What did you do with your cot, pram and highchair once your children were too old?

Cot - I sold to a baby shop.
Pram- I gave to a family I was supporting through Home Start. The mum was really grateful but the next week it was outside full of rain water!
Highchair - gave to a friend who took the tray off and put it on the hot hob.
20 years later I still feel sad as I really loved them both and wanted someone else to love them equally.

What happened to yours?

Cot: in attic. Lent it to a friend but had it back once they were done with it.
Pram: eBay
High chair: attic.

MuchTooTired · 28/07/2021 22:02

Cot - the kids still have them in their room as a daybed/sofa type thing although I’ve been thinking of binning them as they don’t get used by them for anything other than as a climbing frame.

Pram - sold both on eBay to parents who had had kids close together. Both families who bought them were delighted as it was exactly what they’d wanted so I was pleased for them.

High chair - binned one lot and have listed the other two for sale on eBay.

I always find it quite emotional getting rid of the baby bits as it’s the end of an era and a stage I won’t experience again as we’re not having any more.

YoBeaches · 28/07/2021 22:05

Hmm, the cot will go to the tip as it's done 3 of my sister kids before we had it. It's broken on one of the sides but she's in it toddler bed style now but worn be save to hand on and to be fair it's done well to get this far!

The pram I will try to sell as I will the high chair. I've tried to recycle as much as I can. The money I've made back all goes into dds bank account. Some other bits went to the women's shelter, and I befriended a local mum who I hand good quality clothes to and she brings books or something else
In return.

I know it would Be nice to keep Stuff and reminisce but I'm drawn to cycling the last 'old' thing into something new for her. It's like a project!

Cot - can't bear to send it anywhere so it's in pieces behind my chest of drawers. Mattress is still around too, a friend made hers into a reading cushion/den which I thought was a lovely idea but it'll take me another four years to sort one out for me

Pram - was keeping it for my sister but don't know if she'll ever need it.

High chair - less emotional about that tbh. Might put it up on a really nice hippy parenting group near us, see if anyone wants it

EcoCustard · 28/07/2021 22:07

Cot- barely used and put on local free cycle page on Facebook.

High chair went to Ds’s nursery and is well used.
Push chair served 4 kids and was a bit battered, I took it to the tip last week.
I let out a little joyous yell went that went, end of an era and the start of new one. Grin

PaperMonster · 28/07/2021 22:07

Cot - still have the crib as it’s a family one, but I sold the cot.
Pram - returned to SIL, barely used it so she passed it on to someone else.
High chair - still in use as it’s a Tripp Trapp

wendz86 · 28/07/2021 22:08

Cot - sold .
Pushchair - sold
High chair - gave to my sister and is still being used by my nephew now . Been used by all 4 of our kids between us .

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/07/2021 22:09

Cot... sold to DHs cousin. Now on its fourth baby.

Pram... went to dog rehabilation charity where it was used to teach the rescue dogs how to walk alongside prams and not be scared of them (these were dogs who had been abused)

Highchair... currently at PILs house for visiting babies (few babies in the extended family right now)

Stuff is regularly shuffled around in DHs family to match children's needs.

Theunamedcat · 28/07/2021 22:11

Freegle for all I think I wasn't really attached to it in the end my youngest hated the high chair so I used a booster seat I was glad to see the end of the cot after he threw himself out of it and the pushchair was huge and unwieldy because I couldn't drive I needed a large buggy to carry the shopping I dont think I thought twice about getting rid

DelurkingAJ · 28/07/2021 22:12

Cot now with DBIL
Pram in garage more or less dead as second hand when we got it
High chair with DBIL

MrsMillhouse · 28/07/2021 22:12

Cot- never bloody used!!! DS slept in next to me crib and then slept in with us. Gave to my close friend as she was actually looking to buy the same set anyway.

Pram: gave to an acquaintance via Facebook. It was very well used (I walked 5 miles a day easily every day I was on mat leave)

High chair: sold on Facebook, along with a pile of other things.

If I did it all again I would have bought less and bought more second hand to be honest

NoYOUbekind · 28/07/2021 22:13

Cot - I bought a cot bed as I knew I was only having one DC. Freecycled it when DS grew out of the bed.

Pram - sold the first one cos it was too heavy. Replacement one was absolutely shagged by the time we were finished with it, I walked everywhere with DS so was still taking it out with us for the end of the trip out or whatever when he was 3. It went to the tip.

High chair - got from a friend, passed onto a friend.

IHaveBrilloHair · 28/07/2021 22:13

Gave them away.

cariadlet · 28/07/2021 22:14

Gave them all away on Freecycle.

Babdoc · 28/07/2021 22:15

In the attic in case I ever get grandkids. But my DDs are in their 30’s and not at all keen, and meanwhile the mice have chewed the stuffing out of the pram upholstery… Grin

elQuintoConyo · 28/07/2021 22:15

Cot - sold still in box! (See also playpen).
High chair - charity shop, it was only an Antilop.
Pushchair - chucked, it was busted to fuck!

I was happy to see the back of all of them tbh.

Agadorsparticus · 28/07/2021 22:18

The cot went to the tip after 2 DCs and it was falling apart as it was second hand when we got it. The high chair and pushchair, I can't remember actually, the high chair was old and second hand and the push chair was cheap and clunky. Probably the tip knowing DH, he doesn't keep anything.

Nowadays we would FB it as we're finding it so useful for our impending move. Even for a few £ giving away to someone who'd use it rather than bin it.

MegaClutterSlut · 28/07/2021 22:20

Cot and pram both binned as they were battered. High chair I gave to db and sil

234Pepperplant · 28/07/2021 22:20

Cot, high chair, moses basket, car seats, clothes, big toys, bouncy chairs etc etc - all given away to friends, colleagues or friends of friends as soon as they were done with. Was quite nice to see clothes my children had worn, toys they’d had etc popping up from time to time on other children in our social circle - one lovely pair of dungarees made it round at least three other boys!

Kept the pushchair/pram until it broke when youngest child was 4 (didn’t use it often by then but it was great on days out), at which point it went in a skip at the local dump. It did seven years good service so no complaints.

Wasn’t the slightest emotional about any of it, it’s just stuff that’s otherwise cluttering up my house when someone else could use it. I was never sentimentally attached to eg pram or cot and I didn’t spend ages choosing fancy ones, they were just practical necessary items not really all that different than an ironing board. I get sentimental about photos, smells, letters and all sorts of things, but not physical items.

NameChange30 · 28/07/2021 22:27

Cot bed - will use as a toddler bed until DC2 outgrows it and moves into a single bed. At that point will sell it or give it away.

Pushchair - currently trying to sell old one but not much luck so will have to give it away. Will sell the ones we are still using.

Highchair - 2 x Tripp trap chairs which we will keep for years. When we've finished with the baby set I will sell or donate it.

I have already given or sold a lot of the baby stuff we're no longer using (sleepyhead, snuzpod, bouncer chair, bath seat, cot top changer, etc etc). I find it very satisfying to get rid of all the stuff that we've had to store for so long! (Keep after DC1 as I knew I wanted DC2.)

I did get emotional when I sorted through the clothes though. Always do.

meow1989 · 28/07/2021 22:27

Side sleeper cot - sold
Pram (and subsequent buggy) - sold
High chair - trying to sell
Cot - currently dh still using as a bed but we are due to move next month and will buy him a proper bed. Cot will go to mums for dsis if/when she needs it.

SemiFeralDalek · 28/07/2021 22:32

It's all in the middle bedroom at my mum's house. It was supposed to be in use now but I can't bear to look at it never mind get rid of it.

MondeoFan · 28/07/2021 22:33

Pram I bought second hand so I sold it on as second hand (well third hand really) it was a high quality pram and very popular
Cot sold on Facebook marketplace
High chair sold at boot sale

Pram which converted into pushchair - Was secondhand and old when we got it. It broke around the time ds was outgrowing it anyway. Used it until it broke, and recycled parts. I loved that pushchair.

Cot - Dh turned it into a toy box.

Highchair - This ended up in the charity shop. I bought it secondhand myself. I didn't feel the same emotional attachment to the highchair as I did to the cot and pushchair, as ds didn't use it often.
