Minging question about cysts

I'm so grossed out and embarrassed to be writing this but I have a cyst on my shoulder about the size of a small grape. It doesn't bother me aesthetically since it's on my back.

For the past few months I've occasionally got whiff of a gross smell (like the smell of a piercing) when I turned my head. I couldn't understand it because I could sometimes smell it when I was freshly out the shower. Turns out the cyst gives off a gross smell when I'm hot. Sad I do have a SUPER sensitive nose and DP says he can't smell it at all (and I do think he'd tell me if could, he has form for being honest about embarrassing stuff) but I'm so embarrassed by it now and I don't want to get close to anyone. Sad

Has anyone had experience? NHS website says they don't remove them but my local private hospital says on average it's £450 to have it removed! Has anyone had one taken off on the NHS? It used to not bother me but now I hate it Sad

OP you seem to think that the fact it needs to be stabbed is a bad thing. It is most definitely a good thing. A necessary thing. A thing I’m willing to do if you pm your address.

@Flibbitygibbit

Where is Sporner Corner ? ( asking for a friend )
I linked to it earlier www.mumsnet.com/Talk/sporner_corner

I had one on my arm removed on the NHS when it started leaking, I watched them cut it out, it was very satisfying.

I had a cyst on my neck removed / treated by "Advanced Cosmetic Procedures (ACP) using Advanced Electrolysis Techniques" about 4 years ago. It's not refilled or needed treating again. I've had a couple of moles removed using the same process. Near me it is £75 for a treatment session. No idea if there is a limit on the size of cyst that can be treated this way, mine was probably pea sized but felt bigger to me! I was self conscious of it and felt so much better after treatment.

Love a good cyst. Watching Dr Pimple Popper is such satisfying entertainment!

Hope you get it sorted, OP.

I have a recurring cyst or boil on my side, under my bra strap. I tried to squeeze it and managed to get a fair amount out of multiple holes (which was smelly), but needed DP to squeeze out more because it was quite deep and I struggled with the angle. He had to use a towel for protection Grin

It hasn't come back since which, frankly, disappoints me.

DH had one (and yes, I did take photos and yes, I did post them).

It was a sebaceous cyst he’d had for years with an open pore. Never gave him any issues then one day he’d been in a hot car with his back against the seat for hours and it had really irritated it. It swelled up and instead of being hard, it went all mushy like the inside was breaking down.

I didn’t need to squeeze it - I wiped over it with an alcohol wipe and the damn thing exploded everywhere and yes - it stank of baby sick / cheese. Immediate docs, antibiotics, and I had to change dressings every day for a week as it drained out.

When the infection had gone the gp did a clinic for ‘minors’ and cut the sac part out and put a little stitch in. You’d never know it had been there now.

@HangingOver

Some of you are unbelievably weird Grin
We’re weird? You haven’t looked at cysts on you tube then?( I’d recommend dr Khalid Sadek.) We are legion! (Mwahahaha!)
AdaThorne · 14/06/2021 22:31

This is exactly what happened to me although I was pregnant with DS when it got large and started oozing so they couldn’t give me antibiotics or surgery for months. DH just had to keep draining it and covering it with dressing.

It was miserable at the time and the scar from cutting it out was big… I got a lovely tattoo to cover it when it was properly healed though which felt like a positive.

What is it with cysts today? Are people suddenly feeling lumpy?

I have just replied on this thread which may be of interest.

I had a sebaceous cyst on my head and it was bothering me when I brushed my hair. I had it removed on the NHS. It hurt once the local anaesthetic wore off but hasn't returned.

Nannyamc · 14/06/2021 23:16

Years ago I had one on my neck. My mam lanced it and cleaned it out. Put a bread poultice on it to draw it out. It was made of white bread and salt with hot water. The hotter the better. It never came back and no scar.

@LemonSwan

Aloe vera, like real aloe vera plant not some lotion.

Take the plant, slice the sharp spikey bit off the edge then slice it down the centre and peel it open like how you make a banana split. Then place it over the cyst - wrap in gauze and padding/ medical tape etc - whatever you can to force it in place. Then keep changing it until it draws it out. One day you will wake up and your whole shoulder will be dark sticky purple and you will think something terrible has happened. That is the end of the process lol.

😂

This is the strangest thread I’ve ever stumbled on. I feel disgusted yet weirdly fascinated and ashamed of my weird fascination

Im also a bit jealous I’ve never had a cyst.

I don’t know who I am anymore. Blush

OooPourUsACupLove · 15/06/2021 00:08

DH used to get a recurring one in his earlobe. Must have come up and burst at least 10 times over 5 years or so. We even posted pics online as early as the late 90s! If only we'd realised the market for sporn Grin Eventually the doctor took it out. DH said it looked just like a chickpea in tomato sauce Envy

Goshitstricky · 15/06/2021 00:17

I have one slap bang in the middle of my forehead. The GP has agreed today to remove it in the minor surgery clinic as it's growing and the last one I had like this (under my arm) eventually turned into an abscess and had to be removed as an emergency.

I now have to face life with a 3cm vertical scar instead of what my children lovingly refer to as my 'unicorn horn' 😅

LemonSwan · 15/06/2021 00:31

@3Britnee

Sounds hilarious but true story. I could live with the cyst, I couldnt live with the purple. I thought I was dying so I went to A&E. Nurse was perplexed at the situation but seriously impressed. Once she managed to remove the immovable purple, she said perfect job, better than they could have done in surgery.

3Britnee · 15/06/2021 06:03

@LemonSwan It was just your 'end of the process lol' made me proper laugh. It sounds awful.
