcorn.

1990s · 31/07/2021 10:42

@dappledsunshine

No bottled water AT ALL in the entire store for my online shop today Hmm same thing happened last week too....

I'm really trying not to be a dick, but I can't imagine a situation where bottled water is ever necessary.

There is a tap!!!!

Rabblesthecat · 31/07/2021 10:43

The plastic sombrero on the cornetto are for the soft variety. Harder ice cream still have the cardboard

Rabblesthecat · 31/07/2021 10:44

Bottled water is necessary if you only like drinking it fizzy

1990s · 31/07/2021 10:45

We're buying more than usual for long distance car trips in the heat, camping, hotel stays, things that involve multiple days away from home.

Long car trip - once you've bought bottles of however much you need for this, and they are empty... they are refillable!

Service stations - have water taps
Camp sites - have water taps
Hotels - have water taps!

Noshowwithoutpunch · 31/07/2021 10:46

Your delivery may not have come from your nearest store so popping in to check is a waste of time tbh.
We have a Sainsbury 5mile away (and one around 15mile away) but I couldn't get to the store so I ordered online.
Chatting to the driver when it arrived I found out it had come from the store in the nearest big City which is almost 30mile away.

budgun · 31/07/2021 10:46

I'm really trying not to be a dick, but I can't imagine a situation where bottled water is ever necessary.

I have a child (well a teen now) who is autistic and only drinks bottled water. He doesn't drink juice at all, or milk, or tap water. He can tell the difference between the waters too. For as long as that's all he will drink, I shall continue to buy it.

There is a tap!!!!

An option, yes, it it's not for everyone.
