Where do adults go to have their ears pierced?

Or anyone for that matter? The only place I now of locally is Claire's and I understand that's not recommended.

Can you even have your ears pierced atm, actually?

I had mine done in an independent jewellers shop when I was a teenager, but I don't think those kinds of places do it anymore? I took my earrings out when DC were babies and pulling at them and never put them back in. 20 years later the holes are well and truly healed, although you can still see where they were, and I have a new, sharp, short haircut that's crying out for some statement earrings.

Where do you go?

I go to a local tattoo and piercing parlour. I'm quite sure I look/am totally out of place there but the guy who does my piercings is absolutely sound, polite and friendly, despite the fact that he looks stereotypically terrifying and plays death metal very loudly when he is busy preparing his space before you are allowed in.

I've had six new piercings in various parts of my ears done by him in the past year or so and will be back for more asap. Many of these people are extremely skilled at what they do and consider it an art. I'm inclined to agree.

Just to chime in.
I took my dd to have her ears pierced yesterday. Went to our local piercing and tattoo place. People were charming and did a wonderful job with a needle. Almost painless. I'm definitely your average middle aged plump mum and they were super polite and professional. Don't judge a book by it's cover!

This has made me think. I was about to order self piercers to re do one in each ear. One is ok. The other is healed. I thought I could just click them and it would be done. I think I will try our local tattoo bloke.

I wouldn't go to Claire's. Tattoo parlours are good. I get mine done at Maria Tash in London

I go to a piercing/ tattoo place.
The thing to look for is if they insist on parents being present/ giving permission if a teenager goes for a piercing. It's a good indicator of a decent piercer.
Also, ask if the piercing jewellery is titanium.

Oh and some piercers can use freezing spray for certain piercings, and that they are licensed to do so is another good mark in my book.

Well every day is a school day, I thought the only way to get your ears pierced was with a gun!
Touch wood my Claire piercing is absolutely fine but I will certainly look around for my next ones.

Took my daughter recently to a proper piercing place. She only uses titanium, the flat back labret type. Pierces with a needle and her after care instructions are completely different to Claires. Keep them in for 10-12 weeks, no twisting required as the ear skin heals around the titanium and not to the earring and she doesn't sell you any 'healing' lotion, she just recommended washing them well in the shower and cleaning with a cotton bud if needed. The earrings have a long bar on them so the earring can be moved backwards and forwards when giving them a little clean.
Will definitely only use a piercing place for any future piercings.
