What did you do with your cot, pram and highchair once your children were too old?

Cot - I sold to a baby shop.
Pram- I gave to a family I was supporting through Home Start. The mum was really grateful but the next week it was outside full of rain water!
Highchair - gave to a friend who took the tray off and put it on the hot hob.
20 years later I still feel sad as I really loved them both and wanted someone else to love them equally.

What happened to yours?

Gave them all away to friends or charity. I did sell the double buggy but only got £10 for it. For that amount I'd rather give it away.

@Babdoc, I’ve rebought some stuff for my grandchildren, my 1980’s pram and unwieldy buggy went to the charity shop, the cot and high chair to my sister. They would have looked quite out of place now in my tiny house. I’ve got a travel cot, chair thing that straps onto a dining chair, a fold up buggy in the boot of the car and a few boxes of toys. It’s the favourite toys ie the fisher price stuff which has been most useful to keep.

Gave them to a women's refuge.

Cot - barely used as baby ended up bed sharing with me. Now reconfigured into a log store.
Buggy/Pram - sold in three separate lots on Facebook. Bought it for a great price in as-new condition Got about half my purchase price after five years of almost daily woodland and beach walks.

Travel fold buggy - my favourite baby purchase was a buggy that folded small enough to stow under train seats/carry in a back pack. Used frequently for four years and sold on Facebook for two thirds of purchase price.

High Chair - My mum took one for when mine and my brothers kids visit. One still in my garage for friends visiting. Both were second hand IKEA ones.

I'm not sure if I'll have one more or not so I'm keeping it all for now...if not I'll hopefully give them to my DBro and his girlfriend in a few years (if they have DC and want my old stuff!), if not - donate I guess.

Cot - pass it on group on Facebook. Pushchair - gave to community center to pass on were needed.
Highchair - tip, but we were it's 3rd owners so it wasn't good for much else.

Cots - sold
Pushchair - still in the garage! The seats are worn out and ripped so can't be passed on. I need to get round to taking the frame to the scrap metal place.
High chairs - sold

Cot - tried to sell but nobody wanted it so it went to the tip.
Buggy - was a hand me down and too knackered so went to the tip (but sold several slings). The second hand one we moved on to went to a refugee charity though.
High chair - was using one as a chair at the table till DD turned 7, then, you guessed it... Tip.

The cot went to the tip as it had through about 15 kids ( not all mine!) And was falling apart.

I've had about 10 prams so all sold except one to the tip.

Hoghchairs given away.

I did keep a crib in case I ever have grandchildren but after four kids, most of the big bits had seen better days and not new to start with.

Cot - given to DB for his new baby.
Highchair and two pushchairs both totalled so thrown out (had been through two rather ebullient kids)

Knittingnanny

I had the gb pockit, John Lewis sold it at the time, but that was a few years ago. It was brilliant, really strong for it’s size. I used it on long train journeys with lots of changes and meant I could push toddler DD on and off then fold it. Think new versions are even better and other manufacturers do similar now.

kept everything

I also kept the playpen, small crib, baby bath, travel cot & travel highchair, huge wooden train set and massive boxes of Duplo.

we have 7 kids so chances are we'll need them eventually for grandkids.
if they are still in good condition by then that will save a lot of money

The high chair and buggy are in the loft as they may be useful to pull down on occasions and are compact and easy reassmble. I recently used the buggy as a trolley for shifting bulky items a short distance that wasn't worth driving. The IKEA highchair hasn't been used, but is durable and easy enough to keep.

The rest of the equipment was sold on in a cheap bundle to a friend. I'd put it up for sale not knowing she was pregnant but bundled more items in for a lower price than my original starting point.

I sold everything. I'm not sentimental and hate hanging onto things once they've served their purpose.

Report
IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 29/07/2021 09:03

I wasn’t sentimental about large baby items either so I offered them to friends. I dislike second hand and know some people don’t like having being gifted second hand when they wanted to choose their own so it was an open offer with no obligation.

We saved smaller token items for memory boxes that were special.

Cot I gave to a neighbour who’s son & GF were expecting a baby.
Pram I sold for £50, it was an expensive pram, that was still in good condition
High chair was well used I think we dumped it.

I found the travel cot in a wardrobe in a bedroom we didn’t used when we moved 18 years later! That went to the dump too!

Knittingnanny, I’m still in the same house (coming up on 40 years here) and the attic is like a museum of childhood! I have all their books and many of their soft toys.
But I am furious with the mice, who not only defaced a vair vair naice Silver Cross pram, but chewed the beak off DD’s favourite stuffed penguin! Grin
