Everybody Loves Raymond

But why?
The man is an obnoxious oaf with a toxic family, who treats his wife with disdain and disrespect all the time. He doesn't pull his weight round the house and has a whiny voice.
Deborah needs to leave the bastard.

I still love watching it, and think the writing is amazing. Robert is my favourite, his deadpan face never fails to make me laugh.

Whiskyinajar · 21/07/2021 19:16

It’s an absolutely brilliant comedy. The writing is sublime and the actors are fabulous.
Stop getting too analytical about it all, it’s meant to be funny and you’re meant to see that he’s shallow and annoying,
It’s one of my go to series when I need to relax and laugh.

adrianmolesmole · 21/07/2021 19:19

I love and hate this programme, it's very funny, especially the brother. But it's also way too close to home, Ray's mother is so much like mine it's not funny - toxic, manipulative, over-emotional, judgemental., controlling .. we always run around after her eaten up with guilt while she acts up, centre of attention. Sometimes I just can't watch it, other times it's comforting that it's not just me! Confused

Hodessa · 21/07/2021 19:20

Oh I do love that show, I like watching the outtakes on YouTube.

Raymond is an utter brat and the series hasn't aged well has it, but his mother is truly toxic - reminds me of my DHs ex in the way she seeks to manipulate and control her children.

SeeYaBeYa · 21/07/2021 20:19

Agree that Frasier is fucking fantastic. David Hyde Pierce is a comic genius. Setting fire to the couch! They should have that episode on prescription.

But I do not understand Everyone Loves Raymond.

Thursa · 21/07/2021 21:06

From the beginning I have called it Everyone Does Not Love Raymond. He’s a useless, waste of space, child. I wanted to punch him in the face every time he dumped the kids on Marie and snuck off golfing. Debra deserves a sainthood!

Frasier is brilliant! What a cast, I love Niles and Roz. I’m curious to see what the new series will be like. No Martin of course, but I’d love to see Frasier with a couple of Eddie’s.

Mrsjayy · 21/07/2021 21:22

I didn't "get," Frazier first time round but now I love it and yes David Hyde pierce is genuis Niles is hilarious!

billy1966 · 21/07/2021 21:24

Fraiser and Seinfeld never get old.

Saw the episode about Festivus during the lockdown and it gave us such a laugh.

George's father, Gerry Stiller was just hilarious.

Puddycatfan · 21/07/2021 22:22

I can't watch it - it gives me the rage.

What a useless, whining twat. It's not cute, it's infuriating! (now I'm annoyed that I've annoyed myself thinking about it!)

Mrsjayy · 21/07/2021 22:23

Frasier * seems to get better with age where as I think everybody loves Raymond looks dated.

Alannawhorideslikeaman · 21/07/2021 22:28

Totally missing the point but the writer of ELR has a food show on netflix called Somebody Feed Phil and it's amazing.

Mrsjayy · 21/07/2021 22:31

Somebody Feed Phil and it's amazing.

My DD talks about that she loves it!

LizzieSiddal · 21/07/2021 22:34

We used to live down the lane from PIL. Let’s just say Dh watch this programme with mouths ajar, as there are quite a few similarities. We left and moved far away after 4 years, gosh knows why Debra stays.

TheDevils · 21/07/2021 22:39

I can't watch it - it gives me the rage.

Me too!

I also agree about Frasier and Seinfeld.
Seinfeld is one tv show I never, ever get bored of. Total genius.

HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 21/07/2021 22:45

My dad loved it, largely because Raymond was so awful. A lot of it wasn’t my cup of tea but there were some bits that made me absolutely howl with laughter - when Robert goes to the club, Raymond attempting step aerobics etc - and now, decades later, when my dad is no longer here, I love catching the odd few minutes of it now and again as it makes me feel so close to him.

Mrsmadevans · 21/07/2021 22:47

@lucysnowe2

The title is kind of ironic though. Such a classic! I love how toxic the whole family is. Later seasons only got better - love Amy and her mum!
Amy's family & her brother 'Miss Puss' that episode was fab!
SassenachWitch · 21/07/2021 22:50

@MarmaladeToastAndAMarmaladeCat

Same here, Marie is exactly like my MIL, personality & looks.

Whatwouldnanado · 21/07/2021 22:56

Frasier is brilliant, classic genius. Raymond is awful, but worth a watch for his caustic dad. Cheers has not aged well.

annie335 · 21/07/2021 22:57

Love ELR but Fraiser is my favourite.
Was sad to hear that one of the twin boys in ELR comited suicide 😢

ssd · 21/07/2021 22:59

This is such a funny show

MadisonAvenue · 21/07/2021 23:04

I love Everybody Loves Raymond, and Frasier is an absolute classic. I hate that it’s not on any of the streaming services and that Channel 4 don’t have it on catch up either.

Gertie75 · 21/07/2021 23:06

I really like it, yes he's a lazy man child but he does love his family and knows he's punching way above his weight with Deborah.
I love any of the scenes when Robert dances.

Mrsjayy · 21/07/2021 23:07

Amy's" brother "was in Schitt$ playing the exact same character it was really irritating.

Rizzoli123 · 21/07/2021 23:24

I have never liked comedy sitcoms. My husband watches it on channel 4 each morning. I leave the room. Fraiser is better but only by a 3rd of an inch

elp30 · 22/07/2021 00:53

@annie335

Love ELR but Fraiser is my favourite. Was sad to hear that one of the twin boys in ELR comited suicide 😢

That's deeply upsetting and sad.
The three kids were actual siblings and that is just simply heartbreaking for their entire family.
