How has Mumsnet ruined you?

Sat down to watch some Netflix with DP.

I asked him : "What are you watching?"

He replied: "It's called Mind of Aaron Hernandez"

Cue me spluttering with laughter because all I can think about is "Good afternoon, I'm Angela Hernandez". "No, I"M Angela Hernandez" Grin

Given that the documentary is about some quite gruesome murders, DP was.... bemused, to say the least.

What has Mumsnet ruined for you?

What will you never look at / hear in the same way again?

@Crepescular

It's opened my eyes to how utterly petty and shallow most women are and made me understand why some men hold the female sex in utter contempt.
And yet here you are...

Mumsnet has ruined me in that there's always a good bun fight to be witnessed. You just don't get that in RL...

Crepescular · 10/07/2021 17:43

Well, sad to say but it's my duty to try to save some of you from your materialistic, empty, knee-jerk existences...

Cavalierqueen · 10/07/2021 17:44

Not I the spirit but I was abused by a man who hated the Middle East and hunted me down to a point my life could have been at risk

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 10/07/2021 17:47

Relationships. So many horrific stories on here I cant bring myself to go out with a man again.

SandysMam · 10/07/2021 17:49

Having a normal family income and financial situation. I used to think it was fine but now realise not being mortgage free at 30, having a million in both savings and the pension pot and a good grasp on stocks and shares ISA’s is in fact, completely irresponsible Grin

Really? So you think it is completely understandable that men kill women at the rate of six every hour? That one in three women will be abused by men in their lifetimes? That every nine minutes a woman is raped? You think that's understandable because sometimes individual women can be 'shallow'?

Men as a group are socialised and trained to see women as inferior. They are raised with entitlement to women's bodies through exposure to pornography and exploitation of women's labour and being able to buy women...There is NOTHING women do that provokes men to rape, abuse and kill them at the rate they do. It is MEN'S problem.

So kindly take your victim blaming and shove it where the sun don't shine.

Pampas grass

O told the headteacher I work for, who was telling me he'd got a hot tub, that he actually had a sex pond GrinGrinGrin

Chunkymenrock · 10/07/2021 20:19

I seem to strip and launder my bedding more often than I would have without Mumsnet!

Chunkymenrock · 10/07/2021 20:50

Also, the naked mole rat association!

I do agree to a point, but some people on here are truly consciousness raising (well tbh mostly in the past). It's not a patch on how it used to be. That goes for most of the Internet though.

I don't think there are as many working class people on here as there used to be, although I remember a post from someone who lived in a fucking mansion arguing that money didn't make life easier because they still had losses happen. That was pretty fucking galling Hmm

Duckypoohs · 10/07/2021 21:57

I'd also amend it to most people are petty and shallow. Men are the most shallow creatures on the face of the earth. Most won't even be civil to you if the don't consider you fuck able.

Kanaloa · 10/07/2021 22:01

I feel quite furtive when I scrub my toilet with the brush. I almost feel like if I look around I will see the mumsnet council leader (who I imagine looks quite a lot like Gail from Corrie) shaking her head in abject disgust at me.

Well I definitely need saving.

What's the criteria I need to meet to be one of the some?

UnlimitedChipsAndSalsa · 10/07/2021 22:12

[quote Strawberryshitfest]It’s made me a lot more aware of quite petty things that no one in the real world actually cares about. I used to walk my dog across literally 20m of private woodland to avoid walking on a busy windy road with no pavement. It’s not near a house or any crops yet if I walk through there now (

JustMeG · 10/07/2021 22:15

This^

Also, the last bean in the can ? I've paid for that bean !

Also, I've got a toilet brush and I'm not ashamed to admit it or use it.

ToffeeNotCoffee · 10/07/2021 22:29

Fat balls for the birds will be forever known as artisan scotch eggs in our house.

I'll never forget this !

OhGiveUp · 11/07/2021 09:32

Due to breaking every MN rule, I have no rights to existence in a civilised society, so I will take myself off to live solo in the deepest, darkest Amazonia jungle and sing Kumbaya with the monkeys.

Cazzovuoi · 11/07/2021 09:40

I peaked here. And it also made me realise how many women are utterly blind to the danger we are in all in the spirit of “being kind” to the menz feelz.

CigarsofthePharoahs · 11/07/2021 09:49

Can't see a lemon drizzle cake without thinking "Well that one doesn't look like a dog's trodden on it."
Stunt pineapples.

YY to feminism. Lots of stuff that hadn't occured to me. I am endeavouring to bring my boys up with many of the issues raised in mind.

dementedma · 11/07/2021 09:55

The obsession with cleaning. Constantly horrified at the amounts of bleach and wipes people use.

Whatwouldscullydo · 11/07/2021 10:08

At first glance it may appear MN ruined alot if things fir me.

In reality it's forced me to wake the hell up. I realised how little I gave a shit about myself and how as a result I put up with things I shouldn't and how my standards for relationships were far to low as I didn't think I deserved better.

I cant say I'm "cured" it will be on going the feminism board has helped me alot. Even if its forced me to think of some situations I've been in , in a way that is difficult to accept for me.

It also woke me up to the biggest threat in years women have ever faced. I am forever grateful fir that. If single...

It ruined breakfast cereal for me though. Now I have to cook most mornings Grin
