Do you know of anyone who had a separate life away from their family?
Background: DW and a friend reminiscing about a friend who recently died.
Let me call her Diana was from a County family, genuine public Service obligations. Lovely family. Diana was widowed in her late 20s with children. Did not remarry, concentrated on her children and working in family business, from part time 'odd jobs' to becoming active accountant and director. My knowledge of this part of her life is limited. DW knew her from school. Malvern.

Some years ago after a successful business meeting 150 miles away I was taken to a restaurant, the host suggested we join another group. They were a mixed group, a bit boisterous. Among them was a flashy type of bloke and his gf, she was dressed a bit showy. She was introduced as 'Trixie'.
Flashman and she were the life and soul of the party.

We did not say that we knew each other and I told no one. I have still not told my wife, I have to admit she is a bit of a gossip.
Diana's usual style was twinset and pearls, Liberty Scarves, everything tailored.
I started writing this to ask if you or any of your friends had a separate life like the above. I was going on to ask about second set of clothes and venues away from the usual humdrum. It has got a bit serious perhaps cathartic, me talking about a friend we have lost. I will leave it stand and see if you comment.

@BigRedBoat, not posh, darling, privileged.

yourestandingonmyneck · 18/06/2021 19:54

@SummerHouse

No, no, no. The 'host' is, I believe, the host of the group (fine business people, genuine work ethic, interests in Bakewell), not the restaurant staff (honest, hard-working, but not from County families.)

I have not read such a fabulous OP since the one where the wedding guest accidentally slept with the groom.

Ah, yes, I see that now. It was the host of the group.

Still a bit weird as presumably they didn't know this group, otherwise he could have asked one of them wtf the deal with "Trixie" was.

Also of note though; it wasn't just a business meeting 150 miles away. The business meeting was "successful".

AnoymousCoward · 18/06/2021 19:55

Ah, I saw the "background" bit now!!

Poor Diana's children- lost both their parents already Thanks

NEVERENDINGST0RY · 18/06/2021 19:58

my grandmother had a dear old friend in her 80s who sounds exactly like Diana. Split from her wealthy husband 30 years ago, never divorced and still very good friends. No children. She never had another boyfriend or husband and lived in the family home, financed by her ex. Ex still paid her "a living". She died recently (within last 2 months) and my grandmother has been helping friends sister clear out her belongings. The sister came across a...sex diary (for want of a better term). Graphic details of sexual encounters with men, all dated and descriptions of the men and where she met them. Different ones almost weekly, even in the recent years. Apparently it was very racy. They have no idea if its true or just fantasies she had.

@AnoymousCoward

Bli.ey, it's all a bit Sharon, isn't it? Or GabbyLoggon
As a Sharon can you just explain what this means?
chesirecat99 · 18/06/2021 20:03

Don't take it personally @deleteasappropriate!

Sharon was a poster who would start bizarre, nonsensical stories every once in a while. One was about her husband T-rexing in the supermarket IIRC. You may find some of her threads in classics.

medebourne · 18/06/2021 20:04

deleteasappropriate Sharon was somebody who used to post cryptically like this on MN(or she used to post about someone called Sharon- it's a long time ago!). Nothing against people called Sharon generally.

AnoymousCoward · 18/06/2021 20:06

@deleteasappropriate Sharon is an infamous MN thread starter!

It's not a slur (and a lovely name!)

WallaceinAnderland · 18/06/2021 20:07

Did Flashman look a bit like this?

Is this rare or even unusual
thisplaceisweird · 18/06/2021 20:08

Someone is writing a book and needs some inspiration huh???

MiddleClassProblem · 18/06/2021 20:15

@WallaceinAnderland

Did Flashman look a bit like this?
Woof!
Bumzoo · 18/06/2021 20:25

Is that you Camilla?

Miniestelle · 18/06/2021 20:30

I need to know more about this story! I'm new here, is the the OP likely to come back and divulge some more of the story? They can't just chuck this strangeness in the mix and then do one surely?

RonniePickering · 18/06/2021 20:32

They can't just chuck this strangeness in the mix and then do one surely?

Haha, regularly.

Miniestelle · 18/06/2021 20:32

I am imagine the OP stood in front of a magnificent mantelpiece with a pipe regaling us with this story. There must be more to tell...

nellly · 18/06/2021 20:44

@Toomanypickles

This is both rare and unusual.
GrinGrinGrin my thoughts exactly reading that op
AmyDudley · 18/06/2021 20:50

Who's on first base ?

deleteasappropriate · 18/06/2021 22:02

@chesirecat99 @medebourne @AnoymousCoward Thanks very much for the explanation! I shall now go and search out my namesakes WTF posts! :D

MustardRose · 18/06/2021 22:58

It's like the Mitfords all over again.

FadedRed · 18/06/2021 23:02

Can’t yer tell it’s a rainy Friday night and there’s nowt but bloody football on the telly…

Worriesome · 18/06/2021 23:04

Why couldn’t you write this more simply... why did you just make my brain hurt!?

MiddleClassProblem · 19/06/2021 00:12

Would Chaucer pedestrianise his parlance to sacrifice his art and integrity over commercial viability? I think not…

Away with you, you literal heathen!

FlowerArranger · 19/06/2021 00:19

So is Trixie dead too?

Perhaps. Blythe Spirit

HandforthParishCouncilClerk · 19/06/2021 00:25

@Miniestelle ‘county family with genuine public service obligations’ - perhaps she was a drug dealer running a county lines outfit…?!

SecondCityShark · 19/06/2021 00:32

Erm.

Yeah, I still have nothing.
