Where do adults go to have their ears pierced?

Or anyone for that matter? The only place I now of locally is Claire's and I understand that's not recommended.

Can you even have your ears pierced atm, actually?

I had mine done in an independent jewellers shop when I was a teenager, but I don't think those kinds of places do it anymore? I took my earrings out when DC were babies and pulling at them and never put them back in. 20 years later the holes are well and truly healed, although you can still see where they were, and I have a new, sharp, short haircut that's crying out for some statement earrings.

Where do you go?

@NotMyCat

And yes to tattoo shop/piercer We had a fab one nearby, I had my lip pierced there. She would say big breath in, and out, and as you breathed out she would do the piercing. Barely hurt
Barely hurt??!

I nearly passed out when I had my lip pierced! 🤣

inappropriateraspberry · 14/07/2021 20:31

I had mine done at a jewellers (long time ago), check if any local to you do them.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 14/07/2021 20:31

Needles also hurt a lot less than a gun as they cause less tissue trauma than the comparatively dull spike at the back of an earring!

Are you in London? I’ve been to Astrid & Miyu several times for piercings and always had a great experience (no guns, always a single use needle).

APurpleSquirrel · 14/07/2021 20:46

I had mine repierced a few years back; went to a proper piercing studio which do lots of different types. Was absolutely fine - guy managed to use the existing holes.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 14/07/2021 20:48

Most of our local hairdressers do it where l live and charge average of £20

OverByYer · 14/07/2021 20:49

Piercing studio. I went to one in the local market. Looked a bit intimidating but they knew their stuff. Did the top of my ear with a needle rather than a gun. Was painless

NotMyCat · 14/07/2021 21:08

@MidnightSilence Grin honestly she has the magic touch, I even went back for another lip piercing and I'm a complete wimp. She does all the hypnotherapy breathing stuff and says stuff like "a little bit of pressure"
No wonder she was overrun for piercings, all the parents took their kids there too

LeanneBrownsLonelyBraincell · 14/07/2021 21:14

I always go to a place that just does piercing. They don't hurt me and that's why I like them (and keep going back)

LuxOlente · 14/07/2021 21:17

The tattoo parlours I go to are as clean and stylish as a salon. They have to be, but there's plenty of female-run ones who make the place absolutely pristine. Go to one of those if you feel uncomfortable.

They use the correct kind of needle.

gospelsinger · 14/07/2021 22:06

accessorise

TheVanguardSix · 14/07/2021 22:08

Superdrug! I had all 3 of mine repierced (is that a word?) and DD’s done there as well.
The standards are high. Very professional and hygienic. No infections for us.

NothingIsWrong · 14/07/2021 22:13

I'm taking my 13yo to a proper piercer next week to get hers done with a needle rather than a gun. £35 compared to £10 at Claire's, but deffo worth getting it done properly in my opinion

theliverpoolone · 14/07/2021 22:14

My dd had hers done in the jewellers, F Hinds.

VienneseWhirligig · 14/07/2021 22:17

I had mine done at Blue Banana. They were really good.

AndWhatNext · 14/07/2021 22:18

I went to a tattoo parlour a few years ago. It was so clean and super friendly. Spent ages cleaning before I went in.
She used a needle.
Healed well.

MrJsBs · 14/07/2021 22:21

DO NOT get them done with a gun.
I knew I should have gone to a proper piercer when I got my second lobe piercings last year, but instead I let a beautician with a gun do them because I'm a fool.
They're still not properly healed and it's been 11 months.

Mykittensmittens · 14/07/2021 22:22

If you’re re-piercing then please look for someone who will do this with a needle method as so many have mentioned.

I have 9 ear piercings, two of which are re-do’s from long ago. You run a greater risk of granuloma using a gun in an existing piercing area - it’s nasty lumpy scarring that can’t be undone. With a needle it’s all far more precise.

Plus most piercers will use flat backed titanium piercings which are designed for better healing and can be left in situ longer.

Book an appt, buy some saline spray ready, take some ibuprofen before you go, DON’T TOUCH or twist when it’s done and you’ll be fine.

Go for it.

MoiraRoseForPresident · 14/07/2021 22:31

Don't go to Claire's. Or anywhere that uses a piercing gun.

Go to a proper piercing studio.

I have 12 piercings in my ears, both side of my nostrils and a Medusa piercing in my lip. Also had a my belly done but no longer wear the jewellery.

Go to a professional piercer with years upon years of experience. Not some teenager working weekends in retail.

Dixiechickonhols · 14/07/2021 22:34

I was in my 40s and had my ears pierced not long ago at a jewellers FH Hinds. Was professional and totally painless.

Dixiechickonhols · 14/07/2021 22:37

It was free at F Hinds if you bought earrings. Wasn’t a gun. Daughter had hers done there too.

HereticFanjo · 14/07/2021 22:45

Are people anti-gun only for re-piercings? Just wondering. I went to a proper piercing studio to get my nose done years back and they used a gun. It was painless and I've been thinking of getting it redone.

QueenofLouisiana · 14/07/2021 22:57

I also use a tattoo and piercing parlour. Far few problems than the holes done with a gun in the past.
There is a lack of flowy white drapes or beauty-place detailing but always very clean and professional. They choose the right needle and shape of ear-ring (curves, straight, hoop). Also good aftercare.

Chainson · 14/07/2021 22:59

You don't need a tattoo shop, you need a piercer. They do often work within tattoo shops but tattoo artists are for tattoos and piercers are for piercing. If you have a local piercer (whether they work from the tattoo shop or are both) you do some research and look at their website, Google reviews, etc. If you don't like the shop or they don't have good reviews I'd recommend travelling to one that does or not having it done. Claires piercing is a fucking abomination and anyone who knows anything about piercing would have the whole lot shut down immediately given half the chance. Imagine rocking up to your doctor for a vaccine or blood test and watching them rip off the needle they used for a previous patient but going right ahead and putting a new needle on the syringe, would you be happy with that? A gun cannot be sterilised and it's a similar concept, except that it's not a needle used but the earring that should stay in until it's healed!

CatchThatCat · 14/07/2021 23:05

I wish I’d known about needles versus guns when I was a teen as mine were itchy and uncomfy for a while.
DD has hers done recently in a piercing studio and it didn’t hurt much and a week later they still haven’t hurt or given any bother whatsoever, she says doesn’t feel it. I hope it stays that way ! We pour a bit of sea salt /water on every day as advised to (half a teaspoon of sea salt to one mug water)
