School closed until September.

That’s it for us. Everything was normal Thursday morning. It all started to go pear shaped Thursday afternoon. Friday the school was half closed. We were told earlier today that after a sudden flood of confirmed covid cases, the school is now closing fully. We won’t be reopening until September

The government don't give a stuff about schools,so long as the NHS isn't overwhelmed and death rates are down, they are happy. I feel really sorry for children who's education is being fucked up.

WaverleyPirate · 03/07/2021 23:44

I know of a couple of young teachers who have not had the first one yet.

They won't give them the booster and they will carry on saying schools are fine.

Bagamoyo1 · 03/07/2021 23:44

And actually I don’t see the evidence that it spreads more in schools than anywhere else. It just spreads more in kids because they’re not vaccinated. And also they’re the largest group of the population who are doing regular lateral flow tests.

Why haven’t they had their first jab? There are many hubs offering vaccines without appointment.
WaverleyPirate · 03/07/2021 23:45

School staff weren’t left unprotected. Kids have worn masks since schools reopened in March. And anyone over 18 could have been vaccinated weeks ago.

Masks have gone.
Appointments are booked way ahead.

And stopped wearing them when?!

No testing in primary either.

WaverleyPirate · 03/07/2021 23:47

Appointments are booked for first available slot. Quite soon, but it will take until the end of term for protection to kick in.

It's no way near being overwhelmed now, the isolations are ridiculous now.
WaverleyPirate · 03/07/2021 23:48

Masks are definitely not being worn in local schools.

Bagamoyo1 · 03/07/2021 23:48

I can’t believe we’re back here again, saying that teachers are all dying and the kids are killing them, due to their selfish desire to have an education. Have we really not learned anything? Vaccines are available for over 18s. And teachers are not over represented in the death stats. Never have been, despite the unions assertion that they would.

Well they are in my DC’s school, and all the schools my friends kids go to.
WaverleyPirate · 03/07/2021 23:50

Nobody is saying that. They are simply pointing out that some teachers have not had vaccines so will get sick and have to be off work.

WaverleyPirate · 03/07/2021 23:51

It's up to the local authority and heads. None are around here as they are following government guidance which is no masks atm.

stressfuljune · 03/07/2021 23:51

All school staff should have been jabbed early imo. In Manchester you can get jabs in loads of places inc supermarket car parks. But people need to do it.

BanditoShipman · 03/07/2021 23:51

@Loveatortie

I'm in the Midlands, our school sent out a message today that the school will be closing until September due to a huge spike in cases. Absolutely nothing reported in the news. On line learning for the last weeks of term😣
Can you say whereabouts in Midlands?
stressfuljune · 03/07/2021 23:52

Thats walk in jab places. Loads of them

Has your school closed multiple times, @0None0? I'm sure I remember you posting about this before.

Bagamoyo1 · 03/07/2021 23:55

I think that any adult who hasn’t had their first jab has either chosen not to, or they have a medical contraindication, or they can’t be bothered with the hassle of driving a distance and waiting around.
There’s a huge amount of vaccine apathy still. When I was calling people to book appointments back in February, lots of people were reluctant to put themselves out at all.

WaverleyPirate · 03/07/2021 23:55

What if people aren’t testing. I don’t know anyone testing their kids right now. How does this get handled.

It's voluntary so there is nothing the school can do.

@Bagamoyo1 maybe we are protecting the teachers and support staff? Who are still getting sick.

BustopherPonsonbyJones · 04/07/2021 00:06

@Bagamoyo1
Let’s plan ahead and make sure that teachers receive the booster jabs so that schools can stay open (as teachers being sick mean closed schools). I think most schools are hastily RESUMING mask wearing when the delta variant strikes. Yet again, we shut the stable door after the horse has bolted.

Bagamoyo1 · 04/07/2021 00:09

They should get vaccinated then.
